Найджел, отдельное спасибо за Смоленск. Я там жил и учился с 1949 по 1953 годы. Многие здания 30 годов были разрушены врагом во время войны. Узнал Стадион, ул. Советскую.
..... и я благодарю вас, Михаил за ваш визит и интерес к моим видео. Смоленск - прекрасный город. Я был там, коротко, в 2009 году. Разрушение города было большой трагедией во время войны .... Найджел

Могу только сказать, что Смоленск в 30-е строился с размахом.. По зданиям сужу. Его нынешние "однокашники" (Калуга, Брянск) были помельче.. Слышал, что в конце 20-х Смоленск планировали. чуть ли, не столицей Белоруссии сделать... Может по-этому?
Он был столицей неделю)

When I saw these photographs, I was struck by their stark lines and uncompromising plainness. Yet, in their own way, they have a certain appeal so I chose the music by Sviridov as it seemed to mirror these facades..... Have a good day! Hugs and kisses! Nigel

The buildings generally, are quite plain, and quite a contrast from some of the other cities you have showcased Nigel :D Very interesting to view though!!! It's good to see a variety! I hope you have an enjoyable week!!! Cheers, Len :)
These are stark, uncompromising buildings set in the attractive and historic city of Smolensk. They are typical of their age from the Constructivist movement and, although there are no grands designs here, as in similar buildings in Leningrad and Moscow, for me this is their appeal. I for one, seen a bit of 1960s looking architecture so maybe years ahead or at least as good as any other place at that time... the frozen field with sugar coats of frost near the end reminds me of late November. Thanks for the art Nigel.

Страшные здания, бараки многоэтажные серые и тёмные. Красивого ничего нет и на душе плохо. Спасибо за фотографии, за правдивость видов.

И костёл перестроили в церковь
По этим улицам в детстве и юности ходила, а чаще бегала моя мама. Оттуда она ушла на фронт.
Пришла Советская власть, да как давай город достраивать.
То-то дело царская Россия.

What? No churches, the architectural marvels of Russia, in Smolensk, in 1930? All were destroyed by the bolsheviks, bezboshniki??
This is just a showcase of the new buildings in Smolensk constructed in the 1930s. As in most towns and cities in Russia, the Bolsheviks closed or destroyed a number of churches in Smolensk. Most destruction of the city occurred during the Nazi occupation when 93% of the city was destroyed.....
