Great video! I tried to share with management some of my reports using Power BI in Teams. Unfortunately, not all end users have PBI Pro. Key decision makers did not really jump on the idea of submitting a PBI Pro system access request to our IT Team. Even though I showed them the report's dynamic capabilities, I sensed reluctance due to the inconvenience. Sometimes key decision makers want a static (PDF/PPT) report, which I use often with PBI's export selection. This may require you to change your visuals. It's not wrong, just need to know your audience! :)
I was confronted by my Command Sergeant Major regarding the use of Power BI to gain insights on our networking devices' health status amongst other information to brief in our meetings and naturally I became curious as to how this will work. I will be looking into leveraging this app for that purpose as well as putting this app in our teams' app for collaboration. Thanks for the info.
Would love to be able to have teams chat work with the app on the same page though. Often when we discuss a power bi for a monthly review we want to take notes on action items which we have to do in OneNote today or offline somehow. If we could easily collaborate in the same screen dynamically and team could timestamp the comments or use notes within the single pane of glass that would be an immensely powerful experience.
Hi Bill! There is no additional licensing for what was shown here above normal Power BI licensing, except for normal Microsoft Teams - which is included in most Microsoft 365 plans.
@@DanielGlenn thanks Dan. By normal bi licence, do you mean Pro licenses for all users? In my experience this collaborative report/app review is kept behind the paywall of a minimum of pro licensing. No respite for the free users 🥲
@@BillScriven correct William, 'normal licensing' for Power BI generally means "if sharing is happening, you must pay". That's my way of saying it anyways. Check out Microsoft's Power BI pricing page for more info!
"Would love to be able to have teams chat work with the app on the same page though" Exactly my thinking - to have the Power BI, then a 'Pane' (like with the Filter pane) with the Chats, and another 'Pane' with Actions. To get that complete Process that Drives to Shift. That would be bananas-tree.
Can you share power bi in ms teams meeting like power point live? So intead of traditional screenshare where they can ssee what I present while they can click on the links etc
Thanks for the video. I have a question , in case I wold like to make the tab of channel private for just a few members of the channel, is that posible? Thank you!
How is this access to reports physically provided? This is direct access to the report(can i see it in report manage permission tab)?. If a user leaves a channel, will that access be removed automatically?
Hello if I have noting in the Power Bi window to be able to select leadership this is due to what’s , permission teams setup, power Bi version ??? Thanks for sharing all your good points
@@przemekkoska83 they can see all data. But you can see the same report in 2 different ways…. 1 - troughs groups in teams where the report is attached ( as I could see, the RLS works well) 2 - trough power bi app( at the left side of teams) and In this option the same report does not work with rls
@@TheGascarin Thanks! I think I understand what you are saying here. I'll need to do some experimentation to make sure I understand the proper deployment to maintain RLS.
Typical issue in the early days of Teams was that Tabs (for example browser) did not 'inherit' the identity of the logged in user. This sounds similar...
Great video.. just wanted to check one thing.. What if my data is changing on weekly basis and I want to refresh the report with new data. In Power BI dashboard, I can see the data source (excel) and update it regularly. However, I cannot find similar functionality in the Power BI app + teams. Any suggestion on it?
QUESTION TO THE GUYS --- how about POWER BI for Report Server? I have PBI on premise, and not on source.. any solution / collaboration via TEAMs pls? thx.. Cherian in Abu Dhabi
Hey Adam, great video.. I have a technical question if you don't mind me annoying you... is there a way to connect the video's progression (Frame or which second it is at) with my data? For example.. lets say the report is about a building being constructed from start till finish, and in power bi I have a chart of dates (X) and completion % (Y) that mirrors that... then I have a video simulation of the building being built, and I want to connect the progression of the video with the progression of the chart somehow.. Can you advise me on that?
I'm surprised that you didn't mention anything around the Metrics in pbi online and how they interact with Teams. Maybe you did this in a different video and forgot to give the plug for it.
Hi wildfotoz! This video wasn't meant to be fully comprehensive on how Teams and Power BI can interact. :) That would be a longer video and Patrick would have found out we were in his cube by then! 😀 It is a good suggestion IMO though!
What's really "Bananas" is that at 1:18 they show one of the worst possible example of Power BI report and call it "wonderful". Gauges and awful slicer that literally take half the screen to show 6 numbers in 2023 (more than decade after PBI launched). How about (at the very list) making a matrix as functional as Pivot Table in Excel to be able to produce half-decent financial reports? How about having layers on map to combine pins and heatmap? How about making slicers customizable? That would be wonderful. Sorry, not impressed.
Hey, look that's me on the screen! 😀 Loved doing this video with Adam (in Patrick's cube 🤣)
It seems as though everyone is breaking into Patrick's house to hang in his cube! 🤣
@@jameswar12 I did just walk in - no lie. He really should lock his door. BUT then we wouldn't have this great video! 😀
OMG! This is awesome! Now my question is: Do the people that are connected to Teams/PowerBI have to have a PowerBI account?
It's frustrating this isn't clarified more often in these types of videos.

Could you please suggest if there is a way we could get failure notifications to Microsoft teams when refresh fails .. thanks

Am I able to do the Apps tool on teams groups as a PowerBi premium user but no fabric admin capabilities? Thanks
a very good contribution, thank you very much
The dashboard in my teams show units in mill instead M. May it be for spanish lenguage? Is there any solution?
Great tid bit of new release information.
There was no mention of licence requirements for all this to work smoothly though.

How to edit source data which has been added manually
What if I have a landing page in the app with hyperlinks? How will it handle it inside Teams?

Thanks for the Teams update. I'm sure I know the answer but, does the Power BI app in Teams respect RLS?
The big problem, which I’m deal with, is that power bi app in teams does not “respect” any RLS rules.
Same rule is working alright in power bi online
What does it mean? Report consumers can see everything regardless of the RLS or does it throw any error on the visuals?

Apps looks great for big orgs. What's the usual way of collaborating with Power BI for small orgs and startups?
What license should I have to make this connection? Thks for the video it was amazing 🎉

Is my organization using this? That's a hard no. I'm trying, it's a head wind

I did not know apps in Power BI existed (except for the Power Apps visual) 🤯
The issue with Power BI in Teams is that bookmarks and filters selections are not persistent.
this integration has been around for a long time. IMHO, it is of little use in practice. much more practical integration with PowerPoint
incremental progress
