This marvellous lady was my shorthand teacher at university! Her passion and ability really shines through her in teaching. It truly was a delight and a privilege to have been taught by her! ♥️
I just wanna say a massive thank you for doing this channel. I am studying teeline at uni and have really struggled to build speed without any teaching during lockdown. This is a great help!
One thing I have discovered which might be of use to others. When I first started to attempt speed (shorthand) my hand used to tighten-up and become very stiff. Having too many other things to think about I didn't give the fact any consideration but one day, I don't know exactly when (I was probably soaking in the bath), it occurred to me that if my hand was too tight it must affect my speed. So, I determined to try to hold the pen lightly instead of holding it as if it was a hammer. It's taken some time but now my hold is definitely lighter and I am certain that it has upped my speed.
Thank you very much for this comment. I am pleased you have addressed this issue. Writing style does indeed affect speed. Gripping the pen, for example, often means less flexibility in the wrist, and the tension can extend to the shoulder. The writer tires quicker. Also, if writing on a desk, leaning forward can equate to pressing on to the paper, which in turn feels like roller skates on concrete - as opposed to the relaxed writer - gliding on ice. Of course all tension is decreased with growing confidence. Growing confidence is increased by regular practice. Really well done on your progress and thank you once again for sharing your writing tip.
I learned teeline 35 years ago and loved it. Used it in my work as a production assistant at the BBC and for minuting meetings throughout my career and even just for taking messages on the phone. It's always stuck with me. But I saw your tutorial and it was amazing how many of the short forms I didn't know!!! Very interesting.
I've just got up off the floor....I actually took down passage 1/1 at 120 WPM! Of course it's taken about 120 attempts! and I don't think there is anyway I could keep that up for 2 minutes without oxygen cylinders and amphetamines.
This way of taking dictations seems optimal for increasing one's speed, you take a dictation, you mark the words that could have been shortened, and take the dictation again at a higher speed using the shortened words and also building muscle memory
The Theory and Principles videos are mini lessons in their own right, and as such work as stand-alone lessons. For example the First and Second half of the alphabet correspond with Beginners Lessons 1 and 2, but the “R” intersection is quite advanced and is not covered in the Beginners Series at all.
Wow, this brings back so many memories. I remember learning Teeline shorthand 30yrs ago, I still remember the complete alphabet and many words! We had an amazing tutor, just like yourself! Is shorthand still a requested skill these days?
My fastest student reached 160wpm. NCTJ regard 100wpm as Gold Standard, and examine up to 120wpm. The fastest speed for someone who has written Teeline is 200wpm according to a Google search.

Thank you Maya. I felt very privileged to be there, teaching you.

Happy to help!
A brilliant lesson here gives a clear & comprehensive outline of teeline. Really enjoyable. Well done ladies keep up the good work!
Thank you for your feedback. Much appreciated.

Hi Sam, I'm so glad you enjoyed the new tricks!
An excellent lesson: well presented, concise and enjoyable. More, please.
Another one going on today Garry.
Thoroughly enjoyed this lesson and the way the full passage was broken down to help with word groupings. Would encourage more lesson please.
Thank you Linda.

You did it! You wrote shorthand at 120wpm. Congratulations. That is a significant achievement and you should be very proud of yourself.

Great lessons. Such a big help 👍
So pleased you are enjoying the lessons Joe.
I don't believe it!!! I just got passage 1/1 down at 100 WPM!!!!!!! A few weeks ago I couldn't get it down at 60! Ladies...look what you've done!!
Brilliant! Really well done.
Excellent. Thank you, ladies. More please if pos-able 🙂
Yes, having positive responses encourages us to add more. There will be another one on later today Colin.
Does this work with the lesson 1 video, or is it with the first five lesson video's

Absolutely fabulous ladies ! ❤️❤️X
Thank you Jackie.

Most definitely. www.nctj.com/journalism-qualifications/shorthand-teeline
Thanks a ton for these lessons!
Glad you like them!
This is fabulous! Thank you.
Glad you are enjoying the video Sharon. There will be one per week in this series. Another going on today.
What is maximum speed we can reach with teeline shorthand?

Madam, is achieving 120 wpm in 4 months is achievable by learning teeline?
That will depend how many hours you are working each day. It would certainly be achievable in four months, but you would need to practise every day.
What a gorgeous lady she is !!
Very helpful
Glad you found it useful Will. Keep watching.
Very good
Thank you.
