Is it only me or Eminems songs are just getting deeper as we grow older. Like I never realized how deep this song is.
Very true Bro, this song just get deeper and deeper as the years pass by
It’s pretty clear in the lyrics and video.
What do you mean??!!!!!
Nice work
Right!
This video hits so much harder knowing that Proof actually died like that
Eminem, undeniably an icon of rap, continues to influence and shape the landscape of the genre to this day. His unmatched storytelling ability, visceral lyrics, and magnetic stage presence have defined modern rap. His legacy is unquestionable, and his impact is felt in every beat, every verse, and every line he drops.
Perfectly said 👑💪

The most influential rapper in history crossed the divide between black and white.
I'm here after the Drake Vs KDot beef, Drake mentioned Kdots family. Made me think of this song, "There used to be a time when you could just say a rhyme and Wouldn't have to worry about one of your people dyin'
But now it's elevated, 'cause once you put someone's kids in it
The shit gets escalated, it ain't just words no more, is it?
It's a different ballgame, you callin' names, and you ain't just rappin"
Yup thats why J.Cole dropped out he knew this shit was going to happen and once you mess with family is personal isnt rap battle anymore is whole war, them 2 mfs kdot and Drake going to end up killing eachother
Literally exactly the same thing. I’ve been enjoying the whole beef between the two and the disses are all killer but I do honestly feel like it escalated to an extreme point that I didn’t expect. At the time of me writing this, drakes house has been shot up and while some people say Kendrick won and Drakes giving up…I feel like it’s just getting started
@@luisalamilla1386 when J Cole apologized, I was kind of mad bc I wanted him to have a friendly but competitive competition with K dot. However in retrospect, I think J Cole was right and I feel like he saw the writing on the wall of how things were gonna go

May 30th. But still
June 3
Just get a calendar
[Intro]
Step by step, heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down
[Hook]
Step by step, heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down like toy soldiers
Bit by bit, torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers
[Verse 1]
I'm supposed to be the soldier
Who never blows his composure
Even though I hold the weight of the whole world on my shoulders, I ain't never supposed to show it
My crew ain't supposed to know it
Even if it means going toe to toe with a Benzino
It don't matter
I'd never drag them in battles that I can handle
'Less I absolutely have to, I'm supposed to set an example
I need to be the leader, my crew looks for me to guide 'em
If some shit ever does pop off, I'm supposed to be beside 'em
That Ja shit, I tried to squash it
It was too late to stop it
There's a certain line you just don't cross, and he crossed it
I heard him say Hailie's name on a song
And I just lost it it was crazy
The shit went way beyond some Jay Z and Nas shit
And even though the battle is won, I feel like we lost it
I spent so much energy on it, honestly I'm exhausted
And I'm so caught in it
I almost feel I'm the one who caused it
This ain't what I'm in hip hop for, it's not why I got in it
That was never my object, for someone to get killed
Why would I want to destroy something I helped build?
It wasn't my intentions, my intentions were good
I went through my whole career
Without ever mentioning
And that was just outta respect, for not running my mouth
And talking about something that I knew nothing about
Plus Dre told me stay out, this just wasn't my beef
So I did, I just fell back, watched and gritted my teeth
While he's all over TV
Down-talking the man who literally saved my life
Like, fuck it, I understand
This is business, and this shit just isn't none of my business
I'm still knowing this shit could pop off at any minute, ‘cause…
[Hook]
Step by step, heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down like toy soldiers
Bit by bit, torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers
[Verse 2]
There used to be a time when you could just say a rhyme and
Wouldn't have to worry about one of your people dyin'
But now it's elevated
‘Cause once you put someone's kids in it
The shit gets escalated it ain't just words no more, is it?
It's a different ball game
You call names and you ain't just rappin'
We actually tried to stop the 50 and Ja beef from happenin'
Me and Dre had sat with him
Kicked it and had a chat with him
And asked him not to start it, he wasn't gonna go after him
Until Ja started yappin' in magazines how he stabbed him
Fuck it, "50, smash him! Mash him and let him have it!"
Meanwhile my attention's pulled in another direction
Some receptionist at the Source
Who answers phones at his desk
Has an erection for me and thinks that I'll be his resurrection
Tries to blow the dust off his mic and make a new record
But now he's fucked the game up, ‘cause one of the ways I came up, was through that publication
The same one that made me famous
Now the owner of it has got a grudge against me for nothin'?
Well, fuck it, that mothafucka could get it too, fuck him then!
But I'm so busy being pissed off, I don't stop to think
That we just inherited 50's beef with Murder Inc
And he's inherited mine, which is fine
Ain't like either of us mind
We still have soldiers that's on the front line
That's willing to die for us as soon as we give the orders
Never to extort us, strictly to show they support us
And maybe shout 'em out in a rap or up in the chorus
To show 'em we love 'em back
And let them know how important it is
To have Runyon Avenue soldiers up in our corners
Their loyalty to us is worth more than any award is
But I ain't tryin' to have none of my people hurt or murdered
It ain't worth it, I can't think of a perfecter way to word it
Than to just say that I love y'all too much to see the verdict
I'll walk away from it all 'fore I let it go any further
But don't get it twisted, it's not a plea that I'm coppin'
I'm just willing to be the bigger man if y'all can quit poppin'
Off at your jaws, well, then I can
‘Cause frankly I'm sick of talkin'. I'm not going to let someone else's coffin rest on my conscience, ‘cause…
[Hook]
Step by step, heart to heart
Left, right, left
We all fall down like toy soldiers
Bit by bit, torn apart

why did he suicide? couldnt anyone help?
@Insane player he had been talking to me a lot about the problems he was going through, I knew something was up but didn't know what so I pushed him to go to the doctors. He went, and got diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, and was put on an 8 week waiting list for proper help. When he told me that I just thought "well I've done my bit" and never bothered to reach out to him again or check he was ok.
A few weeks later his step dad found hin dangling from a rope, he was stiff and grey.
And I have to live with the fact that if I had bothered to support him - like a mate should, his step dad wouldn't have had to try and give CPR to him despite his stiffness. I was 17 years old, and through sheer negligence I put my mate in the ground. I doubt I'll ever forgive myself for that

Mgk shoulda listened to this before dissing em
I know, right? I actually by accident got back, and listened to these lyrics while at it, and it totally changed my wishes, well, somewhat changed. Because at first I thanked for Em' to wake up and do his thing, be rough with people, but then, I heard this, and I realized, it's not what he wants to be honest, he wasn't for it in hip-hop, but some people cross the line like Benzino and Ja Rule, like in this song it is being described, that he was so much into it, that he forgot what his goal was, and when he realized it, he made this last song which placed end to their battles at that moment, and Ja Rule with Benzino realized it too ( I think, I am not sure), and that's why this song was the last one that basically placed the end to their feuds and reasons for those diss battles.
This is actually quite touching, Em' was told to stand off, but he got triggered and he joined battle himself, and he won it basically, something 50 and Dre couldn't do, or took too long to finish it.
MGK needs to listen to this again and understand, that what he did with his latest comeback disses, was wrong, by placing Heilie, okey, screw Kim, but I think Em' will come back hard, I hope so actually. One side wants for Em' and MGK to throw back and forth diss tracks, for the old time sake of rap/hio-hop, and because Em' hasn't put out anything great for a decade, but the other side, after listening to this, understands that it's not what I want, because it would be against Em' wishes. Purely out of respect, but then again, I wish Em' would put out something hard, unpolished, something that isn't pop dance background thing.
BIOSHOCKFOXX facts bro, em’s gonna have to come back tho he’s really gonna go back to the old him
Like I said, I really wish it from one side, we miss that part of Em', we, as listeners, and defenders of someone who fought his way through in the times (not in my time, I was just born in 94, so I was only with the 2000's Em's stuff) when he struggled, we deserve the luxury of having the Slim Shady, the evil side of Em', like it was back in the day, since Em' has been all good, but with bad products for this last decade, until now. And understanding where Em is coming from, but we still deserve, or I think we deserve, to have something that isn't pop style. I just want him to understand what fans want, because we made him, Dre as well, but mostly without fans, without us, he wouldn't be where he is.

Me
my kid was watching The Simpsons, of all things, and the intro song started playing. I was like WAIT. I KNOW THAT TUNE.
We can go toe to toe or we can just let it be, I will wait for you, and even if you don't I will come for you like a toy soldier. Bring back the old Eminem.
Storytelling at its best.
This is another level of poetry.
Eminem deserves a Nobel prize
Agreed! I said that when Kendrick Lamar received one... well deserved for him, but past due for Eminem.
You mean a Grammy right
Yh predicted the future.
I think a Pulitzer is what they meant
TRUE
I didn't come here, to copy someone's comment.
I didn't come here, to complain about something useless.
I came here, for Eminem.
Our true Legend.
Stfu
Yeah definitely not like anything anyone else commented
I didnt come here to read ur comment. But I did that right

Reloaded Music I’m here for proof
Em is awesome. I really like him and his kind soul. But his pain is hard to watch through the years. I hope he find peace. ❤
i can relate to this song, to mockingbird, when I'm gone, lose yourself so much they remind me of my childhood and all my teenage years when they were intense.. every time i listen to these songs my eyes are filled with tears.. hopefully I'll be able to provide a better family for my kids if I ever have one..
He had so much shit going on at this time it's amazing he was able to make a song like this
its so true he had something in him to be able to make a song in such a hard time
what was happening at that time.
+strongarm 5 he was on lots of sleeping pills and he had a few beefs going on
This was his response to all the shit..his way of pulling himself out of the beefs so he could deal with his personal stuff
+Kittens GWT very true

Timeless masterpiece 🔥
“Why would I destroy something I helped build”. Them lyrics hit me hard
True words 👍🏾
Kai Wildey don’t know how oand you are but trust me, the older you get, other lyrics will hit harder.
Omg I read this as that part came on lol
Yeah why does he?
@CJCashMoneyIMVU no, you are spot on. By his actions and concentrating on hayley having a good life, he never concentrated on his friends and thats why proof was in the bar that night. He has build a house of cards on the blood of others, like everyone that does, it will backfire on him. Thats not a theory, thats just nature. But yeah, illuminaty is kind of to make these artists look like victims... he made his decisions. He wasnt lead.
All these young rappers dying, this song hits differently now. These kids should hear this song and learn a lesson.
It is too relevant 16 years later
DAMN!
Yeah, rappers still get shot but overdosing is the new high. People still get killed but a lot of the time they’re killing their self now.
@@edward9232 that’s true but that’s a different conversation. Cuz it’s not just rappers. It’s people everywhere. I actually just lost a friend to an overdose. But when I typed this comment, king von had just been killed by someone from Quando Rondo’s crew in an act of self defense. That’s why I say these young rappers should go back and listen to this song. Especially watch the video so they may see how Eminem pretty much prophesied Proof’s death.
Would anyone like a tissue? Do-rag, perhaps?

Handsome Jack said "he's in a better place mate I've been there". I was asking if he'd been in that 'better place' before
