Any real photographer will tell you that the camera which produces the most accurate results is also the most preferable. You can always edit a photo to get a desired look, but you want to make sure that any image you're working with was accurate to begin with.
+Ry Perhaps the most preferable for a photographer but they aren't going to be using a cellphone camera. The vast majority of people just want their photos to look good when they take them.
Yeah nice try for pushing the iPhone there. But any "real" photographer, knows that smartphone cameras are a joke to begin with... Apple's products are not legitimate solutions for "real" or "professional" photographers - as much as I'm sure their consumer base pretends they are.
+Harrison Brady I think the closest I've seen a phone get to being like a DSLR is the LG G3,but to be honest that's based on the experience and not really on the photos. I dont wanna start a war here, but every photographer knows that even a shitty smartphone can take great pictures. It all depends on what u expect from it. i have seen so many phones with way more pixels than mine yet mine literally always look better. Like the colors are all weird and you can hardly see any detail (even though more pixels generally means more detail).
Javian Brown I find this so annoying as well, everyone keeps going on about how more MegaPixels is better but look at the Google Pixel. It only has 1 yet is an amazing camera
Thank you for making this *MKBHD*! There are way too many people that just think more megapixels means better camera. Smartphone cameras are getting a lot better, but due to restrictions of the sensor size in them, it will be forever before they can produce the same quality as a DSLR for example :)
Well, There's products like the Sony QX1 that have APSC DSLR like sensors and can be attached to your smartphone Via NFC, Only thing being they're expensive af. And man are you all over youtube :P, Be it Buzzfeed or MKBHD.
Sagar Mahapatra That's the price you pay for new technology unfortunately, but there's also the added bulk, which goes against one of the big advantages of smartphone cameras is their portability. +T.E.D. de Medici Hey, I found an upside to the smudges. It can give photos a cool lens flare effect and you can manually adjust the angle of the flare by manually smudging the lens with your finger. They kind of look like anamorphic lens flares.
+JustinianXLIII It'll be his standard opinion on 1080p displays with some opinion on certain things in 4K. I'm interested to see how reviews pan out with it considering it's 1080p 100% of the time unless it's viewing a 4K video shot from the camera or if an app is updated to allow it. Screenshots are also taken in 1080p
I think at 1:30 you are wrong. The ligh absorbent does not depend at all in the number of pixels, but the surface actually does. The same light enters the lens whether it has 16 or 4 MP, as long as they cover the same surface (have the same aperture)
I prefer the camera that capture as color-close as possible as the real object. Whether I want it warmer, more exposure, etc, I'll do it with software (post photo). The original should be as close as possible as the real color, even if it looks worse to some people.
I always love the cameras off the back of Lumias. Yes, megapixels don't always matter, so I'll put the Lumia 1020 aside and ignore the 41 megapixels it has. What I love is how you can tweak your photo to your heart's content, adjusting white balance, ISO, focus, shutter speed, and brightness on the fly. Not all phones can do that, and the ones that do don't have the intuitive UI the Lumias have. The dedicated two-stage shutter key on the side of most Lumias also make it convenient to use, no need to open the screen and go through shortcuts. Just click the button and your ready for pics. Colours are on the over-saturated side, and I like it, though I understand if others don't, as everyone's entitled to their own opinions. If you feel like Lumia cameras are just not your thing, I don't blame you, we all have different tastes and needs. But for me at least, I think the Mid-to-High range Lumias pack some of the best cameras out there n_n
+UniZebra i disagree. 41mp is good for crop, but on such a small sensor it's a disaster especially in any place that isnt bright as day. even on full frame sensors (that are like 5-7 times the surface area of the lumia 1020 sensor) suffer compared to full frames in the 20-24mp range. i was going to get a lumia 1020 just for the camera, but after looking at it compared to other cameras i quickly realized it isn't great at all.
it has the most megapixel but doesn't use it to it's full potential. while Samsung and iPhone with it's limited Megapixel count has very good image processing and sensor. also Sony.
Giovannie Doldolea I've never had the chance to work with new Galaxy s6 but I've heard that it also has a really good camera but camera of iPhone isn't good at all and just for the record when I say Lumias have the best cameras it's not because of the amount of megapixel they have but because of their photo quality, color accuracy, lossless zoom etc.
It's so crazy he used to film from his bedroom then he ended up getting his own building now he's moving to a even bigger building this man has blew up I've been watching him since the beginning literally
Marques, when are you reviewing the Sony Xperia Z5 premium? I'm so curious about is battery life and if 4k is overkill or the next frontier in display resolutions
+JustinianXLIII Justin, as I responded and you'll see, battery life will be fine because the display is set at 1080p when it's not viewing 4K content lessening the load on the GPU and not rendering as many pixels.
Theoretically worse than 2k, but at the same time battery life will be improved on bc, 8 out of 10 times you will not view 4k content other than local videos, camera, and maybe and maybe if you tube will support 4k on you tube mobile. Then again at the conference that means all the tech reviewers could not see the difference between 4k and 2k, in reality they were looking at a 1080p display. SO yeah confusing but yeah!
+Meu-SmartPhone 1. Imagina alguém comentando do jeito que tu comentou aqui, no teu canal? O que tu acharia? Legal? 2. Você assistiu o vídeo? Entendeu a ideia? Ele não ta falando de smartphones específicos, ele tá falando de "CÂMERAS" de smartphone, em geral. A tecnologia nelas.
onee That's one thing that has always been bad about budget smartphones, the camera. No matter how good the phone is you can almost always tell the difference between a flagship phone and a budget phone by the camera. And it's all because of the profit. Obviously the company wants to make a lot of profit but they have to start at a budget phone level because they don't got the reputation like Samsung and Apple have. So if they want to become the next Samsung or Apple they need to make a good smartphone that's still kinda cheap and they still want to make money. But good cameras take a lot of money not just for the hardware but the software too because you have to pay someone to code the software for that. Hope this helps😁
+Adam Anonymous really? i just commented and then read your comments, obviously. Why would you even watch the video before commenting? commenting before watching is second nature
+Chidiogo Onoh I really like the looks of the Priv, and I don't know how much useful the keyboard is, but it looks really appealing. I know from the other reviews that the camera is crap, but then again some of the functionalities that blackberry have implemented in their os looks really promising.

I've been following your channel for a while now and I'm really pleased with the quality of your videos. You keep getting better and better with every video. P.S. These videos in which you explain tech are really good, keep up the good work!
+Red If you're an Android fanboy, iPhone cameras are absolutely garbage. Wanna know why? You're blinded by the hate. As an unbiased consumer, I can tell you right away that iPhones have some of the best cameras on the market.
My LG G3 has Optical Image Stabilization, and it's awesome. It works incredibly well in videos. This really helps me since I do most video game accessory reviews, and I often need to have one hand free.
Samsung and LG phones are on the top 1 Samsung and 2 Lg because their cameras give the best image quality with their sensors... if i continue with the list then 3 sony 4 nokia and 5 iphones which suck
Thank you! Your reviews video are awesome but are these type of explained videos that really give you the upper hand in a sea of reviewers. Keep it up!
"more isn't better" When it comes down to picture quality, if the hardware and software are similar, the higher megapixel count will produce much better pictures. Sorry guys, Megapixel count does matter.
+Sergio Velasco, Not really with most phone sensors. If the lens is letting in the same amount of light, and the senor is the same size and similar spec, just a 10 megapixel and a 15 megapixel version, the image will basically look the same when you scale the either image up/down, you wont really get increased detail and clarity, because you'll get more noise with the higher megapixel version due to the less light per sensor pixel.
Zac D Do explain why most DSLR cameras are 20-30+ MP instead of being 10-15mp. There's a whole episode of Pocketnow weekly dedicated to camera sensor and picture quality. I recommend you watch it, a higher megapixel count is always better than a lower megapixel count. Obviously MP count isn't the the epitome of why a camera is good, but it is always good to have a higher megapixel count if possible.
Because DSLRs don't have to worry about all the extreme limitations of cellphone cameras (cost, size, depth, amount of light), when a cellphone sensor, you are typically trading number of megapixels with quality/accuracy/noise of those pixels. It's really a balancing act. As sensors get better or larger, you can get more megapixels while keeping or improving the quality of the image. With flagship cellphones they are all using very similar senors and they are all making similar trade offs. With DSLRs there's so much more variation in quality and size of sensors, and people are willing to pay the price premiums for better sensor, but not many people are going to pay an extra $100-200 for a better cellphone camera.
+Sergio Velasco geez another guy that doesnt know how sensor inside of the camera works. Firstly: 1. There will always a different between brands in terms of sensor design. Even though many models might have sma pixel count. 2. Pocketnow is not a calibre photography website. You should go to something like DP review or Photography Life. Don't believe why big sensor with less pixel are better than small sensor with 20mp or more like you mentioned? Well take a nikon D4 with only 16mp vs nikon d610 with 20 plus mp side by side in low light to compare. You can straight away tell which the clear winner
Between the iPhone and the Nexus 6P picture, I think most people voted 6P because they're android fanboys. The 6s one looked much more accurate with deep contrast and it really emphasized the sunset.
Innovation? Oh please! The only thing innovative here is the turbo charging Motorola invented first and NOT SAMSUNG, and the M9 motion co-processor. I'm using the iPhone 6s Plus and I like it because it's my cheap(free iMovie) 1080p-4K software of video rendering+editing videos on my pc with iTunes sync. Without the need of Sony Vegas even though I'm missing out on being able to upscale videos and add a little bit of smooth motion to it. I don't make UA-cam videos. NOR DO I MAKE PORN YOU BITCH. I had to say that because we all know someone is gonna try to be the funny one in the comments and say that. I either e-mail videos to other UA-cam channels or live streams on other sites. Nuff said, the iPhone 6S Plus makes a great performance buddy. It's not the best camera holder, but uses 4K and fast motion video recording with the balanced battery saving hardware in it. Mike M, I JUST WANTED TO INFORM YOU IN ALL CAPS THAT YOU SIR JUST GOT REKT. (Ran out of characters. Ok UA-cam)
That comment made you sound sound like an isheep. I liked that image better. I was telling myself please don't be the iphone and it turned out it was the Nexus. So there's your little stupid theory down the drain.
This guy (no offence) knows very little about camera. Number of lenses element counts, and all those ed glass and shit they make. The light, and all those dimensional perspective of the camera depends on what glass they put. More lens elements and Ed glass helps you get less chromatic abbreviations and stuff, but makes the camera have less dimensions, and make the picture looks damn 2D and not 3D like. Aperture is not the size of the hole, it is the focal length divided by the size of the hole. That's why f1.8 on a 50mm lens is ten thousands time bigger than f1.8 on a 7.5mm lens. Pixels size helps you capture more light, as ISO performance would be a lot better than big sensor camera of same megapixel compared to smaller pixels. I can talk about so much other things this guy doesn't understand, just don't want to list it out. This guy makes good reviews, but I really have to say this is video is a very shallow and not a very good one about camera sensors. This review was like a doctor trying to explain how to learn language. Also, (irrelevant) Auto mode is lame, manual is good.
+ECDT1089 . Got the G4, I'd say hardware wise probably the LG is better than samsung, but samsung "Probably" has a better software adjustments that probably makes the image more pleasing to the eye. None of which is a problem if you shoot in raw and edit your photo in lightroom.
This is perfect explanation and why I love this channel, cameras mean so much in variance. At first notice I did like the 6P photo but after looking in detail you I tell the 6S was much more real and better looking detail.
Thank you so much for explaining photography so I can simply share this with curious friends instead of attempting to explain! Once again MKBHD is the bomb. This channel has helped me with my tech addiction to say the least.
Dude I love these things! There are a lot of phones out there which I don't care about, especially after buying a new phone (which I recently did) so most of the phone reviews I don't watch anymore (I watched all of them when I was deciding what phone to get though (LG G4) so I'm not complaining lol). However these informative reviews videos I think are great! I love this and the chipgate video! Please keep these sorts of videos coming, thanks :)
Photodiode - I think was the term you were after. Pixel is not large or small, rather its data to define a dot with. Although in mainstream it often goes in place of photodiode further confusing people.
First time viewer. Thanks so much for the explanations. I'm not big on most cell phones as far as features except camera and calling. Have been trying to find a decent inexpensive android phone that takes decent photos. You just helped immensely. I have an IT background, and will use a desktop for my computer work, but my phone should take decent photos and video for social media..:-) Again, thanks and will check out your other video's..Regards from southern In.
That pixel analogy made the concept of camera sensor sizes make more sense to me. Great video!
Up until this video I never understood why Google was advertising larger pixels as an advantage.
OH MY GOD!COLD FUSION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad to see you here too. Maybe you too should make a video of modern photography someday. I really liked your evolution of digital camera video.

Nexus 6p is bae tho
And I hate the processor its using.
+lite If your hate is so petty it's on smartphones, I'm sorry for you man xD
Waiting on that Casey Neistat collab
me too man.
I think at 1:30 you are wrong. The ligh absorbent does not depend at all in the number of pixels, but the surface actually does. The same light enters the lens whether it has 16 or 4 MP, as long as they cover the same surface (have the same aperture)
But the 16mp get less light each, so Higher ISO - worse quality
MKBHD is my Tech Senpai. Crispy Level is over 9000. Awesome Video once again.
Finally a good video to explain this. Thanks Marques for taking the effort to make this video. :P
U make the best videos. and I love ur shorter intro with music!! keep up the great work ☺
I prefer the camera that capture as color-close as possible as the real object.
But for me at least, I think the Mid-to-High range Lumias pack some of the best cameras out there n_n
we want more video like this my friend!! be our mythbuster in mobile tech
was that lew from unbox therapy in one of the photos
yeah i think that's him
Yeah... you're TRUE!
lmao yes
It's lew, Austin Evans and UrAvgConsumer.
Hey Austin, this is guys.
Lumia 1020 and other high-end Lumias have the best cameras hands down
+UniZebra i disagree. 41mp is good for crop, but on such a small sensor it's a disaster especially in any place that isnt bright as day. even on full frame sensors (that are like 5-7 times the surface area of the lumia 1020 sensor) suffer compared to full frames in the 20-24mp range. i was going to get a lumia 1020 just for the camera, but after looking at it compared to other cameras i quickly realized it isn't great at all.
it has the most megapixel but doesn't use it to it's full potential. while Samsung and iPhone with it's limited Megapixel count has very good image processing and sensor. also Sony.
+UniZebra Did you even watch the video?
Get educated son...
That intro was beautiful, the quality of these videos just keeps getting better. Keep up the good work man.
Marques Brownlee channel had a LG ad feat. Marques Brownlee, that's so cool
Recommended 5 years later
It's so crazy he used to film from his bedroom then he ended up getting his own building now he's moving to a even bigger building this man has blew up I've been watching him since the beginning literally
Marques, when are you reviewing the Sony Xperia Z5 premium? I'm so curious about is battery life and if 4k is overkill or the next frontier in display resolutions
+JustinianXLIII Justin, as I responded and you'll see, battery life will be fine because the display is set at 1080p when it's not viewing 4K content lessening the load on the GPU and not rendering as many pixels.
+Alienware Gaming thx for the info, thts pretty smart
Alienware Gaming that's pretty cool but dissapointing at same time, so QHD displays on notes are much better overall then, correct?
Theoretically worse than 2k, but at the same time battery life will be improved on bc, 8 out of 10 times you will not view 4k content other than local videos, camera, and maybe and maybe if you tube will support 4k on you tube mobile. Then again at the conference that means all the tech reviewers could not see the difference between 4k and 2k, in reality they were looking at a 1080p display. SO yeah confusing but yeah!
+FATAL INSIGHTZ but why pay a premium price then for the same specs as the Z5?
+Meu-SmartPhone
1. Imagina alguém comentando do jeito que tu comentou aqui, no teu canal? O que tu acharia? Legal?
2. Você assistiu o vídeo? Entendeu a ideia? Ele não ta falando de smartphones específicos, ele tá falando de "CÂMERAS" de smartphone, em geral. A tecnologia nelas.
Whats with MKBHD videos that were posted 8 years ago re-appearing? "So I've been using the youtube algorithm to my benefit for a few years now"
i find it quite fitting that an LG Ad featuring TeamCrispy played right before this
SgtShaken4 Same
This was damn informative, till now i just though the megapixels played the most important role.
Your videos are just getting better and better. Keep it up
3:31 empire state building with France flag. RIP people who lost their lives in the attack.
+Dhinesh O B How does that work :O? this video was uploaded a day before the attack
No, I don't think that's the French flag. It has white underneath the red, aswell as above. Maybe it was for 9/11? IDK.
+ImA NewbieCuber It was from the Charlie Hebdo attacks back in January
+Tiaan Engelbrecht Aahhhh. I see know.

THIS VIDEO IS CRISPIER THAN MY DORITOS
Now this is what a tech review is and should always be. No blabbering. No fooling around. Just pure tech talk. Great video Marques!
lol that clipper jersey tho... Warriors all day. Strength in numbers. clipper r going down on the 19th
Basically in this video I talk a lot without saying anything. Thanks for watching and please tunes in to the next video; Peace.
dat intro and all the different cameras in the same position. Classy my friend.
One plus 2 doesn´t has good OIS
OnePlus has shit cameras, don't know why.
onee Cause they’re budget phones...
onee That's one thing that has always been bad about budget smartphones, the camera.
Miika Mäentaus You doesen't has good grammar
GD DatDawg lol
I was here before I commented this comment.
+FUBAR SAme
+Adam Anonymous really? i just commented and then read your comments, obviously. Why would you even watch the video before commenting? commenting before watching is second nature
your videos are amazing dude seriously keep it up your editing skills are insane
+Marques Brownlee Waiting for your Blackberry Priv review, which will help me decide if I should exchange it for my SGS6 Edge. Thanks.
+Chidiogo Onoh I really like the looks of the Priv, and I don't know how much useful the keyboard is, but it looks really appealing. I know from the other reviews that the camera is crap, but then again some of the functionalities that blackberry have implemented in their os looks really promising.
+Chidiogo Onoh What? Moto x costs less than nexus 6p.
Can't find the intro on SoundCloud (or elswhere with good quality) :(

I've been following your channel for a while now and I'm really pleased with the quality of your videos. You keep getting better and better with every video.
P.S. These videos in which you explain tech are really good, keep up the good work!
iPhone 6s has the best camera when it comes to smartphones..so what makes it so good, its accuracy or ease of use ?
its personal preference gosh. and s6 better my opinion
+Wm David why do you think so ?
+Saket Seshadri I like the pictures better because they r sharper and the more saturated pics r more pleasing to me
+Wm David personal preference 😅
+Saket Seshadri lets hope his inner fandroid breaks out
which phone do you think has the best camera app? in my opinion its the LG G4 and LGV10
Marques already said S6/S6 Edge/Note 5/Edge+ camera does better when in auto mode, and G4/V10 one does better in manual
Fangyi Deng agreed
But again not counting 6P or any late 2015 phones camera, so hopefully he'll do a top camera phones 2015 video!
+josue betancourt LG has the better camera App by far
+Fangyi Deng As someone with a G4, I totally agree with this
Loving these in-depth camera-related videos!
Hey, Did Marques change his name from Brownie to Brownlee...
Galaxy S7 f/1.7 😛
Great video in explaining how smartphone cameras work, loving the music you're starting to put into these videos more!
I thought the iPhone had the best camera, until I got a note 5 :D
+Jared Williams iPhone's have always had the crappiest camera since the beginning of time. Nonetheless, I'm glad you switched.
+Red that's such bullshit
uhh actually iPhone cameras have a reputation for being pretty nice shooters
+Red If you're an Android fanboy, iPhone cameras are absolutely garbage. Wanna know why? You're blinded by the hate.
As an unbiased consumer, I can tell you right away that iPhones have some of the best cameras on the market.
I agree completely man.
S7 f1.7 💪👊
My LG G3 has Optical Image Stabilization, and it's awesome. It works incredibly well in videos. This really helps me since I do most video game accessory reviews, and I often need to have one hand free.
2019? Anyone?
2020 bruh
Samsung and LG phones are on the top 1 Samsung and 2 Lg because their cameras give the best image quality with their sensors... if i continue with the list then 3 sony 4 nokia and 5 iphones which suck
Motorola's also good
samsung to me just caught on BUT i will put LG over sam
But nobody has mentioned that they all have Sony sensors in them
Thank you! Your reviews video are awesome but are these type of explained videos that really give you the upper hand in a sea of reviewers. Keep it up!
My one is bad only 2MP
RGC Tech mine is 23 mp
mine is 2MP i have microsft lumia 435 its soo bad its my first phone :(
RGC Tech 12mp
13mp
lion mine is 23
"more isn't better"
When it comes down to picture quality, if the hardware and software are similar, the higher megapixel count will produce much better pictures.
Firstly:
I appreciate the educational vids MKBHD!
Between the iPhone and the Nexus 6P picture, I think most people voted 6P because they're android fanboys. The 6s one looked much more accurate with deep contrast and it really emphasized the sunset.
+Mike M It was a blind vote, you didn't know which one was the nexus picture..... Apple fanboys like you are annoying.....
Innovation?
Ok UA-cam)
+Nathan Lopez Someone's salty...
+Nathan Lopez angry 4 year old
That comment made you sound sound like an isheep.
That intro was amazing!
EDIT: I keep clicking on this video just to watch the intro. I don't know why but it's addicting.
Motorola.
Your editing and video quality is so dope!!!!!
your best video in a while Marques
So cool to hear Hocus Pocus in one of your videos ! Wich are always good btw, keep up the good work ! :)
The V10's camera. Love it!
Excellent introduction, your videos keep getting better! Congrats!
I absolutely love your videos. The quality of the video, and the content. It's so straight to the point. =)
Sick intro with the centered sensors.
Nothing to say other than that I really enjoyed watching this video! Keep up the great work!
The best intro to a MKBHD video.
that opening sequence must of been a pain in the ass. It looked great! Also thumbs up for reppin my Clippers
This is really great, dive deep and explain it in a simple way
Just what I'm looking for. Well-explained and not too technical. Keep it up.
Nice video! I think this is the best kind of videos youtubers can make, explaining technology 😊
This is why you have so many subscribers :) your reviews are legit awesome.
Even in 2018 this video still holds up
Photodiode - I think was the term you were after.
I suggest you the Sony Xperia M. Maybe is 2013, but still does miracles, but the big minus is the internal storage
Nice Video! You make it easy to understand and easy to learn about camera quality.👍🏻
Your videos are getting even more BETTER!!!!!! :)
One of the best break downs of the truth I have seen! Great job!
Amazing explained video Marques. It cleared up my mind
