The idea that people who like to use social media will be failures and people who read will be succesfull is very degrading in my opinion. Thw world isn't square as that, it is spherical for a reason. That way, we have infinite ways to look at it.
As someone who has done both for a while, I can say that social media tires the brain a lot. It disconnects you from life, causes headache, makes you lazy... Considering the results, it cannot be said to be very beneficial. Of course, this does not directly mean that you will fail, it just has too many disadvantages.

In today's society, where the majority of the world's population is of average intellect, it is entirely possible that someone who has never read a book can become successfull because they identify with the masses.
