    Today we dive into a fundamental problem in 3D printing. How to get the perfect first layer. The solution isn't always just to calibrate the first layer by adjusting the Z-axis. Sometimes there are other variables involved that complicate matters. As usual, we dive right in and tackle the problem from multiple angles until we come up with a solution.
    In this video, we use the following first layer file to help up check the bed leveling and calibrate the first layer at 9 different points: www.prusaprint...

    Best video about first layer problems on UA-cam. You are the only person I watched who shows how z axis distance should be and why is the problem occurs. I solved my issues. Thanks man.

    I made one of the biggest rookie mistakes when starting to print on glass. I never cleaned the surface for a week till my prints started not sticking and I at one point wanted to return the printer since I tried to fix everything I could think of. Simple alcohol and paper towel fixed it for me after 4 days of hair pulling

    3:30 - I've just realised I did the exact same thing, you're a life saver! I had printed a temp tower, dialed in the best looking temperature - hadn't spotted that afterwards adhesion has gone to hell, levelled the bed, got tearing and rippling. Other than the first layer trouble though I'm loving the results with PETG.

      Great video by the way, you've got a really clear and enthusiastic speaking voice.

      Glad to hear this helped! Sometimes it's little details we don't even think about. Last night I had a failed print and couldn't figure out what happened. Turns out I left my temperature settings set for PLA when I was printing PETG... DOH!

    Great video and tips. I clean my bed wit Windex for PETG. Put it on hot and and let it dry. when you are finished printing let the print cool off. When the print area has fingerprints on there then I use Alcohol and after Windex. I have a problem with waves in the first layer which I try to figure out.

      I do the same for PETG and it works really well. It’s a great tip for anyone taking the plunge on PETG!

    Another great video. Clear. Focused. Well cut and with great image overlays. Thank you for the effort and explaining preparation again. Am I right assuming you use the powder coated print bed sheet?

    Thank you sir! The first layer setting change got me going after 2 weeks of frustration. Still not there though, the base curled up and parts of the first layer still look like a birds nest but it held on for the full print. This is like algebra, your moving two variables to solve a problem, head height and temperature. You might put mile markers on your video saying 3:00 Leveling 4:00 First layer temp.... etc. Again thank you.

    Thank you for your clear and awesome video, I've experiencing the same dilemma in how the calibrate the best point for my MK3S first layer. I fully agree that using a flat and wide STL sample should be better than a small Prusa's square.

    Thank you man !!! 😀👍I was struggling with this issue like forever ,I raised the first layer temperature by 20c and the first layer became perfectly smouth even the bed adhesion is great. Could you guide me ? I have a prusa mk3s and Im wondering to switch it to a 0.6 nozzle for faster prints what are your thoughts ? Thanks again ! 🙂

    How do you compensate for adding a layer of painters tape to your bed?

    I am stuck... printed 5 parts and everything was as usual. But now n the sixt I have spots where the Filament want stick, it curls ap as it being laid down. Nothing was changed. Releveled cleaned played with all settings bottom layer looks like shit. Sidewinder x1, reinforce filashit, pla.

    Newbie here so I apologize if this is a dumb question. Around the 2 min mark you say that the glue stick is necessary for PLA, did you misspeak and actually mean that it's necessary for PETG?

    • @ALLYOURTECH3DP
      @ALLYOURTECH3DP  4 роки тому

      No, PETG adheres to the bed very well already. For the textured metal bed I use the glue stick mainly for PLA prints.

    • @stevenqueen416
      @stevenqueen416 4 роки тому

      When I heard him say that PLA doesn't stick to the bed and need to use a glue stick I shook my head saying this guy doesn't know what he is doing. Had my MK3 for over 2 years and have never had to use anything on the bed to get PLA to stick or PETG. Just cleaned it off with rubbing alcohol from time to time and material sticks.

    • @ALLYOURTECH3DP
      @ALLYOURTECH3DP  4 роки тому +1

      @@stevenqueen416 As with anything 3d printing related, YMMV. The textured sheet comes with a glue stick straight from Prusa, with instructions for using it to help with PLA adhesion. For most prints, alcohol is plenty, but PLA at times needs a little extra help, at least with the powdercoated textured sheet. I also like windex. If you need the glue, it's there, if you don't great.

    • @glorbusborbus480
      @glorbusborbus480 4 роки тому +1

      this is the exact opposite of Prusa's recommendation, they say iso alcohol is perfect for pla but too strong a bond for petg, which they say to use the glue stick or best of all, windex.

  • @moreorlessme

    You should probably clarify which type of sheet you are calibrating for. PLA on the smooth sheets definitely does NOT need glue stick.
