Absolute gem of a movie, thank you Mr. Valentine for your excellent work in enabling us to enjoy such wonderful few hours of respite from stressful days.
With respect, Meta, Sean was Sean Connery/James Bond - range was never his thing. But Gina was quite good in this, and Sir Ralph was, as always, brilliant. Surprising decent film.
Great movie, need more like this. Connery playing himself as he backhands Gina. Love it how he got it in the end. Gina Lollabrigida a great actress, underrated by Hollywood.
A very good movie. Talk about plot twists. Man, they sure as hell do not make them like this any more. It's a pity that we have lost talented writers, directors, actors, & actresses such as these. None of the crap that's made today can compare. Even if a modern writer and director were to lift a story from an old book like this one, I seriously doubt they could make it as well. Thank you for showing this movie.
Great cast, Richardson, handsome Connery and the most beautiful Italian actress Lollobrigida…. This was the time when movie, stars and production were at their best…not rap noise or vulgarity!❤🇮🇹🌹✨🇬🇧
Great acting from Sean Connery and Gina Lolobrigida. This was such a twisted plot, that I never would have guessed.Such a pleasure to watch the older movies.
Surprised how few people saw this Great movie , it had a Hitchcock feel ! Great acting Gina was not only Beautiful but a fine actress ! Enjoy all her movies!
That was really a intriguing and fantastic movie. I feel at a loss for I've been never able to have knowledge of or seen this movie all these years. it's enticingly engaging..
An unusual film with a very different Sean Connery who you otherwise feel you know so well in the role of James Bond. In this film he suddenly presents a completely different side of human nature where malice and calculation are the predominant character traits. Great acting art. Gina Lollobrigida with her gentle and upright appearance is just the perfect counterpoint to an unappealing and ruthless person
Wow, what a movie and a half! 👏 Highly recommend it to anyone wondering whether the 2 hours are worthwhile. Yes indeed. Enjoy! I'm going to try to get the book too. I saw that the writer has published several British murder mysteries.
A few years earlier, Gina was dubbed The most Beautiful Woman in the World. This was one of the few movies where she was made to dress down, and she was still a striking beauty. She was also considered an International Sex Symbol. She's one of the few actresses to truly look and be Beautiful and Sexy well into her 60's. A very good actress and later in life, a well known Photojournalist. Quite a lady.......
I give this 5 WOWs. Great story written by Catherine Arley. Great screen adaptation. Great direction. Great acting. Ok, Valentine, what do you have that tops this?
. . . . . may someone ask Hollywood to go back to the good old days? This is one of the best movies I've ever watched. Mr Valentine, thanks for the uploading. CHEERS!🤠
Yes on the surface the treatment may seem bad, wicked or not ethical. But he pays them and they stay. For all any one could know they may receive double conditional to accepting such behaviour. Therefore not that excusable. But LOL. IDK.
Outstanding film! Never saw this movie, don't know how I ever missed it! Gina Lolabridgata and Sean Connery were brilliant as the main characters! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Outstanding from beginning to end! Saw this many years ago on TCM. Recorded it on VHS but the ending was missing. Couldn't find it anywhere thereafter. Thanks a million for the upload!
So interesting how excellent films like this reflect the culture and values of a society... it's turning the mirror on the British culture of 60 years ago as it was still warm on its death bed. The aristrocracy as little dictators, and everyone else the 'other' to be accused, vilified and turned into less than human. The death of the old empire. The same that affects the US empire in 2024. Thanks for the upload, loved it.
Many of The Great Estates predate The Birth of The Empire (Victorian). And as with in the film the law allows hereditary transfer of wealth and titles. So Estates can stay with in a family for centurys. An Englishman's home is his castle. There fore the owner of a flat in a tenement block can be the herr Director. King in Charge and little dictator as you may say. If he pays the bills- he is technically incharge and responsible. I have no problems at all accepting that the Great Estate Owners or owners of their own homes are those who give the orders (If they so choose) with in their home or to those yhey have employed. But no-'' the others' to be accused, vilified and turned into less than human', No! I do not agree with that. People have rights and there are limitations.
@@MikeGreenwood51 Indeed, those behind the Empire tended not to be the aristocracy at all, but a new class of traders and business people. The Raj began as a trading venture by the East India Company in the 18th century while the African territories were colonised much later as a way to satisfy venture capitalists by replacing slavery (a traditional practice throughout Africa) with the rules of classical economics.
This movie was wonderful. Such an incredible plot. Gr8 portrayals by all 3 main characters. I agree with others. This seemed very much like a Hitchcock. 👍 Loved the exciting suspense. 👏
You will get blown away by the film. Howver, unless you are English or Britosh native speaker, turn on the English subtitles -- that way you will actually understand what Sir Ralph Rihardson and the others are saying.
Surprise, exiting and well done, Sean and Gina really young and beautiful, on starting career ❤❤ .Beethoven, Mozart Berlioz accompanying the developing scenario ❤
Remember seeing this many years ago. It was one of Connery's best films, with outstanding performances by Gina Lollabrigida and Sir Ralph Richardson, as well.
Man, talk about getting thrown for a loop over and over again; I got caught completely off guard so many times. Definitely going on my favourites list.

Women of Straw. Great movie still, after 58 years. Uncle Richmond's dislike for everyone kept me on edge, thinking that Uncle Richmond might have pushed someone to far and something might happen. In the meantime, Sean and Gina's acting were brilliant. Everyone involved had a great part and played it very well throughout. Sean is perfect for movies like this. the coal miner's relative saw it on that tape.
A great storyline from start to finish and I've never heard of this great film before.
What a fantastic movie. Thank you for posting it. Women are more emotional than men
Great casting Gina and Sean Connery
MASTERPIECE, pure and SIMPLE, AND VERY COMPLEX!
Saw this movie when I was a kid but didn’t remember the whole story so it was great to watch it again. Thank you 😊
Saw this in theater when I was 7 ,and really liked. Good mystery and casting.
