George MacKay's hindsight is truely remarkable. To be able to retrospectively examine and exhaust every minute detail around which the character he plays was constructed is a breath of fresh air. Acting is, in essence, a talent. Meta-acting is breaching the boundary between the role and the idea of the role played. From what I've seen, MacKay constantly engages in meta-acting. In simpler terms, he pays a whole lot of attention to the intricacies of filming, having in mind the inextricable relation between cinematography and the plot. His often engagement in filming details is not only a sign of a promising future in which directing and producing is possible for the young man, but is also a proof of his unequivocal understanding of the importance of the process of building a character, which should definitely come before undertaking and performing the role. its amazing how the film already gave us clues that scho already have daughters - from the picture of two little girls scho took time to look at in one of the beds in the german bunkers, the ragged doll in the floor of the abandoned house, then the interaction he had with the baby girl which showed his fatherhood... finally leading us to the moment where he looked at his own photograph of his 2 daughters. That is what the really soon actors do, is to exist as their character. Like Bobby Duval “become” “Gus.” I think of Spencer Tracy as “Manuel”
an 'uncle sam' reference/comparison for a director called sam. george is as fast as a whip!
As a viking age reenactor, I found Mendes' comment about nutty reenactors funny. :^)
Just saw the film. It was fantastic. A must see.
They're having such an engaging conversation that the food is not even distracting them wow
Congratulations on all the award nominations!👍👍
I loved the movie I hope that there will be another project with Dean and George
I can say this film can be watched a dozen more times to suck the cinematic fucking juice out of this goddamn gem.
I did a scene with George a few weeks ago.
Very humble, talented and amazing young man..
(Up and coming actors like myself can only pray to film with such an amazing actor, would be an honour to do more with him) 🙏 🏴
Thank you for this amazing movie. I did not want to see this movie because of my war experience, but my brother made me go to the theater to see 1917. I was so happy to be proven wrong. This was such a different experience from any other movie that I have ever been to. so many breathtaking moments, literally breathtaking. The cinematography, the casting, the lights, and the settings; everything was perfect.
What a movie. The eye for detail which transported the audience back to 1917. It is like they put in infinite amount of time and effort to develop a movie which make us want to watch it many times. Not a complicated plot, but yet they dealt the structural and technical complication with ingenuity and unwavering teamwork.
Kristy is absolutely gorgeous ❤️
I'm thankful for this interview
Love from India ❤
Thank you 1917 team
GEORGE AND DEAN ARE AWESOME
Lovely discussion. I was craving something like this after watching it. It really stuck with me. When i was describing a scene to my boyfriend the next morning i unexpectedly burst into tears. Never happens to me
How many of us just saw it and are watching "Making of" videos? I heard a man say the movie was great but depressing. Couldn't agree more.
The greatest of the virtues because it is necessary for all the others, is courage. I was lifted up.
That man was German!
isn't it fascinating how Dean-Charles Chapman looks exactly as if he were Sam Mendes's son
and another crazy idea: Roger Deakins look like the old version of George mackay 😅
20:25 I laughed at how sarcastic sam mendez about known actors having a "good future" in their career lol
I hope to see George and Dean in more movies!
The way sam looks at george at 12:35 like he is his son
