The New Ford Capri Is A Joke!

  • If you're a Brit, you'll know and love the Ford Capri. It's also very likely that someone in your family has owned one in the past, or some other fast Ford. As weird as it may sound, the Fast Ford is just as integral to British car culture as it is to American car culture. The European division of Ford has made so many truely great cars, like the Mondeo, Focus, Fiesta, Sierra, Sierra Cosworth, Escort, Escort Cosworth and of course the Ford Capri.
    However, Ford has decided to tarnish the sacred Capri name as another boring platform sharing electric crossover/SUV.
    Why has Ford done this? Let's talk about that!

    Not just just a British Icon it was also very beloved here in Germany…
    I don‘t get it why do they try to incite nostalgia but still sell a damn crossover. Hyundai and Polestar have shown that boxy retrofuturistic shapes are possible. But no, ford wanted to bring yet another crossover to the market because we apparently still don’t have enough of them…

      They want to make you forget about their history. Younger people are now getting into senior positions in these manufactures, who couldn’t care less about the brand’s heritage.
      It’s not really about nostalgia, but rather replacing the past with something far worse.

    It's incredible how quickly car design language has converged across the industry since 2018ish - I can barely tell car marques apart nowadays.
    That Capri design could be a Renault, Kia, Hyundai, Peugeot, Vauxhall or Mercedes without looking out of place in any of their ranges. It's as if they're all using the same AI image generator and every model year the output gets more and more homogenous.

      The only people who buy cars brand new these days are company car buyers (i.e. tax dodgers) and boomers. But because they're the ones spending money at dealerships, they're the only people that manufacturers listen to.

      It is true that they use similar programs/computers to design the cars. When they need to maximize drag efficiency, aerodynamics etc while still being within the regulatory framework there is very little room for creativity these days. Not to mention manufacturers borrow assets from others and you end up with extremely similar cars. So dull.

    I heavily disagree. As a car enthusiast, all of them are equally shameful: the "Puma", the "Mustang" and the "Capri". Give companies an inch on crap like this, and they will take a whole mile; in fact, they already have.
    With that being said, I used to be pissed off at the Mustang thing until I realized I shouldn't be giving a damn. If companies themselves have no love for their own models, why should I? Ford sure doesn't.
    Oh, you forgot to mention that the Capri's just a rebadged Volkswagen, which adds the second finger to the two-finger salute they're blessing us with. Lovely.

    • @HowToSpec
      @HowToSpec  7 днів тому

      The mindset of not caring, whilst I understand, is what makes them do this in the first place.
      Not caring about anything from the past will always be a bad idea. The fall of patriotism, the decline of love for old cars, the decline of love for preservation will forever be the downfall of everything once great about this world.

    • @thearousedeunuch
      @thearousedeunuch 5 днів тому

      @@HowToSpec I disagree. They did the "Mustang" thing because they knew boomers and enthusiasts would hate on it. The more they hate on it, the more non-car people are aware it exists and buy it. It worked like a charm, accidentally or otherwise.
      Car companies are just that: companies, who don't care about any name, as long as it makes them money. Neither should we; we should care only about the cars themselves, the products of engineers' love and work. The only way to show appreciation for that is to buy new cars.
      This has nothing to do with the loss of love for preservation of old things or patriotism. Those are completely different concepts.

    I understand Ford: the times are changing. Back when Capri was popular, coupes were cooler than SUV's. You were considered rich with coupe cars: they meant status. But now SUV's (and crossovers) are considered to be a sign of luxury, comfort, practicality and off-road capability. It sounds just as foolish as it is because it's a lie people try to believe when explaining their choice of crossovers to sedans, hatchbacks etc. It's weird but true. I myself think that the bigger the vehicle, the harsher suspension is, therefore the driving comfort feels like riding a wooden carriage in the early 1900's. If we think deeper, the first vehicle is sort of suv'ish. So we're going back to the roots at this point.
