Jeep Dash Removal

  • We are removing the dash from this jeep to fix a common problem on Jeep Grand Cherokees. The problem is that the recirculation door breaks and falls down on top of the blower motor causing the blower motor not to be able to blow any air out of the vents. We show the broken parts and where they are located in this video.

these guys are excellent. They make the task seem timely, informative and practical as opposed to paying the mechanics about $1500 for a job that you can do in your home garage on your leizure.

I'm cursing a heater core in a 2000 Jeep GC right now, but I didn't evac the a/c. A little more of a pain in the butt, but there's no extra cost. I split the heater box and left the a/c evaporator and the top portion the of heater box in the vehicle while I removed the bottom, it has to be hosed out anyway because there's coolant in all the little pockets in the air box. I also found a broken blend door.

I'd pay extra to watch my repair guy do this, or any repair. Like if when I pay at the end I get an email with a link to a private youtube video of my car getting fixed in 10x speed.

Our 2005 GC makes a buzzing noise when we run the blower motor on high about 3 years ago the blend doors went out I paid a guy $450 to fix it. I had to bring it back to him 3 times he wasn't happy each time I did because he knew how much work it was to pull the dash. About a year later I noticed the dash wasn't even put in correctly one side has a bigger gap in it. I figured now that the blower is giving us problems we will get the dash put back in correctly. Great American product.

Wow - you both rock!! This video was very informative. Can't believe the work involved in doing this. All I can say is Chrysler ... they don't exactly build quality stuff.
Wondered what you charge for this - looks like it's a lot of hard, meticulous work.

@fedorov5549 We did not change the Heater core and Evaporator core because the customer did not want the extra expense, the Heater cores do not fail that much here in GA. The Evap. core do fail but they are expensive. Sorry we are not very close to Wisconsin we are in GA

Thanks, and I agree this repair is far too common. As far as how long it takes with filming and setting up everything it takes much longer than if we just did it without worrying about camera angles and lighting and such. Ashley and I can do these in about half a day.

This is why I traded my 99 Grand Cherokee in. Jeep and Dodge from 99 to 04 just had way too many issues like this. This job would have cost me over $1000. And this happened to me on a vehicle that was only 4 years old! But it was just outside of the factory warranty. I also had cam sensor go out and 2 window regulators and 1 door actuator. My Nissan had 0 issues in over 8 years. I think and hope that American cars are better now. My 14 Durango has the Mopar MaxCare lifetime unlimited mileage warranty.

@fetymann There is no cabin air filter on this year cherokee you can add an aftermarket one if you want. This is ridiculous I agree supposedly the new ones are more robust we have yet to have any replacements break and we have done over 100 of these jobs.

i would like to see a video on how to recalibrate the climate control head to the blend door actuator for the 03-04 KJ. I have found only one website where a tech posted directions from a dealer service manual. And there is nothing about calibration procedures in this video or anywhere else on youtube for any model of Jeep with electronic blend door. It is very important that the control head is calibrated before use, you simply wont get any heat or it will break the blend door linkage.

Great video, guys, of a repair that is all too common on the WJ model Jeeps! How many hours did the job take the two of you to complete? Love my 2002 Grand Cherokee Overland, except for the poorly designed parts on the HVAC system. Chrysler should have done better and stood behind their work on this HVAC system.

The purpose of our videos is to show people how much work goes into certain repairs and why they end up costing so much money. Customers often do not realize how labor intensive these jobs are and what all must be done to complete the repair. Our videos are not meant to be used as instructional guides to complete jobs on your own. A job this large should not be attempted by anyone who doesn't know exactly what they're doing.

Sounds like you need to get a manual or check other videos that do step by step removal as this one was geared toward the blend door. I have a question, is it possible to access the blend door motor (near the firewall) without pulling the heater core? I pulled this last year in about 2 hours (Without breaking things) and now it appears one of the motors is bad. I do believe it's the one under the glove box, but haven't had time to look. Basically I have hot air on passenger side with A/C on.

The air flows out of all the vents except the front ones on my 1997 jeep wrangler. What is an estimate that your company would give me on the price to just take off my dash and find out the problem? it looks like it would cost a customer hundreds of dollars just to have a dealership do this and locate the problem.

  • @CooperLakeAutomotive
    @CooperLakeAutomotive  14 років тому +1

@Beemrr These videos are just for us to show our work we are not trying to diagnose other people's problems through here I can guess all day what is wrong but without looking at the vehicle it would be just that a guess and I could totally be wrong and cost you a bunch of money. I do not believe this helps anyone.

Many thanks for such a informative video.
To answer leopold klop, this is the results of the corporate mindset and primary function, return maximum profits to investors, PERIOD!
Good businesses were and are built by REAL business people who are concerned about their product or service being top notch, pleasing their customers, and appreciating their workers. Actually earning and building a good reputation and name. Since the early eighties the Wall Street crowd has been on the express route to destroying good businesses in the U.S.A. Investment funds, hedge funds, takeover cowboys, etc., etc., have been buying out and taking over once great companies and running them into the ground, bleeding the maximum profit out of them. Build it as cheap as they can with junk parts made overseas with cheap slave labor. Cut cost's, cut cost's, cut cost's., Quality? Out he door! Jobs and wages? Out the door! Like this video shows, turn what should be a simple and easy operation into an over complicated, time consuming (even though the video was edited to 9:10), labor intensive (two people), expensive job, that they figure or hoped the customer would bring back to one of their dealerships. A simple easy access door could have been put in place for heater core removal. The flapper doors could be made decently instead of being cheap plastic junk, and access to them could be made more sensible. Making the job easier and sensible helps the mechanic as well, especially if they're swamped with other jobs, they can get it in and get it out and move on to the next project. BUT, corporations don't care about making things right, pleasing their customers, treating their workers right or any of that stuff, just maximum return to their investors, especially their big investors who might not even be U.S. citizens. Of course to anyone who is reading this and not a U.S. citizen or living in the U.S.A., you could care less, but just realize the same thing is happening where you live, and if it isn't in full force yet, it will be.

I own jeep cars since I bought my first 1993 Wrangler. Now I own a Grand Cherokee. These cars give me a great feeling while driving and I really like them. This is so, until I have to repair something that should be normally easy to fix by a simple do-it-yourself work. Things are so bad designed that it appears to be a-use-a-while-and-throw-away car. Some friends of mine have Honda CRVs for example. Much easier to repair ant they don´t break so often. Two different worlds I know. But bad design.
