    Boy I miss these early videos, and vintage blocks, 😉 things didn’t have to be perfect, your Mickey Mouse watch, easy breezy uncomplicated manner, and vintage blocks! Ive learned so much over the years with your videos. . . Even Your cutting mat looks like mine. I Finally got a new one! Those were simpler days when You didn’t have to have the most expensive irons, gadget’s, perfect everything. You just needed a good pattern and cute fabric. It was fun watching this again. Like visiting an old friend,

    My Grandmother made Dresden Plate quilts. I remember them on our beds when I was a little girl. Grandma would make them from our worn out clothes. She even made one using old neck ties! Recently I made the baby quilt from one of your 4 part tutorials. It wasn't difficult at all, thanks to you! Now I am ready to start this Dresden Plate technique. Once again, you've made it look do-able! I can't wait to get started! Thank you Jenny for making these wonderful tutorials! I simply love them.

    I have been watching your tutorials for a long time now. They are all fantastic ... This one was up-loaded approximately 10 years ago. Love to go back and re-watch them. You were a great teacher back then and still are today. Don't ever stop teaching us all the things you have learned. A newbie or a seasoned quilter can always learn something new or how to do an old pattern an easier and quicker way. God bless you.

    You made the Dresden Plate look easy. I'm going to try it this weekend. My husband always wants me to sit and watch TV with him a few hours at night. I can do the handwork and make my hubby happy at the same time.

    My mother made a dresden plate quilt with 10 plates - she had no cutting tools - she used very large kitchen bowl and made a paper/cardboard template - it is still a cherish piece in my daughter's bedroom.

  • @philby611
    @philby611 8 років тому

    How times have changed!! I watched this today and was amazed that you hand-sewed the pieces. I've made a few Dresden plates and, except for one project with only two plates, have sewn all the pieces on the background with my sewing machine. I would never have the patience to hand-sew them on enough blocks for a whole quilt! and I like the look of using a blanket stitch around the edges.

    Nice video. I was watching someone doing a half of one of these, which I thought might be cute on a purse. They were doing decorative stitching on it, and I didn't catch how they put it together in the first place. You're a good instructor. Nice to listen to. Thanks !

    YEARS ago I inherited a pre-cut fabric quilt kit. I didn't know at the time it was a Dresden Plate quilt. I started with sewing all the "petals" together then stopped because there were no instructions! Now I know what to do with it!! And it will be a queen size quilt for my grandson soon to be on his way to college.

    That was a really awesome tutorial! I'm just beginning to do quilts that aren't just simple squares, and the Dresden plate did intimidate me. However, the plate that I have is a little different, and I'm still not sure how to use it. It's got all of the shapes on one template, and it's kinda like a stencil...

    I would use black so you get the effect of the stippling. You need to be really adept at stippling to use white. Then, there is always monofilament. I don't advise this as after years of use some of it breaks. I know as I just inherited the quilt I made my mom almost 20 years ago. I need to quilt it over again in places. Good luck Shannon.

    Love this. Another trick is to use fuse-able web on the circle. Place right side of circle to the sticky side of the web (it will be on outside when you turn right side out. Draw a circle on the fuse-able, sew around circle. Cut slit in fuse-able, turn right sides out. Now you can iron the circle with fuse-able to the Dresden plate. No cutting or hand sewing.

    Thank you! Thank You!...for this tutorial. I have been in love with the dresden plate pattern, since my Aunt made me a darling coverlet, for my bed, when I was in high school many years ago. I have always wanted to try to make one myself, but never had the nerve, to do it, until I saw this video, and the cool little tool, you are using. I had to order one, and now I am waiting for it to arrive.
    I tried to do this, but I discovered that more cutting needs to be done to get those little blades to look like Jenny's, in the video, because when you put your template, on the fabric, as shown, in the video, there is extra fabric off to the side, because of the way the template lays, so there are more than just two cuts, at least that is the way it appears to me.
