Tupai Whakarongo Wananga was the younger brother of Ruawharo, Cheif gaurdian of the ancient Ture, Whakapapa and deity of te tangata maori. Te Matorohanga is a descendant of Tupai and therefore had the acquired the story of what is been narrated here. Nga Puhi and Ngati Kahungunu share similarities in history, even with Te Ao maori.
