  • Philip McCarthy, United Kingdom, discusses the state of coronary physiology today with Philippe L’Allier, Canada. The results of the landmark studies DEFER, FAME and FAME II have all shown that using adjunctive physiology not only improves the outcome of intervention but also decreases stent usage, stops unnecessary stent deployment and increases contrast usage which makes us end up with a more refined technique.
However, despite the advantages to the interventionalist day-to-day, the process has been slow - McCarthy explains why, how this can change, and also discusses the future of the field.
