This is Ukraine vs Russia. This man served in the Middle East. Not downplaying his service first of all. The combat intensity, ammo used, casualties, in just over 1000 days are not even comparable to Iraq or Afghanistan. Probably combined. Also, those conflicts were multiple years longer. The Iraqis had mortars and small arms mostly. Some scuds, but the Afghans had far less. It would be like putting any of us back in WW2, oh I also failed to mention the Drone threat that didn’t exist in the conflicts mentioned.

My wife and I have been fans of your channel for some time now but the bravery it must've taken to do this series is incredible, and for such an important topic. Even for a former US infantryman having seen combat in Iraq, the level of danger on the Ukrainian frontline is on a whole different level. Thank you for bringing back such dangerous, but needed reporting. Just like the Ukrainian men you travelled with, this is a true heroes work.
Please watch yourself out there, and on any similar future ventures though - your ability to break down complex geopolitical issues is not only informative, and easy to follow, but impressively low on bias, and honest about any existing bias you might have.

I'm an average 11C infantryman from the 1980s. Some things seem the same and others seem like science fiction. The ability of the drones has changed the battlefield in ways I couldn't have imagined back in the day. It seems like the difference between WWII and my time in the Army in the 80s. It's roughly the same amount of time from the 40s to the 80s as from the 80s to the 2020s. It's surreal to be able to see the front lines in videos like this and others. I've been watching a couple of ukrainians reporting on the war since total war began. My biggest disappointment has been that we have not given the ukrainians everything they needed with no restrictions faster than we did. I feel like we could have done better. I was just out of the army when the Warsaw pact and Soviet Union fell but in the back of my mind I always felt that Russia was not going to just fade away into history and that one day something like this would happen. It's unfortunate that we cannot find some way to share this world without killing each other. ☮️

Drones were first fielded in World War I. The US was, however, a few decades behind Israel in utilizing them for cavalry substitution.
Just look at how much that was actually policy screwup and not technological advancement. Take Eastern Afghanistan, for instance. More medals of honor were given out in a tiny container there than all the rest of OEF AND OIF, combined. How many lives could’ve been saved had they simply had a Fixed wing ISR drone assigned to each regiment like the Russians already were doing?

I mean like that will get you killed in war and peace... Hinde why the uS has always interccpting every rival when it gets close to US land/waters/airpspace/space space... Like how do they know it';s not on it's way to hit someesalse more uimportant then a bunker or trench line? Also like all of Ukrianes commado raids with drones has been them not hitting the low hanging fuit they pass... They go for the big prised deep behind enemy lines... So yeah... Cappy is right... How do you know that is yours? Like they don't have transponders or even blue and gold type for ukriane... So that to me seems like one of he worst warcrimes... Not being in your uniform when active duty on station... As if anyone exploted this it would be choas as the Gazans found out duiring Isrealis Hamas campaign... Odd that ukriane and Russia has realized this yet... and using airsoft milseim tape like they already do as they all have the same camo is evidence of this... Also it would make drone much less terrorfiing as you would no if it's your or not... Also it would cut down on the freijdly fire wars from spooked infary waging a war with the drone iperators as nether can see the others insimnga aand the drone operators can';t be using camara that are anything but otter trash.. So yeah they really should use tape as insigna for their drones it;s only a net postive...

It is one thing for big network talking heads to do 2 hours ride along stuff and then back to their air conditioned trailer in the Green Zone. Quite another thing entirely for a man to put himself right at the sharp end and directly share the risks of the soldiers fighting. And this with the added reality that there is not even an option to surrender, should the situation go all the way to shit. Not given Russia's stance on journalists "uninvited" on their occupied soil. Chris is doing an immense public service with this presentation and I applaud him for it.

To Chris and the Task & Purpose team. I'm glad that you guys have decided not only to take the time and invest the money to report on the situation in Ukraine, but you've actively taken up the risk to your lives for it. One thing that has been a sad and sobering theme among US vets is the complete lack of care and straight up disregard to the importance of Ukraine in the European and American security calculus. I hope that both this video and the sister video you posted will start to change the minds of both combat vets and active personnel as to the importance of a free Ukraine for our security. Beyond that, I hope it demonstrates that Ukraine is not just some corrupt backwater that's being used to funnel and launder money. Overall though, fantastic video! I hope to see more stuff like this in the future, as this is stuff the traditional media will never touch.

Just seeing the expression on your face in this video suggests it would be pretty somber, but I think it would be important to all the folks used to “video game warfare “ that Americans have seen in the past.

I was born in Mariupol, the town where that guy was held captivity. Pretty crazy hearing these stories, but this is well informed video for me to know what’s going on.
