I became a Stress Management Life Coach because of things I've heard from clients who were in my chair. As beauty professionals we frequently have access to information that our clients would not normally share, and often our clients become "family."
One doesn't need to be a mental health professional or a social worker to provide good information to those whose well-being may be in danger. If you're not sure what words to use, ask yourself, "How would a kind and caring friend broach this subject?"
Respect the client's privacy and back off they ask you to, but giving them a hotline phone number and being available to listen is the least we can do if we feel one of our beloved clients is in danger.

I am so happy NYS is doing this. I’d like to have more information on not just adults but children and the disabled as well. I feel that more times than not in the salon, I have seen more red flag situations with children, than I have adults.

Not really - if violence is suspected in any walk of life, we all have a right to be a voice.

It depends on the demographics, in the suburbs where people discuss private business there may be a portal to speak, but in a huge city clients do not discuss personal information, I know as a professional myself, if you dare intrude Or ask any questions you run the risk of losing the client. That’s what healthcare professionals and therapists are for

You can inform them of options for help and direct them to professionals. That's exactly what the video suggests.

I’m sooo happy for this video. As a Cosmetologist our clients trust and confide in us, so having another way to get the message across is extremely helpful.

I'm a NYS Licensed Cosmetologist, Actress, former NYPD Officer & I'd like to get more involved - how can I be a part of the educational, preventative, or post-help (videos or other)?

I would really love if we could have something a bit less obvious. A lot of women hide their domestic violence well and so do their abuser. Abuse victims don't really open up right away like this right away, or even give such big signals. I feel like there should be maybe classes or something on how to help people since we really are with people a lot.

Some abusers come looking for those who help the abused. Trying to come hurt those who where just trying to help. Some people are sick in the heads!

I love this video. It's time to stand up, make our people aware and educate them on these type of situations. There is help and there is hope. Thank you.
