Yellowstone has gotta be one of the most beautiful parks in the world and one of kind, the only place on Earth you'll see all of this wildlife together and it's an active super volcano to boot.
Was there in 2018 , snowmobile tour , a once in a lifetime , unforgettable experience , in fact, the highlight of our lives for me and my wife. I would recommend to anyone to do it if possible.

The Yellowstone herd has dwindled from 20,000 to only 3,000. Soon there will be no elk in Yellowstone. And that’s only 180 wolves doing that. We have 3,000 wolves in America from the original 12 that were released. Sickening. They are obliterating American wildlife.

The elk is such a majestic beast
I’ve been archery hunting elk since 1979…. They are something else. There were 20,000 elk in Yellowstone and now wolves have them down to only 3,000. It’s rare to even SEE an elk in the park now. Moose have fared even worse. Those big animals can’t run in deep snow and the wolf can run on TOP, making it easy for them. Our herds are getting decimated by the wolf now, which is protected in many states.

@@lukilsn I’ve been hunting since 77 for elk. Spent a full month each year for 15 years. Usually 2 or three weeks in wilderness areas all other years. I don’t even really understand the phrase “balanced” because it’s only as balanced as we steer it to be. If you think nature was more balanced 1,000 years ago you’d be wrong. Fires went out of control. No fire dept. Disease killed entire herds of every species when they overpopulate. Predators overpopulate and then wipe out entire species. THAT is what nature does left to its own. Turning wolves loose to breed at will and saying that’s a good thing is discounting all the peripheral damage done by them to other species. Wyoming and all western states have really been working on reintroduction of moose for 40 years and now they have these moose eating machines. If you spend time in the wilderness the carcasses are proof wolves are not good for anything but wolf lovers. They damage every other species.
The shifting dynamic between hunter and hunted inspired some reflection about my experience of life, the shifting from actor to acted upon back to actor again non-stop, the ever-unfolding, ever-changing human drama. Like this drama here, so beautiful, so deadly.

I was in Yellowstone a few months ago and our group observed a wolf pack chilling out in the snow waiting for a bison collapsed in the river to expire.

Those wolves were much faster and could have been on that elk. They were not even trying to engage at that point they were trying to take it for a long run so that it would be exhausted before the games begin.

Experience counts as a huge asset for survival. Taking a risk of getting cold, he succeeded in foiling wolves' attempt. Just for now. Advanced the season, everything frozen, less options, ....
There were 20,000 elk in Yellowstone and now wolves have them down to 3,000. Soon there will be no elk, and moose are doing even worse. Wolves were taken out for a reason, and America is finding out that reason. From the original 14 wolves there are now over 3,000. Females have 6 or 7 pups. It’s growing all the time and a wolf eats 16 to 24 elk annually. It was a bad idea.

I have no idea whatsoever about ecological ly proper figures of balance between prey & predator. Seemingly, you're much closer to the actual situation. Is it, say, in the process of adjustment or anything gone wrong? What is the local authority thinking about? Such a drastic decrease in number (over how long period?) is a serious source of concern. By the way, is the hunting by the wolf the sole, ultimate cause for sure?

Have you never watched a documentary? There's a rule against helping the wildlife. The wolves also have to eat. Its just unfortunate for the elk

There were only a few thousand elk at the turn of the century due to people shooting them to feed their family. Same with deer. The US only had 4 million deer then. All big game animals were dwindling. Something had to be done. Sportsmen got together in the 1920’s in America and passed the Pittman Robertson Act, which taxed all hunting related items with a special 12% hidden tax. Shells, guns, bows, camo coats, boots, hats, and everything else hunting related is taxed at 12%. Hunters also created fish and game agencies for each state, which sold licenses for game animals, made sure poaching was kept to a minimum, and studied game species in order to better understand how many could be harvested and still keep herds growing bigger year to year. Today there are 30 million deer and a million elk in the US. Virtually every big game animal except the Bison is fourishing due to the steps taken back then by people who loved the animals and wanted to have enough to hunt. At the same time the wolf and the grizzly were obliterated. They could not be lived with if numbers were to be increased in herds of moose and elk and deer, but mostly stock growers lost money to their depredations. Why people in the US are now allowing wolves and grizzlies to be put back is somewhat understandable but to protect their out of control breeding is unforgivable. One wolf eats 16 to 24 elk per year and at this point we have over 3,000 wolves, when the original target number was promised to be only “less than 300”. The hunter paid for the wildlife. Now the hunter has no say in the wolf? Just because beavers built a dam, diverting a river does not mean wolves “changed a river”. Beavers do that in areas without wolves very regularly. 3 thousand wolves times 20 elk is 60,000 elk per year, and to a hunter who PAYS for those elk it’s ridiculous to let them out out 7 pups every year with federal protection. Just a thought from someone who lives around them.
Try living in Ontario with 10,000 wolves. It’s like a waste land here. We’ll have to face mass extinctions again before these idiots ever realize that wolves kill animals that don’t need to die.

Hey you’re entitled to your opinion and I get it. People think wolves are doggies. But the crux of the issue is how much did you pay for American wildlife last year. I paid $4,800 dollars just in tags and fees and hunters contribute 3 billion to the US economy annually. Hunters don’t want out of control apex predator numbers. All the info I gave is easily fact checked and the only place you see alternative views on it are from pro wolf fevered people. Wolves in Wyoming killed 19 cow elk and left them lay. They call that “surplus killing” and it’s a thing they do. They are not good for the ecosystem because sheep and cattle and 340,000,000 humans are now in that ecosystem.

As for me, I'm a hunter living in wolf territory and have spent plenty of not only my money on tags, licenses, conservation and other related items, but also my time volunteering and raising funds at various sportsman's organizations for charity, conservation, and fellowship. I find plenty of predator sign even within 100 yards of my door, hear neighbors' reports of direct encounters, and I carry in the field even when not hunting in case of necessity for defense,
I see and hear plenty of comments like yours, firsthand, from a few 'sportsmen' like you and from a few (not all) livestock farmers. Their comments boil down to the same as yours: a load of lazy, selfish, greedy, lies and whining.
You lost, again, as soon as you tried to deflect from your falsehoods with your attempt at peepee measuring with an impotent 'I spend $X, how much do you?' fail.
Please educate yourself much better and get back to me maybe after a few years from now.
