I have installed Dream subversion 1021 on my 8-year old Acer laptop running Ubuntu Mate 18.04 LTS Linux together with pulseaudio Virtual Sink, following on-line guide by "One Transistor". I have just received Radio Kuwait on 15110 @ 1300GMT with near perfect decoding ( 20dB s/n ratio ). I use Dream together with the GQRX Linux SDR App and an Airspy Mini dongle. The antenna is a RA0SMS Miniwhip (e-bay kit) mounted 5 metres above my garden shed at my location 12 miles north of Bournemouth in Southern England.

I managed to see the display of the carriers once, but heard no audio. After that, I never even saw the carriers. Many weeks later, I gave up and consigned the whole lot to the junk box. Far too much faffing around to try to hear a handful of radio stations. Returned to AM and SSB and never looked back. Maybe this video will help... Thanks. 🙂👍
Milan Karakas DMR is a digital mode mainly used in the commercial sector on VHF and UHF, however over the past few years it has been adopted in the Han radio community and it’s a pretty good mode :)

Where is QT? Sourceforge just gives other software with "Q" or "T" in the metadata. The qt.io site is useless, it wanted to download gigs of unnecessary files with the silly installer. I gave up. Didn't the developer of Dream bother to list the actual QT files needed? After a long time searching and emailing DRM organisation, I completely gave up. Matt, what QT did you install, what files? I can use any platform OS.

The reason why I don't get into this, when I should, is that it's very hard to set up, and you have to have training from someone who knows what they are doing. I don't have that connection yet, not even on Facebook groups. Also get this, the Spark DRM transmitter software is a trial only, and through special request and the duration of the software is up to 30 minutes, and it's not open sourced like the Dream receiver software, and you have to be super rich, own a company to be able to afford the full version of the DRM Spark Transmitter software. So there are 2 reasons why DRM is getting difficult, and if it's open sourced, why can't we get it on our ATS Arduino based software defined receivers? I just don't get this. Spark transmission DRM software is closed-sourced trial software, DRM receiver software is semi-closed sourced due to requiring set up and plugin, and Version 2.2 does not work, but Version 2.1 does works fine, but the .dll files for audio decoding are required. Most short wave, LW, MW stations are not using it that much except mostly in India on SW and MW.
Does DRM capable of simultaneously broadcasting with analog (like the HD-Radio in the U.S.A.) so that people with analog-only receivers can still listen to the program?

Hey Beau, the AAC decoder is just a drop in file, you should be able to find it on the internet, I think I linked it in the video. DRM stations broadcast quite a wide and solid bandwidth, should be easy to spot, but I don’t think they are 24/7 and it also depends on band conditions.

Is it possible to connect the audio from a Yaesu amateur radio transceiver to a laptop and use this software to decode?
You can use your soundcard if it can reach 192khz

No, it's a different tech. I it uses modulation similar to DAB radio. There is no analogue signal.

I'd expect it to be at least better quality, but the bit rates are so low the upgrade is negligible
