Back in the 1950s all the way though the early 1980’s cherry hill was built right beside a large land fill. All of Baltimore city trash was taken to this landfill. Cherry hill was originally a area designated as an area for all of the inner city African Americans and African American world war 2 veterans to go and buy post -war houses .In the 1960’s the government decided to build public housing in this same are by the land fill. A large majority of the older neighborhoods in cherry hill were clean and beautiful. My grand parents have a house on terra-firma road and I can remember how clean and beautiful the neighborhood was in general. The Reagan era was especially hard on this community,on top of drug abuse lack of jobs, crime, and economic disparity. Such a shame…

Reagan and the government flooded the black community with crack and guns and actively pushed gang activity

My old stomping grounds. Projects are designed to keep people disempowered, without opportunities, and hope. Not hopeless but unhopeful is what Cornel West would say.

I miss Jack's. My family was one of the last wights families to live in Westport. From the 1920's- 2000's. On sadly st. John, Leo, dalian, and Leo Sri. I remember being a kid playing on the tracks. And fishing big carp under monroe st bridge

Hats the exact way I drove into cherry hill every time when I was an addict years ago. Ya know I may be lucky but as a white boy I never had any issues mostly people were nice course they knew I was there for drugs but really most people were cool

The houses where I lived have been demolished. Norfolk Street. The fence that separated us from the paint company was called the bowwow.

Suburban projects are the worst. Even fewer opportunities, services and resources than urban ones. Westport, Cherry Hill and Brooklyn are all rough af neighbourhoods and projects.

@@asherkaye4891 All the downtown projects get more people travelling in to buy drugs so have more crime but they have a lot more opportunities, resources and services because they're so much closer to down town. I'd prefer to live in McCulloh, Perkins etc. than Cherry Hill, Westport or Brooklyn tbh.

@@hc2155 hell yeah that’s true. But it’s pros and cons to both. I grew up around mcCulloh and Bruce Manor and now I work down CH and what I noticed is cherry hill got a stronger spirit of community. That’s why I like it down there actually.

People can get out of the projects, no one is concocting this evil plan to keep blacks stuck in the project. U gotta use your fucking brain for something other than a hat rack. A little hard work and motivation will go a long way. Only thing that keeps y'all stucknin projects is the mindset that it's someone else's fault.
