For the corn field that yielded 170 bu/ac without fertilizer applied how long has that particular field been in a regenerative system with cover crops and no tillage? Removing all the fertilizers at once when the soil biology isn't ready would be detrimental to the cash crop success but was curious how long it takes to be at that point.
try compost extract to jump start the soil biology if you can get it on the seeds too that’s great cover crops provide a habitat for the mycorrhizal fungi that colonize the roots and are basically like an extension to the roots the problem with too much chemical fertilizer in the soil is that the roots will reject colonization by mycorrhizal fungi
you could try those expensive mycorrhizae produce but i think the cover crops would give you multiple benefits in soil health too so i feel like that would give you better roi

another place where you can save big on input costs and soil health is tillage you don’t have to go completely no till though strip till works too
