- The arrival of the XC40 means that for the first time in its history, Volvo Cars has three new, globally available SUVs in what is the fastest growing segment of the automotive market! Depending on where you live, you can for a FWD Volvo XC40 or an AWD one!
Volvo’s research into and testing of AWD systems goes back more than 20 years. The first AWD Volvo car to go into serial production was the Volvo 850 Estate, launched in May 1996! Advances in AWD technology mean that improved handling, stability and traction continue to provide a confident, agile and enjoyable driving experience while reducing fuel consumption. The Volvo XC40 AWD is a compact and lightweight coupling (BorgWarner Gen. 5) distributes the engine’s power between the front and rear wheels. Under normal, dry conditions practically all of the power is distributed to the front wheels. The system constantly calculates the need for torque to the rear wheels and can instantly redistribute up to 50 percent of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels. When at a standstill, a full all-wheel drive is always engaged to prepare for maximum traction during acceleration.

This is one of the nicest looking SUVs.
I got this recently. Love everything about it.
For the people calling this average, no way, it is above average and very solid AWD, you should check the vehicle in snow and off road, when 4 tires on the floor it is incredible.
I think it did quite good its just that i think it needs a bit more time for it to sense a wheel slipping before transferring power to the other wheels
Nice design that Volvo uses on the SUVs. I couldn't help staring at the hood to door line above the fender though. This AWD would be great on pavement but eco and off-road didn't seem different.

It did pretty well, considering it probably got normal road tyres ! if it all terrain tyres then I'm sure it would do better, but at the end of the day, it wasn't defeated by any of the challenges, so it's a pass.

Tiguan uses the same All wheel drive as Volvo (Haldex gen 5) so it will perform similar which is very good.

Agree with average. Not nearly as competent as then RDX.
Yeah, about as good as the MDX....
@@BriansRCStuff had similar 6-7 roatations like the RDX of the front tire. Though the XC40 did spin the rear more it might have more rearward bias than the Acura.
GM Twin Clutch would do this about one revolution or less as it does on the thre rollers on an incline.
For a premium (expensive) SUV, it's not very promising. RDX and X1 were much better. This is CX-5, CR-V level which are pretty much half the price.
RDX spun its front tire 6-7 times also. Seems to depend on load the operator place on the throttle as if the speed was to go faster than the wheel in the air would spin even more.
