In these crazy times I want to be able to provide a place where people can come for an escape from what we are all talking/thinking about. That is why I have ramped up the content both on youtube and on instagram. I hope you are well Jay ❤️
Throughout being cooked up inside, getting out for a skate in the empty carpark has been my escape; now I've got more time I've been buying and researching new hardware, Ben's vid are and always have been a motivator to keep skating on😎😎
@@bendegros I also want to appreciate you not using "the buzzwords" in your titles - even looking at my youtube feed can feel a bit oppressive lately! A fellow Canuck
I go back and forth between your new updates and old vids. Your really coming into your own in respect to your video presence. As usual skating is dope you always look like your having fun. I live how you throw in the odd bail haha. Got the classic 90s white shirt and jeans look, mint. Anyway thanks for all the content lately man hope you and your family are happy and healthy. Can’t wait for the blanks, stay safe dude 👊🏼
You could always find an abandoned/hidden area and make your own! You probably have a bit of extra free time given the current situation, why not make something you’ve always wanted! There are plenty of resources out there, and if you want I can link an Instagram page I know.
robertsanidiot since I made that comment I have found a few other sources, but here are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head: (Instagram) @skatediy (Instagram) #BuildDIYtips (UA-cam) skatediy, but there are also many other videos on DIY, as a beginner you are mainly looking for how to design/make a mold and how to mix concrete, the mold should be simple enough if you watch a few videos but the concrete is something that is mainly trial and error (videos can help, but it is very difficult to be good at mixing concrete without some practice). (Edit: link to the Instagram page is: instagram.com/skatediy?igshid=1atkrfvqwhghs )
I am skating this exact deck right now on Tensor rrucks, bones hardcore hard bushings, bones Redz bearings and Spitfire bighead 51mm wheels. It is a heavy deck, but it's got lots of pop. It's a tank. I don't know if it is because of the slick layer, but this deck is proving very resistant to razor tail. My previous deck was handmade by some local friends that own a boutique longboard company. It was very heavy and had a super mellow concave. Once I got used to that deck, I realized that weight in a deck does not inhibit my skateboarding at all. Transitioning to this Creature deck was easy and I appreciate the weight and mild concave. My last slick was actually my 1st deck ever from back in the 90's. It was a G&S. I've worn through the slick layer on the nose of my Creature in a small spot. It hasn't hindered my slides. I don't know if I'll get another slick after this deck, but I sure will consider a Creature. Good review.
With the quality if your videos, you are headed to the stratosphere! So good to see skating that is within reach for EVERYBODY! Love it! And the music was EPIC! Namaste!
Creature is dsm wood shop, correct? I’m skating a madness (dsm) with pearl slick inlays, and I skated another dsm almost slick last summer. I know I’m in the minority, but I liked slicks in the 90s and am glad they are back. For now!
Hi Ben:) Thank you for being there while a large part of the world is upside down. Nice to see you and nice music. I suppose this slick will last longer than the one we used in the 90s...
Hey Ben, I used to not like Indys and I was only able to skate Thunders or Ventures. Indys were too high and curvy for me, I love plaza skating so I thought only Vs or thunders worked for ledged and flicks. Indys were for pool hippies and surfers. But I saw your video about Indys 139s hollows, and by seeing how you popped and did your tricks I decided to buy pair. I am loving them, such a smooth feeling and easy pop. So that is it, thanks for your content! You saved me lots of money and time of thinking Cheers from Spain : ) PS.: BTW, your skating was so high skilled, smooth and satisfying.
Ben, just a suggestion, but i would love to see you review decks from canadian brand and woodshop. I know we have to woodshop here in Qc named Control and the otherone is called woodchuck i believe and its very hard to find any review of those board. I just got a Studio deck myself (montreal brand that uses control woodshop i believe) and i like it so far but i would be really stoked to see what you got to say about them. Anyway, just a thought, much love from Montreal :) take care, stay safe and vest wishes to you and your whole little family!
This whole state of things has left me with a lot of time to board! I am always motivated to see you doing these reviews and cannot wait for that PNW summer! I used to ride a lot of what you show but migrated to a 34 inch freestyle board. The pavement is trashed around here and I would love to see you try out something chunky.
Love your Tre flips Ben. 1:13 the way your back foot follows almost like an impossible is very clean looking. So many skaters just snap a Tre and let it come to their feet effortlessly but I think yours look way steezier
Thanks for this review Ben! Hope you guys are all good there despite of the on-going pandemic. I haven't skated here in Manila for 2 weeks and I still need to wait for the next 2-3 weeks if things would improve here for everyone's safety.
I just ordered the element nat geo eyes deck and Primitive Neil's purple deck. This quarantine is not stopping me either. Ben what tips do you have for someone thats 27 and never really practiced his balance growing up? I've been putting an old deck on a foam roaller and use that on the days dont skate to practice balancing on it.
Even if its gimmick in a way it's kind of smart of them. Because I remember about some of board set up videos of pro skaters speaking about them popping the shields and such often on their bones swiss. But also little funny some of simple technical stuff names like which truck size some I think got confused because of different name size way of describing sizes on trucks. Like : Indy venture , thunder different size names.
Idk, the whole reason I asked was (as an engineer) bearings benifit from a shield because it helps hold the lubricant and avoid dust and water from entering the bearing 🤷🏼♂️ it's cool if you're a pro and you can shred shieldless (it's bad ass) 😂 but if you wanna make a set of bones reds last, keep your shields on man, they're your best friend.
But part of this gimmick make kind of sense that for shorter time I think it will last. Also i think may feel nice driving like this for some because they like sound I might mu self have it little like that as I grew up where I lost often have had board with bad old noisy bearing when then skating with beings who dont give noice and feeling like that when driving it can feel strange for some skaters I think little like some dont like how hollow trucks are how they grind or/ and sound when grinding and maybe partly there fore better like standard trucks and not hollow also for some who like heavier truck weight may of course also be part or only reason for preferring standard trucks.
Awesome tunes! FINALLY!! Haha ;) Ohhhh the lil fella called a trick and you got it first try, decent. An idea I had but didn’t write in the big paragraph I did on your survey....Time to bring back SlamCity Jam !!!!! 👍
Cool review . I really like the Santa Cruz Skateboards Everslick. You should do a review on the Airwalk Prototype skate shoes that are making a come back. Dear Ben Degros, I did an unscientific test of my boards angle on thunder vs indy's. Measured with the tail pushed down -> iPhone between the bolts -> iPhone's built in leveler. This was without wheels, mind you. Results? Both at 31 degrees of angle on my Real Full SE 8.25. This doesnt make sens? Indy with its shorter wheelbase should have less angle? Or is the indy's height making up for it? Lack of wheels? Or maybe my iPhone's leveler is trash. Please make a video on this!
I remember seeing this deck on sale at zumiez for 30 dollars when i was stuck skating 8.25s, ive started skating 8s more and really wish i would have bought it.
one thing i noticed recently is that the creature decks depend on which model they use on what the tail feels like, like the provost decks, those tails are flat as shit and feel terrible to be completely honest, but every other creature ive skated, like right now a baekel vx, it has a perfect scoop on the tail with the concave, same as the stumps one i got, and same as the baker i have, its just weird, i just wish creature never changed manufacturers

Now that you rode a slick you should do a review/test of a board w deck rails on how it slides vs weight etc 💯
How come in some wheel reviews you use the bearings without the rubber shields?
Your content is really appriciated in this time 👌
I always use them unless they don't come with them like the bronson shieldless. Didn't like the shieldless. I thinks it's a gimmick.

that curb spot looks so fun
My son loved it too.
Hell I've been so long out of the game lol.. I thought slick died by the end of the 90's. I had a plan b slick back then xx
You should try some mini logo trucks. Andy anderson is pro for them so I'd like to see how they hold up
Hi Ben, i've seen some Egg shaped decks made by Heroin skateboards, so i wanted to ask you can you review one of them, thanks in advance.
I had a television ed templton slick in covid green. If covid snot hardened on a deck, how would that slide?
You are the best skate you tuber and I love u homie
Dude thanks for putting music to your skating. I like it better even if I am not a fan of the music :)
Do a review on boards with wheel wells like the ones 917 or Madness makes
Hi ben, i would like to know if you have any thoughts about the Creature P2 decks. Stay safe my dude!
Ben. You are awesome.
You are too!!!!
Hey Ben you should make a review on vans Rowan pro
what type of skateboard is good for beginners because i really want to learn
I’ve got a couple creatures. I like wider but definitely not want to much on the tail
Do you think the slick makes the board stronger?
There’s nothing like seeing a new Ben degros video in my notifications
Tre flip!!! On flat?
have been riding slicks for my last 3 decks. not going back lol
Hi did u have any problems with the china produced indys??
Have you tried orbs apparitions? Ops?
please review the nhs vx decks if you can dude!
was that grey curb waxed? looked like raw concrete...
i feel like everslicks are less durable to, mine didnt last a few days of skating and snapped on a flat ground heel flip. meanwhile my spare normal wood creature board which i also got from nhs has survived hundreds of heel flips. i dunno
Yo Ben, what would you say the ideal wheel base is for Thunder Trucks on a 8.25 board?
I had no idea that this existed. I think I want one.
I like wide decks with shortish wheelbases, until I can get a wide slick deck with a 14.25-14.5 wheelbase it's probably not going to happen for me. It's hard enough to get wide boards with shorter wheelbases
Real full SE decks
Never forget weights, please
I am looking for a light and durable deck, lighter in weight, and noticeable, ideally at least 100-150gms less than a regular board
I am looking at the flight decks, and was kind of set, until I heard you say that they chip easily, which is a drawback, along with the only slight weight gains, I'm not one for breaking boards but that security is excellent, though I do razor tail a lot, and chip the sides a fair bit, too
I need to balance out the huge wheels that I am riding, and the extra weight that incurs
I want a board that lasts forever, I'm 43 now (been riding seriously since 1986, reborn on the south Bank of London) and I don't grind my trucks hardly ever, I'm less and less technical, and as ever I use my board as my daily transport
All the same I'm a street skater, I need to pop up and down stairs and kerbs on my route, I need to hit banks, score manuals, trick over every man-hole cover, you know how it is
What's your recko?
I ride Indy 149 hollow titanium
62mm 80a thin wheels with a huge hollow core (skiffs)
I had been riding 8'25" boards consistently for five years straight, and I just moved down to an 8' board which I love, as I feel I gain control and lose weight, I also love the feel of my wheels sticking out clearly over the sides of the board
I'm hoping never to have to buy trucks and wheels again, and I want a board to match
Just having to fork out for grip and bearings
Peace ☮️
Liked before I even heard the word deck
Ben what music do you listen to?
Hey man could you make a video on your top 5 favorite skateboard decks? That would be super helpful for beginners like me😂
