I love how she's scared and hesitant until the guy in the hoodie sings. It's like he projected his energy onto her and he just gave her this push to let go of all her fear and insecurity. Before he even opens his mouth, you can see her getting excited and I love it 😍😍
Derrick Mims Ahh thanks for correcting me. I totally got him mixed up. I should have realized because that dude is a giant 😂😂 I didn't even discover him until this movie!
From what i heard, Keala Settle has always been part of choruses in broadway musicals. She has a very powerful voice and wide range, so she always does the belting parts you hear in musical choruses. But Hugh Jackman approached her and told her that she has to take this role, she was reluctant and afraid of being in the spotlight because she has never done it before. Which was why she said she didn't want to come out infront of the music stand at first because she was scared. She clearly broke down a few times while singing in the presentation, and she turned to Hugh for strength because he was the one who encouraged her to be brave and show what she can do by taking up the role as Lettie.
when she goes over to Hugh and he takes her hand 😭 I Swear he's the loveliest man in Holywood, absolute Sweetheart, and he was absolutely right Keala is amazing
Lort I'm so glad I don't have to type this because you already did. Because this is even more powerful when you realize the story behind it and that she hadn't actually accepted the role at this point. Basically she accepting it when she grabbed High Jackman's hand. She realized she was worthy of the opportunity she waited her life for which he'd placed at her feet and she refused. Good thing her refused to cast anyone else and kept nagging at her. She only agreed to sing for the green light session. Now look! He was right. It was her role. And the song even write just for her voice before he ever asked her.
Keala Settle was the first understudy as Tracy Turnblad in Hairspray on Broadway, then played the role in the first national tour for THREE YEARS. She was nominated for a Tony Award in her performance at Hands on a Hard Body, played Madame Thernadier in the 2014 Broadway revival of Les Miserables. Lastly, she's the original Becky (I think, can't remember the track) of Waitress on Broadway.
Keshia, we are all perfectly imperfect, we are all one of a kind and unique. Love yourself for who you are because the world will never see another you. And isn’t it grand. Be you.
Y’all the other day I tried showing this to my cousin, explaining that I had watched it at 1 am and cried. We got through maybe the first minute and all she could do was laugh at the the performers exuberance and Keala’s hair flips. She told me that I probably cried just cause it was a late night. No hate to her, but it really takes a specific type of person to appreciate and be moved by this performance. Absolutely other worldly, love it.
I think it would take a specific type of person to NOT be moved by this performance; the lyrics alone are so powerful and resonant, but these guys called it right: Keala _became_ the song - all of the emotions, not just the exultant ones, but the scared vulnerable ones as well, and we got to watch her face her fears and come through fighting ✊
I'm sorry but it's like your cousin has never been knocked down. I grew up with my own parents telling me they never talked about me or my brother to their friends because we hadn't done anything worthy of them to brag about us. Grew up being called stupid, weak, etc, and my own mother asking me why couldn't I be less like me. So this song absolutely resonated with me.
The setting and atmosphere definitely sets the mood; I watched this with my family noisy around me in the living room, I didn't even feel the whole movie :/ But when I watched it again in private, it was great and I was touched. Maybe that's what happened to your cuz, orrr she's just one of those people who doesn't really feel things when watching stuff
I've had hater cousins who i was forced to grow up with. They were just evil. But so were their parents. When grown, only 1 became a kind person. She had it the worst with her parents. As an adult, i cut off ties and my life became better. You can change your life for the better when you choose your family.
I never watch reaction videos because it seems so dumb and weird to me. Yet I just decided to click on this video and after watching I totally get it. Reaction videos are great because you get to share something you love with someone else who will love it.
same exact thing for me. this is the absolute first reaction video I have ever watched...btw I am 33 and live on youtube. and I can promise that it will not be the last
I think that you guys already know this, but a green light is when they perform before the producers to get the funding for the movie. This is the song that did it . This was a dream project for Hugh for 10 years. If you watch him, he knows this got it for him. I still tear up every time I watch it. The energy in the room is beyond anything I have ever seen in music.
Yeah ! The guy at the piano is one of the writers and they wrote all of the music for the musical as well as the music for La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen. They've won Oscars and Tonys and just a Golden Globe for this song so this has been a great couple of years for those guys. You should react to either the Color Purple cast performance at the Tony Awards or a stage version of Cynthia Erivo performing "I am Here" in the Color Purple.
Idk what rock I was living under, but the first time I heard Cynthia sing was on the Today show in 2016 for Color Purple. I was so thrilled that she won the Tony.
Watching her come out of her shell and gain confidence and how deeply she felt the words and let the build up of emotion inside her flow out of her as the music, it was so powerful. 🥰☺
I was at work after the film came out and said "That Hugh Hefner is really hot". Everyone looked at me like I was crazy, and I said "oh God Hugh Jackman"! LOL 🤣
I’m upset it didn’t win a Oscar, but it did get that Golden Globe. Here’s to those who made a difference “No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else”~Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum
A bit of background for you... Hugh Jackman got his start in musical theater in Australia. you can probably find his previous work on UA-cam. Most of the people you see in the background singers are some of the best singers in the Broadway community. The Guy who sings with Keala is Ben Thompson from (American idiot) also there is Andrew Keenan Bolger from Newsies and Jeremy Jordan from Newsies also Cynthia Erivo from the Color Purple. So us Broadway Geeks totally can "geek out" on this!!
I love how this song and how it was sung cause it's like a storm gathering it's strength and then unleashed its power! It's also like a journey on how she was shy, fearful and unsure at the beginning and then slowly gaining confidence and reaching the "fuck it, i'm done, this is me" level.
I'm so happy you guys reacted to this video... The same part gets me every time.. It's Hugh's reaction when she grabs his hand.. You can hear him take a breath.. And woooooo... Goosebumps... This woman is a star! I'm so happy it won the Golden Globe, I can only hope she gets to sing this at the Oscar's... Love your guys videos! Love the way the music moves you, you feel the music and I just love watching your reactions guys! Thanks for always making me smile 😊
You guys are just lovely 😊 You bounce off each other so well, I love how much you appreciate music and people who sing and how so many of the people you've done reaction videos about - they're all so different, but you see the amazingness in each of them. It's uplifting and wonderful.
And this is why it won the golden globe!!! Thanks for the amazing reaction guys!! Can you please react to the rest of the greatest showman soundtrack? 💙
I rewatch this video every 3 to 4 months because 1) I love how y’all react to Ben Thompson singing it’s my favorite thing like “okay SANG” 😂 and 2) it’s just so much fun and heartening to watch y’all be moved by this performance and reflect on it.
You are absolutely right. Speechless is all it comes down to. If you haven't seen the movie and her part is mind blowing. Enthralling. And if you don't fit into societies "norm" let this be your anthem!
You nailed it; the song took over the room. If you're a singer, and if you're lucky, there are times when a vibe happens, and it's like being stoned, being taken out of yourself completely, and if you're really, REALLY lucky, the entire room will go with you to that place. I saw when it happened: when she sang, "here I come," and she realized she really was going to have to leave the safety of her music stand, so she pushed out in front of it and just let go into the meaning and the emotion of the song. That was a real thing. I feel like I've been honored to have witnessed it.
I love your reactions. I was honored to be apart of the green light performance and I’ve been apart of many musicals and this was hands down the best one yet.
No matter how many times I watch the movie or hear this song, I cry. Great performance, great lyrics and great music. Thanks for sharing your reaction. This is the first time I found you guys. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks for showing your emotions and not being 'ashamed' of expressing joy. I detest the idea that we're somehow stronger when we bottle up our feelings. We need more of this. KEEP IT UP!! Well done gents!!
I saw this musical film in cinema yesterday and each song was so unique...it was like each one of them fit our personal life journey and like we knew those already. Just magical.
Loved this reaction video-being a southerner I got a feeling of being in church during the summer revival when the special music would just blow us all away as it was so moving. U can't sit still during this song!
Some days I wish I had a voice like one of these performers. Other days I realize that I would spend a lot of time being an emotional mess if I could. This performance is mind blowing.
Absolutely brings me to tears every time!! Love keala she's amazing!!! This song really resonates with me coz I've been bullied for my size my entire life.. this song brings out your strength at the same time you want to be accepted for who you are!! Love the greatest showman have watched it so many times, especially if im feeling down.. it immediately makes you feel empowered & that you can do anything!!
I cried a full River during Hamilton..and still am..BUT this made me cry 2 river's. Story time!: I got bullied at school because of my weight by a higher grade level than me. I was in the 7th grade and they were in the 8th. I cried and cried. So I decided to be homeschooled. Once I found this song..I begged my mom to take me back to school. She agreed and I went back to the same school and stood up to them..I told my mom and we cried together. That's was the happiest day of my life to feel accepted and loved. And I still cry knowing that people actually care for me.
I love you guys! I sincerely appreciate your celebration of the good, the compassion, and the diversity of life! So many people are hurtful, cynical, angry, divisive, and exclusive these days. BUT you guys are so much about sharing inspiration. God bless!
I love y’all! But as far as this goes??? Mannnnn!!! I felt that hurt when she started singing. Then she stepped in front of the stand and just ignited that room❤️ That song as a whole is so uplifting and has become such a powerful anthem to those who feel “different “ or unloved or who has been criticized for being them. What an inspiring and uplifting song and moment. I am so glad they filmed it❤️
I love that you guys got up and danced. This song is all about joy and understanding. I'm 69, and I luckily grew up knowing some musicians. But, I've never ever seen so much musical energy in a room as in this clip. The love in that room is off the charts.
I am literally in tears right now that was so freaking beautiful.. Don't ever let anybody make you feel like you're worthless because you're not..We are All God's children and we are all Beautiful...
Pure pleasure, watching you guys get this. The greatness of it. Took me back to the first time I saw it. Thanks for sharing your great personalities. I walked out of this movie crying tears of joy. Bawling. SO BEAUTIFUL!
You guys were literally me while watching that 😄😍 she is so authentic!! Seeing her come out of her shell and open up to the room, and now the world - ahh it’s beautiful!!
Not even done watching this, and you two have had the absolute best reaction to this video. Thank you for getting into it as much as you did. It made everything even better.
hey guys my name is tab, im a young lady with disabilities, this is my song. im a four time survivor of bullying a two tme survivor of unwanted harrassment, im a survivor of both verbal and emotional abuse, i always thought that i was a reject unwanted, and unvalued, as a christian god set me free, hes given me gifts such as designing abstract art and im now attending college FOR ART, , something that people told me i would never be able to do. im on a servant team at my church, im also a personal friend of tim tebow, he;s my protector whos rescued me three times from people who tried to hurt me AND DO ME HARM. , he continually speaks the truth about who iam, , iam chosen accepted loved valued a daughter of the true king, and continues to be there as i battle three medical issues back to back. hes given me the eyes to see that im worthy loved and precious to god, iam blessed to say that iam know one of his night to shine princessess. The guy on the piano is Justin Paul... he is one of the writers. The Bluray DVD has the story behind the music and shows them hard at work on the score. The guys were on fire writing the tunes for this show!
You young men are awesome! Loved your reactions. I used to teach drama and watching this video had me in tears. It was like the Lord was in that room. So, so glad this presentation rehearsal was filmed. Such a blessing!!!
I love the soundtrack version of this song. That being said, this version takes you to church with the power and emotion behind it and makes me cry every time
This song means so much to me personally. I’ve been through a lot of shit and have had to learn to stand up for myself and who I am and not give in. High school was really tough and I wish I had this song back then. This song always gives me goosebumps and I love it.
Your reaction is exactly how everyone reacts to a hit song that’s sung so passionately!! Love this!! Thank you for this made my day cos I know I’m not the only one who got emotional to this song in the movies ❤️
This movie really worked for me, SPOILER ALERT.. when the girl gave young Hugh the apple my heart broke, my baby sister who is over 20 is disabled and I have heard the comments and seen people’s reactions around her, all that came smashing straight into my mind. Really enjoyed this so much.
It took me months to find someone who felt the same way I did about that screen. So many thoughts hit me all at once and I just started crying. 😍😍 Love this movie
The guy who was playing the piano did write the song on the plane the day before on the way to that presentation. If you watch the iTunes extras, there's bonus footage on this song as well as all songs in the movie.
Great video. The song was amazing. It was almost like a spiritual experience. For people like me, that deal with anxiety and depression, for my daughter that copes with bullies, for ANYONE that has ever had ANY downfalls in life, this song touches us in a deep part of our soul. Love it! Thanks for posting!
GUYS. I SAW MY BABIES: JEREMY JORDAN, CYNTHIA ERIVO, AND AKB!!!!!! Also, Keala is a literal gift from God we should all love her as much as we love raw cookie dough.
Thank U thank U thank U for your reaction to this video. I feel the same way. I’ve watch this probably 10 times in the last two days and every time I get goosebumps.
😍😻 no lie she made my heart all tense when she sang this song. It's one of them songs that is addictive but with so much meaning. I'm so pleased she did perform in the Greatest Showman because no one else could of done it better. Another great reaction. Love your intro #Catchy
Absolutely perfect reaction, that was me beyond! Brilliant channel! Definitely subscribed! Happy and looking forward to South more and many videos to come from you two. You’re two are brilliant and wonderful!!!
Gentlemen, I have never seen your channel before but I have watched Keala's video daily for the past week. Your reactions were amazing and I'm so glad you got so much enjoyment from this song. The song is a true anthem and speaks to so many people. I cry at the same point. If you look at Hugh Jackman when he let's go of Keala's hand he points skyward. I've always taken that as his recognition that there is something larger than all of us. You guys are part of that something. Thank you.💝
I love how she's scared and hesitant until the guy in the hoodie sings. It's like he projected his energy onto her and he just gave her this push to let go of all her fear and insecurity. Before he even opens his mouth, you can see her getting excited and I love it 😍😍
Jeremy Jordan is sitting at the table by Hugh. But that dude in the hoodie is awesome, I agree, and he does get her fired up.
Derrick Mims Ahh thanks for correcting me. I totally got him mixed up. I should have realized because that dude is a giant 😂😂 I didn't even discover him until this movie!
Exactly!!!!!!!!! I got that too!
If there is something more than a like i could do .. i would have done it ...
I think that energy went both ways. Incredible transformation at that moment.

Oh, no wonder she looked more comfortable when everyone was singing. You can see her feeding from their energy
that hand grab with keala and hugh and that sigh of relief happiness.... love that made me cry happy tears
when she goes over to Hugh and he takes her hand 😭 I Swear he's the loveliest man in Holywood, absolute Sweetheart, and he was absolutely right Keala is amazing

Keshia Williams Was you do you boo 😘
Me too. I never felt so empowered
This song lifts me so high. I cry because I felt like the first first and now, child, this is me, it fits so well,
AS YOU SHOULD!! ❤️❤️❤️
Keshia, we are all perfectly imperfect, we are all one of a kind and unique. Love yourself for who you are because the world will never see another you. And isn’t it grand. Be you.
That felt like praise and worship
Yep! Girlfriend took us to church. :)
I thought the same haha
Yes that’s exactly the feeling!! You nailed it
Except this was about real things and not fairy tales and a grand wizard in the sky.
Jess Hammond we respect your opinion Jess, no need to go on the defence

Yes, now you get it, Christopher! It’s a beautiful thing when you can tap in yo the power of music and just let it move you.
Welcome to a new perspective, Chris.
Take a seat and enjoy the ride, this will go on for years :P
The singing and song moved me so much I was crying by the end of the song.

blackelsey. Yassssss I am here would be a great reaction video! Funnily enough Cynthia is in this video
Agree!!! Yes please!!!
They’re my favorite modern composers
That wasn't a greenlight meeting. That was straight-up church.
I love watching the piano player the whole way through the performance, his expressions are so great.
Right bruh!!
Watching her come out of her shell and gain confidence and how deeply she felt the words and let the build up of emotion inside her flow out of her as the music, it was so powerful. 🥰☺
"When she grabbed Hugh Hefnner-" 🤣🤣🤣 I CAN'T !
He’s not Hugh Hefner...

“No one ever made a difference by being like everyone else”~Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum
Oscar or no Oscar, this was a classical musical that will still be relevant in 50 years.
The guy playing the piano is one of the guys who wrote the songs!!!

Watching with kids we said, "Hey! That's Crutchie!!"
Who is the female singer in white shirt and black pants?
My inner theatre nerd was SCREAMING
dmike03 Carrie Manolakos, amazing singer! Look up her rendition of "Creep" by Radiohead!
I love how this song and how it was sung cause it's like a storm gathering it's strength and then unleashed its power! It's also like a journey on how she was shy, fearful and unsure at the beginning and then slowly gaining confidence and reaching the "fuck it, i'm done, this is me" level.

I am so glad they filmed it❤️
I always love your guys reaction!!!
Mileven simply beautiful
I love that you guys got up and danced. This song is all about joy and understanding. I'm 69, and I luckily grew up knowing some musicians. But, I've never ever seen so much musical energy in a room as in this clip. The love in that room is off the charts.
This is just a beautiful I put on repeat and I always get tearful while listening to it and also singing along. I love this song
Laurie Eno agreed 💯💯👏🏽👏🏽
You guys were literally me while watching that 😄😍 she is so authentic!! Seeing her come out of her shell and open up to the room, and now the world - ahh it’s beautiful!!
Keala Settle representing the 808 :) proud of u girl!!
I listen to this song everyday. It inspires me to be me. No matter what my faults are. You guys are amazing! Love y’all ❤️
The energy and the vibe you get in these kinds of songs just makes you wanna stand and keep going even though life is tough...
You guys are so great. You’re both so emotionally open to watch you’re watching.
Not even done watching this, and you two have had the absolute best reaction to this video. Thank you for getting into it as much as you did. It made everything even better.

The guy on the piano is Justin Paul... he is one of the writers. The Bluray DVD has the story behind the music and shows them hard at work on the score. The guys were on fire writing the tunes for this show!
I appreciate how real you guys are... Made my moment... thanks guy... subscribed and followed just because of this and you being real.
Where have you two been all my life! Subscribed.

Redhead.Artist I JUST SAW IT TODAY AND ALMOST JUMPED OUT OF MY SEAT
This Is Me... This is such a powerful song and THIS performance is electrifying. I am so thankful to see it. Thank you guys for featuring it today.
This movie really worked for me, SPOILER ALERT.. when the girl gave young Hugh the apple my heart broke, my baby sister who is over 20 is disabled and I have heard the comments and seen people’s reactions around her, all that came smashing straight into my mind. Really enjoyed this so much.
santzklawzzful 💯👏🏽👏🏽
It took me months to find someone who felt the same way I did about that screen. So many thoughts hit me all at once and I just started crying. 😍😍 Love this movie
The guy who was playing the piano did write the song on the plane the day before on the way to that presentation. If you watch the iTunes extras, there's bonus footage on this song as well as all songs in the movie.
This video made me cry. I love that you are reacting to this. Get the tissues!

😍😻 no lie she made my heart all tense when she sang this song. It's one of them songs that is addictive but with so much meaning. I'm so pleased she did perform in the Greatest Showman because no one else could of done it better.
Another great reaction. Love your intro #Catchy
Love it!! My reaction was exactly the same!! ❤️🎼🎵🎶
Props to you two. Best reaction out there. You nailed it, "she became the song" And you weren't afraid to show that she touched your heart♥
Queen
It was just so powerful...... the awakening of a Diva... i cry everytime i watch it
Real men are not afraid to show their emotions. Two real men here.
Absolutely perfect reaction, that was me beyond! Brilliant channel! Definitely subscribed!
Happy and looking forward to South more and many videos to come from you two. You’re two are brilliant and wonderful!!!
not gonna lie when you said 'when she grabbed hugh hefner's hand' i almost went into cardiac arrest from laughter
Thank you.💝
