    I've done so many "combat" games that I'm really trying to steer away from it in SC. I've got an Argo RAFT and a MISC Prospector. That's it. If I participate in combat it won't be as a pilot but as a crewman. For the most part I just want to chill.

    After picking up ships here and there I finally melted all mine and got the entrepreneur pack. Mining and other logistics type gameplay are more my thing. Hopefully we see more of it in the future. My splurge on myself ship is the 400i. For fighting it’s the Gladius and Ion. I think my personal hangar is complete. Hopefully server meshing comes so you can utilize that Javelin properly. Needs a big crew!

      I bought a ship with money directly in-game, but I also bought a ship on eBay that was transferred to my account. Is it possible to "melt" both of those to use the combined funds to buy something bigger in-game? I'm just nervous about starting down the melting path only to discover that I can't complete the plan due to some sort of rules about what can be melted.

    • @andyandreson3989

      @@AndrewJens generally if the ship is in your hangar you can melt it and the money goes to store credit you can use for another ship. Any ship you purchase in game with aUEC you will not be able to do anything with. In game purchases are also subject to wipe at CIG’s discretion. Real world cash you keep even after wipe.

    I'm completely on the opposite direction: I don't buy anything I can't solo, even if I appreciate when someone comes along, and I mostly like small ships.
    I usually buy stuff that comes with a heavy discount so that I can upgrade it with a gain and I also like stuff that comes with good loaners that often double the usefulness at a given price
    I bought an Odyssey at the last UEA getting totally conned by some "irresponsible" comments from the developers and I instantly had buyer regrets as I learned what crap I had actually bought, so I melted it and bought back my 400i. May be I'll CCU to a 600i when the rework hits us but this time I won't listen to stupid PRs comments from CIG. I want to see the REAL stuff and then decide.
    I have a RAFT and another CCU to it (via Spartan) a Taurus (CCU to Corsair), a Cutty Red (CCU to Apollo), a Vulture (CCU to an SRV) to test the Gameplay on both, Caterpillar (which I deem much more flexible then the C2) and the 400i (CCU to a Redeemer). My free loans are a Prospector, an Arrow a Buccaneer a 325a and a Hornet which cover me for my combat needs.
    The ONLY ship I'd NEVER do without is my beloved LTI 125a (CCUed from the free Argo Cargo), by far the more practical and useful ship in the game bar none: since the wipe I think it earned me like 5.5M aUEC allowing me to buy a Warden, and the largest part of the Phoenix (Vip transport gameplay incoming) which I bought in game. I don't really need anything else despite having a couple of millions in game and about 200$ of store credits lying in stash.
    Big ships have no gameplay at the moment and, if and when they get one, I will have the luxury to chose on which one to play as there are more owners them then people to crew them on both sides of the law! 😁

      Hey Zumzifero! I don't agree with your choices (personal preference) but I do understand themand they make sense. I absolutley aim for solo play, I own both 400i and 600i, I have a banu merchant wainting to come out (locing the c2) and upgraded my carrack to odissey. so that's the road i'm fired to: exploration. I still have an Ion, but it's sniper days are probably over. very sad, i wanted to substiute my Eclipse with the Ion.
      BUT:
      Raft is interesting becaus of loading and unloading in the future, balistics need a rebalance and miners should get an upgrade to delay quantanium ore deterioation.
      basically I agree with you on taking a solo approach and could have done with less words.. sorry about that. Happy new year!

    • @Leptospirosi
      @Leptospirosi 2 роки тому +1

      @@nilsgerdes6747 If your focus is on exploration, the your choices can easily be different from mines and make a lot of sense. Probably we have a very different attitude versus CIG itself: in my case i lost a lit of faith in their goals as I feel they are much more focussed on delivery new expensive ships for the whales (myself included) then in providing a service to people that already dished out their money by fixing what is broken in what they bought.
      I tend to keep my feet in several shoes without committing too much on a single expensive one untill I really know it fits. That's the reason because most of my ship have an unapplied CCU in case I need to get rid of them or I want to try new game plays on the cheap.
      Medical fir example was a big hoax bringing literally nothing to the game except making the Cutlass red useless. I will be able now to either bid on that and shift to an Apollo or get rid of just the CCU and upgrade the Red to anything else for peanuts.
      Same with the Vulture: it gave me a prospector for free, but if I don't like the Salvaging gameplay I will switch to an SRV which will give me back the prospector and a allow me to test the next gameplay with containers.
      Unfortunately I have little faith in exploration in this game for the medium term future: the incoming star systems are too few and explored for centuries, while access to the frontier is not even at the horizon. Still a Carrack can haul stuff, a 600i can fight and a 400i can carry you around with some friend, but the Odyssey is just a glorified Freelancer Dur, with no tools except a hangar.
      Both the Carrack and the Odyssey will also be crew taxing, and their efficiency heavily depends on real human crews with very little use fir blades except for self defence

    • @nilsgerdes6747
      @nilsgerdes6747 2 роки тому

      @@Leptospirosi I agree. and here is my Rebuttal: everything will change over time. I want the merchantman for it's cargo space. I want the odyssey for mining and refining quantanium. I want the 400I as a shuttle between planets. The carrack was only for the lvl2 medbay, to respawn. It sucks that the cutlass red is nerfed.
      I do like mining though....
      this, all of what we are talking, is why i love te nomad so much. with it, you can do everything. low to middle tier (or how ever you define it), there is a lot to make with this vessel. and once you have about 500K you kann ferry a ROC around and mine money.
      this is why this game is great: we two don't agree entirely, but still get the same amount of fun from this game. this is awesome

      I wouldn't say the developers comments were irresponsible, I'd say they were his own opinion. If people decide to take that as the breath of God then that's honestly their fault lol... I'd rather CiG stay open with their opinions than close up like Ft Knox in N Korea. You just have to be wise on how and when to pull the trigger. They gave no Q&A for that ship until WAY later and they never used it's refining abilities as a major sell point. That alone told me it wasn't what it seemed. As for your approach with ship buying, I too disagree with you but can respect your view point. One thing I do want you guys to keep in mind is that the economy and in game ship cost should not be taken seriously... There will be a ton of ways to make money later on... tons... Guess what this means for ships? It means their prices will sky rocket in game. Now, for some they call this the gameplay grind journey and I'd agree. But it's not the only journey. Don't think the 890J will run you 32 million when the game goes live... It'll be closer to 500 million and that's probably still too low.... Everything will take a major hike to their sticker price. For some of us, buying the ship now is easy and not only an investment towards CiG but an investment towards our own entertainment. I own alot of huge ships. I'm alright with knowing their going to take some manpower to run. I'll enjoy walking my hangar and just..... Looking at them just as much as I will flying them eventually. And if we can rent them out... ho baby... bring in the bucks.

    • @citizeninja
      @citizeninja 2 роки тому +1

      be careful buying a CCU from a concept ship...don't be surprised if the Vulture's price goes up $10-$20 at release and temporarily nullifies your CCU to the SRV since the SRV will likely release afterwards (your Vulture-SRV CCU might become usable later if the SRV's price also goes up at its release, which it probably will). Anyone with CCUs from the Corsair might wonder how long it can stay cheaper than a Cutty Steel before it goes up and nullifies their $5 CCU to a $220 ship. Best to use price-stable ships for the 'from' ship in a CCU, and only use concept ships to end CCU chains since they usually go up in price.

    It's always interesting to hear someone elses views and motives that drove them to the fleet they currently own. I'm a bit lost with my current fleet as I realise I have way too many ships that kinda fill the same role and I have a hard time making a goddamn decision on what I want to go with. So right now I'll be keeping what I currently have and keep that discussion in a corner of my head and Ill probably melt a few ships by next citizencon and choose one ship per role/situation, as you did.
    But overall I feel like you highlighted the right questions one should ask himself when "building" his fleet. Be it the role, group of people you'll be playing with, schedule or the type of activities you'll be wanting to cover.

      I definitely feel your pain. My advice is to just ignore everything and stick with what you have. Who knows what the future will bring for this game? We're going on 10 years now with no end in sight, and new ships and sales happen constantly. There's no point in stressing too much now about what fleet you want to end up with in the far future.

    I have four ships myself... Two are all business while the other two are mostly just for fun. The first two are the Prospector and the Taurus. These I have so that whenever there is a wipe I can get right back to making money as quickly as possible. The Prospector I will never part with but I do trade the Freighter around as until recently I was using a Freelancer Max to run Quant. The other two are a 600i Exploration and a 125a. The 600i I expect to come into it's own later this year which will make it much more useful with the addition of a Medbay. The 125a I have purely for fun as it's a freaking blast to fly especially low over terrain. It also makes a pretty good daily runner as it's extremely cheap to operate.
    For now I am happy with these choices but I know like many times in the past I will end up swapping a few ships around again at some point in the future. The Prospector seems to be the only constant in my fleet although I have had the 600i for a while now with no plans on changing it as I love that ship. They would have to seriously botch the Gold Pass for me to give up this ship.

    • @Farrister

    Great video, as always, Sir! The Javelin is a scary choice...I would be concerned about how complete the ship will be when it's released for player use? You may be spending several months just outfitting the ship, before it ever leaves port? I guess getting all of the pieces to make it space worthy will make for a good quest, however? 👍

    • @Farrister
      @Farrister  2 роки тому +6

      Quite possibly! Although the current speculation seems to be it'll have enough on it to fly it, I'm prepared and comfortable with either scenario. It's there as a platform for a regular weekly event, so if the first few weeks of that are "we're working together to fit out the Javelin", that seems OK to me!

    Great fleet! Well, my so called fleet is spread across eight ships (this includes my game package ship). I started with a 100I which I immediately upgraded to a 135C. Not really a combat player, and when I do any combat it’s almost always with a group. So my two combat oriented ships are the Polaris and a F8C Lightning. Being an amateur astrophotographer it was impossible for me not to pick up an Endeavor along with an Odyssey to fulfill my science and deep exploration desires. However, I currently spend most of my time mining and moving cargo hence why I grabbed a Merchantman and a Galaxy. Lastly, to round out my industrial gameplay I bought a Crucible to get into repair once it is added to the verse. Looking at my fleet I am sure you will be shocked to find out my real life career started as an Electronic Engineer for 15 years, then past 20 years as a Software Engineer… go figure… :D lol

    All things considered, I'd never have guessed you were a Javelin captain. Quite a surprise, there!
    My fleet has three main functions. First, it's all about industry. I've chosen my fleet specifically so that I can, if need be, function as my own supply chain from raw material for finished products -- in particular, overclocked or upgraded ship components. Second, it's all about enabling. Most of my ships can fill support roles for other operations, or can help my friends accomplish their goals. Even my usual "solo" ships tend to be those that can be fun with an extra person or two along.

    That sure is a nice set of ships to cover some of the gameplayloops of SC. For my personal ships I tried to cover all of the gameplay loops that interest me, so my personal pledge Hangar looks like this:
    - Mercury Star Runner (its the ship I use as my daily driver due to its combination of speed, handling and cargo, it also has enough firepower to dable a bit into bounty missions)
    - Vanguard Warden (My goto Heavy Fighter for anything Combat related, as a bonus it also has a workable interieur for longer trips)
    - Starfarer (Its big, its beefy and I allways kinda liked the style of this one. Its my larger Cargohauler and, once that feature is in, will be the mobile Refinery for our Orgs Miningruns)
    - Reclaimer (well, thats the Moneymaker for my personal Fleet, it also works quite well for running group bounties with a few friends)
    - Odyssey (my selfsufficiant Explorer, Its basically a Bigger Freelancer DUR, so whats not to like here)
    - Argo RAFT (I liked the style of it, even though my MSR allready covers this gameplay niece but I want to see how it will work with the comming Cargorefactor)
    These ships are all CCUs I put onto the UEE Exploration pack, so they all have LTI.

If really cheap could choose either top tier combat ship or 300 hundred ish industry ship so when you grind your get 400-600 percent more money for time . Fun video Farrister, thank you for sharing your setup and logic behind it. While I did "join" SC back in 2014, I actually never played nor did any backing until 2020 Invictus Week. Your bounty/trade/raid model is great. I, on the other hand, lean towards industry. My fleet starts simple with a ROC & MAX combo, a Prospector, a Hercules C2 for planet-trade, Hull C for Inter-system trade, 325a for light bounty, Aurora for commuting. I do have the Corsair also.
    The game wipe from 3.15 let me experiment with "zero to hero". Sadly, ROC mining is messed up, but I hope that will not always be the case. Trade is still rough but works. Prospector mining tends to be the most dependable earner for me at this time. But when the game goes Gold, all bets will be off. We shall see.

    When I built my fleet I thought of two things. Money generation and progression in the game. There is a pretty big gap from an M2 to a Jav, specially understanding upkeep, insurance and operational costs of the largest capital ship.
    The way I understand it (and I might be wrong) you have money makers and money takers. As money makers you have all the industrial platforms for mining, trading, reclaiming. There are also service oriented ships that hold a more unstable value like: medical, exploration and data running.
    War ships in general are money takers, I know there is missions and you can run escort missions etc, but owning these ships will be mostly on the cost side.
    To take a Jav for a Spin, you need to have an trade or mining operation creating enough cashflow to support a Jav. And we are not talking a Hull C. I am talking about a fleet of the larger Hulls, Orions making money
    It is like owning an A10 and a Hercules... and you want to take a carrier for a spin.

      Those you mention as stable are should be as much subject to price change, due to overflood of good etc for traders, or too many mining the same material, etc etc. Compare to randomness of finding what you explore.
      The stable one would be killing stuff in solo flyable ships i think. You can see the income before you even start missions.

      @@UltraSuperDuperFreak a Terrapin will not go very far, you will depend on transport, Kraken, Liberator, Idris, Odyssey... etc. I say unstable because you depend on finding something and some secondary mechanic to transform it into UEC. So you find a new jump point, or a huge quantenium deposit, in order to capitalise it you will need data running or mining. Medical, you need to find patients... it is not as predictable as trading or mining.

I'm currently expecting my fleet will be an Endeavor, an MSR, and a Vulture - I'm hoping that'll give me several different gameplay options from day 1, and a bunch more when the Endeavor comes online. I'm still not sure that I've settled into things. I have a Starfarer, Archimedes Emerald, and Dragonfly. I like the Starfarer for a fleet/large operation ship. Lots of people like the "sexy" combat ships like the Idris, Polaris, and so on, but as I learned before the military and then it was hammered into my head during it, logistics are key to any successful operations. This means the Starfarer can get use in big fleet ops and while a number of people have them, they'll seldom not be needed, and it may be something not just everyone and their grandma has one to bring.
    The Starfarer can also get use solo or in small crew gameplay as a moderate cargo hauler or a massive scale fuel hauler. And I know at one time it was supposed to be able to REFINE fuel as well, though I have no idea if that's been changed or is still on the way. But if it is still on the way, that gives it yet another use for me to do when there aren't big org fleet operations happening.
    The Archimedes I got a special deal on, and the limited edition nature of it is kind of cool as well. It's my fun joyriding runabout to use. I would KILL for snubs to be given spline jump Quantum Drives and am frankly shocked the Merlin, Archimedes, and Argos don't have them at this point, considering the Pisces and 85x have been added to the game and have QDs, and Merlin/Archimedes aren't exactly powerhouses by comparison to the 85x and are weaker than the Pisces by far. Either way, I'll keep it for racing, flying about, etc. And for fleet ops, it can be useful for a super light fighter or for special mission ops like Caterpillar or Herc Merlin/Archimedes attack missions.
    The Dragonfly I upgraded a Ranger LTI to and I haven't decided if I plan to keep it or not. At the time, the only other ship I had was a Cutty Red, and wanted something I could carry inside it and use as a runabout (I didn't have the Archimedes yet, and they can't fit in Cutlass anyway), so the Dragonfly seemed like a good option. But now that I swapped the Red for the Starfarer and have the Archimedes, which CAN fit inside with a smidge of finagling, I'm not sure what I want that other slot to go to. I thought about a combat ship, but none fit in the SF, and I still have the Eve Online "moving day" mentality of "all my stuff needs to fit inside my other stuff in case I have to pack and move it all" that I can't quite shake. :) And none of the combat ships, not even the Arrow, fits in the SF.
    The Razor does, and has a stealth variant, but it's still pretty niche and I have the Archimedes if I want to race. I've heard the Pisces can park on the outer gantry (carefully) and ride in both quantum as well as store and recall with the SF, which is hilarious if true and would make the Medces a potential buy option so I have an ambulance, so I've thought of that. I considered a Roc, but I'd rather a ship that can mine since the Roc can only mine the by hand deposits, which...I can mine by hand in theory (and there always seem to be far less of those around). So I just haven't decided yet.
    And at some point, I'm sure they're going to rework the SF, so at that point I'll see what does and doesn't fit in it and probably make a final decision from there.

      @@Farrister Very very true.
      I did add a C8R to my list, just because it's what I've wanted since the Red was announced. It's much more like an irl ambulance. Having gone through EMT training and done my ride-alongs, I can appreciate that and it's just a hand little ship to have. :)
      I think for my part, it's mostly me looking at "thing I can use solo but that also has value if I do small group content with friends and also if I do large group content with my org"
      For all its bulk, the SF can be run by one person if all you're doing is moving cargo or fuel, as well as if you're in a fleet op with overwatch protection, or you can load it up with 3-5 people and some vehicles and go do some group content.
      The C8R makes a great box runner while also being useful for S&R in group content or bunker missions with friends (or solo)
      I think it's all about finding the right ships for you. A mainly solo player would probably get more use out of other ships, a mainly org player out of other ships, or someone who likes different roles (you might notice I don't really have combat or bounty hunting stuff here)
      But I think for what I'm going for, mostly peaceful activities or working with my org as an EMT and tanker, this should fit the bill nicely. :)
      Now...if they'll just get around to that SF interior rework so I don't have to spend 5 minutes working my way from the cargo bay to the bridge whenever I get into the thing...lol

    This seems like a good approach and is similar to my own, where I am considering my play styles and others I'd likely play with. Currently I only play with one friend consistently, so the ships we both tend to get can be operated by 2-3 at most, and with some solo-able options too in times when we are solo. Maybe we make or join a larger group later on...but I'm not really after capital-class ships personally I'd definitely work on one for some different gameplay. Another consideration is operating costs for multiple ships and what that will entail, I imagine it's gonna take a lot to maintain a Capital ship so you'd want an Org associated for that. My secound ship is Merchantman, simply because i liked its look , and i love trading in all other games. lol, i have absolute no clue about the ship otherwise. Just took a chance. Original idea was gas mining for income with a Starfarer. Bought ships back in 2013 already, and marchantman is a upgrade from a Starfarer, maybe 2015 ? i cant recall, didt'n cost much extra :)

    I like your fleet choices a lot, although to just have three purchases it quite restrained, clearly something I lack!
    I started off with the Avenger Titan and it remains in my fleet as a versatile, rapidly spawnable courier ship I still use regularly. I similarly bought the M2 and Inferno for precisely the reasons you selected both. However as a hedge I picked up the Caterpillar at a substantial discount, because I believe the tractor beam, docking ports and design may make it a far better choice when cargo refactoring arrives for rapid load and unload vs non specialists. For me, the M2 is more about military missions with friends as a vehicle hauler than cargo therefore.
    Otherwise I got a little carried away at Citizencon and picked up the 400i. I also picked up a Prospector so that I'll be able to access mining too from day 1 of the eventual game launch. Overall though I like the larger ships, but see me using those via joining an org rather than owning directly from the outset.
    Finally, agree with your point on armour regarding the M2. While it is not yet apparent, the difference vs the C2 should be very evident as this starts to become a thing on military grade ships.

    Definitely way more rational than my fleet lol I’ve got a couple of bigger ships nothing as big as the javelin. Let’s just say I love my single seat combat ships. The extent of the damage can be summed up with one letter and one number. My reasoning for having so many ships is mostly because I have a lot less time to play and I just want to get in and have fun and not have to spend what little time I have grinding out for months that one small fighter I want kind of thing. Though it would probably be way more fun to do it your way and only have the two ships to make money with the one ship to go hang out with people.

The ion just feels betrayed. really hoping it gets reversed and the AI improved (not flying directls twards you) because whats the point then? It's pointless, the ion. Give it a laser repeater, but not an inaccurate peashooter. I'll keep using eclipse for bounty..

      Well Happy New Year when it arrives! I have mixed feelings about the Ion changes - on the one hand not being able to one-shot other ships feels balanced, on the other hand, it's supposed to do big damage to big ships. I'd have preferred to see some sort of reduced damage when used against small ships (like if a real warship shoots at thin enough armour, it'll often "over-penetrate" and just go right through, doing little damage other than leaving a hole).

    • @nilsgerdes6747
      @nilsgerdes6747 2 роки тому +1

      @@Farrister That would also be one way to balance it. One-shooting everything was fun, but it really felt like cheating. Then again, the enemies just come straight at you, making a hit very possible. You wouldn't use a naval cannon to hit a flying airplane, but if it aligns with the muzzle you could hit it.
      You shuldn't be able to dogfight that easily with the ion, but now it has no purpose. Something will happen to rebalance it, I'm sure, it just feels wrong how they've taken the alpha down so much AND made the weapon inaccurate. It's wait and see

    Javilins are going to going to break you at the bank. The cost of fuel witll be in the hundreds of thousands just to leave the planet or station. Dose not even include any other cost such as ammo/supplies/etc. Essentially you will be down almost millions of credits if you fly the Javilin from Point A to Point B and were not transporting/doing a mission/looting.
    Best part is that cost dose not even include the insurance AND any add ons, including the turrets which were not part of the LTI if you bought it with it.
