Australium Ammo It would’ve been a terrible idea to release this on the NES. The game is meant for the pros who mastered the first one, NOT for people who just want to sit down and enjoy the game. It would’ve completely fucked up the trust Americans have for the series, and could’ve led to poor sales of the third one due to that lack of trust. It should’ve released as a spin-off title, like it did on the SNES.

I think the wind glitch trips that level out. It seems to have been too much for the 8bit system to handle, so that one part with the green bungee ends up missing. 😂 This is My favorite Mario game, though. I like it more than Mario 3, honestly!!!
Great vid man, I enjoyed it! I was a big NES Mario player back in the late 80's & early 90's. I only picked up super mario 2 lost levels perhaps about 10 years ago, but I found it hard and boring and never went back to it...... until recently.. Honestly I love it now, the skill and practice and patience required is insane... I've been playing mario over 25 years and the rush has come back!
Just beat this bad boy on the All-Stars + World version only with Luigi. All worlds from W-9 to A through D without using any warps. Damn it feels so satisfying.
Playing this on the Game & Watch with the infinite lives cheat is actually really fun. Once you figure out the quirks with this game and get past the weird design choices, it actually becomes quite fun to romp through. I'm quite proud to say I've learned to love SMB2.
@@Kambyday It only lets you continue from the beginning of the world. That means if you're stuggling on a specific level and game over, you have to replay other levels before you can even reattempt the one you got stuck on. Infinite lives make that a non-issue.

I managed to beat this game numerous times. Its thanks to this game why I can handle difficult mario maker levels. When I was younger I would just watch my cousins play the lost Mario and epay attention to every detail. When it came to this game I just used trial and error and I tried to not rage when playing, as being frustrated or angry makes you make silly mistakes, intern making you more mad
Playing through it for the first time, and I am enjoying it a lot. The difficulty makes it very interesting and engaging for me because I want to do better and I enjoy figuring things out. The level design is also very interesting and unique. Some of the levels feel like you're in someone's day dream when they're high as a kite. The game is full of surprises and I think it's great!

You can use the Castle theme in night mode to make flooded castles in Super Mario Maker 2. It’s the same thing in The Lost Levels, just without the night backdrop and using the underwater theme music instead of the Castle theme music.
The nes version that smb1 was made for got an upgrade shortly after it came out So for smb2(lost levels) they had more storage space They could've added new music and maybe even enemies from 1983 mario bros.

To unlock worlds A-D you have to complete the game 8 times using warps if you want, then on the menu you can press B to cycle through worlds until you see World A. If you want to play world 9 you have to complete every level without warps in a single playthrough, then the last four levels repeat over and over with only one life, when you die you get a thank you message and return to the start screen.
I got my 8 stars and I can’t figure out what button to hold to access world a. I’m playing it on switch and using a pro controller but nothing is working.

I actually really enjoy this game, the level design isn't as asshole-ish as most people make it out to be. There are plenty of 1ups throughout the game (much more than first game ) and they added a small secret that allows you to score a 1up whenever you touch the flag pole if you have a certain amount of coins. It's a pretty fun game until it gets extremely dickish and rng reliant ( world 8-3). There are also plenty of mushrooms scattered everywhere throughout every single level. The level design is very creative for its time and the game deserves more love imo. I do agree with you on the lakitus being fucking obnoxious, especially in 8-3, although the game is definitely not trial and error ( unless it's the maze castle levels ), you just gotta take your time with it since most people like to rush through levels once they gain momentum. You get really used to the wind after like 2 stages enduring it so it's generally a non issue. Definitely give this game a chance, it's extremely frustrating your first play through, but after you've beat it once and know how to get past the maze levels and know the general layout of the levels it's much more enjoyable. (Play the snes port tho)
I'm old enough to have played this on the All Stars compilation back in 1993. I spent several days slogging through this game until I beat it with no warps taken. I understood why this game stayed in Japan. PS: I now own a real Famicom Disk System with the real SMB2 disk. Because I hate my life.
