Non avevo mai ascoltato quest'opera. E' veramente molto particolare e ricca di musica piacevolissima. Sensazionali Inva Mula e Charles Workman, insieme a tutti gli altri interpreti. 🤩💯💯
Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! A happy ending for all. I know Carmen and Les pecheurs de perles, but never looked at the other operas of Bizet. A wonderful discovery. Thanks for posting!
This opera is new to me and I found it really lovely, especially the singing by tenor Charles Workman....just gorgeous! There's something in listening to French opera that's so rich and lush. I'm going to be watching this one a lot!
I was born & brought up in Perth & this is the first time I have heard this opera in full. Very beautiful but only one word is out of place. Surely the duel would have been fought on the banks of the River Tay, not the Tweed.
Aida, Boheme and Carmen have been called the A, B, Cs of opera. If you are a beginner at opera or you have very limited experience with the form, those three are the ones you are most likely to know. In college (many years ago) I used to get free tickets to all kinds of shows. I saw Liza Minelli in Flora the Red Menace, and Lotte Lenya in Cabaret. The first opera I got free tickets to was Moses and Aaron. The music for that goes right over my head!
1:05:25 What a beautifull serenade !! In Japan, this song is known as " Chiisana konomi " with Japanese lyrics. I listen the original version for the first time.
Thoroughly enjoyable. The singing and casting were excellent. I enjoyed the costumes and wigs. I thought the libretto was well-constructed, though I assume it must have seemed a bit slightly Bellini-Donizetti-Sir Walter Scott, old-fashioned, when it was first presented. The music was a bit hit and miss: from the absolutely gorgeous to the more workmanlike. The ending, I thought, was surprisingly moving. I was very glad you posted this; and it certainly is an Opera that I'd like to see again, from time to time. I recently heard Bizet's IVAN IV, and already love Pearl Fishers, Carmen. I would like to hear the others, now. French Opera is really special.

Catherine regains herself, swoons in the arms of Smith, and revives believing that it was all a dream, and all prepare for a joyous St Valentine's Day.
L'interprétation" la voix d'un amant fidèle" peut rappeler...celle par Alain Vanzo en duo avec Mady Mesplé dans Don Procopio, le premier opéra de Georges Bizet écrit à 20 ans...

One of the finest operas I've ever seen and heard.
Божественная музыка. Как несправедливо, что Жорж Бизе умер так рано - 36 лет. Величайший композитор.

What a gem (apart from the duet from The Pearl Fishers") this comes in 2nd to Bizet's Carmen - so light and comical.

This is very listenable, but it's not Carmen.
It's not La jolie fille de Perth either !
