Heyya ! @AtlasBenighted Thanks for the reaction to this soundtrack, it’s from one of my favourite stories told in any medium generally. So I wanted to share some way it’s soundtracks a bit more to an ACTUAL composer and have it be more recognised as if it wasn’t already 😅😅 Thank you and much love for this reaction and breakdown !! ❤️
Well the plot isn't really that insane unless you read the side materials. Otherwise it's fairly simple as far as stories go if we just use the games events and story only.
@@trevorveillette8415 I don't really agree, since the second play through (B ending/route) recontextualizes basically everything. I can't think of many games where something like that happens. Even more is recontextualized and expanded on on the third run. Not to mention how of one of the endings does something almost completely unheard of in a game.
@@AstraProc automata does this but better. Replicants plot isnt good unless you read side materials. Otherwise it's a basic save the princess story. Replicant as just the game, is basically Mario but if Mario discovered goombas and koopas were people too. It's basic as shite. Add on the lore, then the story gets good. But automatas story is still better. So the recontextualization isn't really anything special because automata does it too, and better especially since route C recontextualizes all of route A and B with just 1 conversation/reveal. And route C is actually new story, and the best part of automata. Replicant route B is a slog because nothing is new for gameplay, you play the same character, and the game now pads its time with reading segments. Now I love the reading segments, but having that vs actually new story, just isn't even a comparison. It's objectively worse to have something like replicants reading segments than to have automatas route C new story. And route C of replicant is just irrelevant and a waste of time. Only reason it's worth it is to get ending E.
@@AstraProc and while replicant is (almost) unique for a game as far as story structure and endings go, automata exists and does it better. Replicant lives in its sequels shadow and always will since automata took everything it did and improved it. Replicants overall story is amazing compared to the majority of games, but when it's living in the shadow of its own sequel, I just can't credit it as having an amazing story without mentioning that automatas is better and that replicants "amazing" story is locked behind side materials.
@@trevorveillette8415 I don’t know what the hell version of Replicant you played for you to say it’s story isn’t amazing and that Automata’s was better. Automata’s story serves an entirely different purpose to Replicant’s. Whereas Replicant is a deeply personal and emotionally gripping story that I and many others view as unmatched in the feelings it captures, Automata is a much more philosophical and thoughtful tale that focuses more on the message it’s telling than the personal story of the characters in it. As a result, the main story of Automata isn’t nearly as impactful for it’s personal story, but rather for the beautiful message it ends up delivering in the final ending. But in no way is it a better story, because they both serve different purposes. Automata’s personal moments are all hidden away in sidequests, while it’s main story is, for the most part, rather flat on getting you emotionally invested in the characters. I never felt for 9S, nor Adam and Eve, nearly as much as I did for Nier and Shadowlord. How one feels about the MAIN protagonist and villains is vastly important, and Automata did not nail that whatsoever. Simply because that’s not what it needed to do. It succeeded at what it sought out to do, and it’s a masterpiece for it, but it is not a better personal story than Replicant.
It's crazy to hear a composer without playing the game nail some points of the importance of some key things involving the story without knowing the story lmao. Love this piece and it's one of my most played game osts I listen to. Literally catch myself humming this tune and then I reminisce on the story that is so sad but so good.
I knew you’d love this because of that organ! The first version is the Shadowlord’s castle - *memory* version. The more battle like is the OG one. Which plays in, of course, a boss battle. The organ, vocals and the atmosphere makes me ascend. This game is one of a kind, an absolute masterpiece of an experience. And you were right about the Shadowlord, he is absolutely highly important for the story. And the truth to who he is….tragic. You should react to HIS theme, simply Shadowlord. You know how Gwyn’s theme sound consistently sad? Well, Shadowlord’s theme is able to keep the grief and yet add action tone to it. Great reaction as always! Also, that cover was sick.
Listen to the original Shadowlord theme and the new one, and do a comparison reaction to it. They're both good in their respective ways, but convey a different sense of heavy feeling
Its like a prayer to the Shadowlord. Humanity praying he 'works', he succeds. I guess thats why it also has this sad, desperate quality to it. He fails.
The entire NieR Replicant soundtrack is absolutely beautiful and I'd love for you to take a look at Shadowlord. Just know that the original game release's soundtrack is a bit different from the rerelease from 2 years ago. I'd argue the original is a bit more raw and primal while the rerelease is more refined. Personally I prefer the original but they're both great soundtracks.
I love how the pacing and tempo of the song really turns what would ordinarily be a really calming and tranquil song into an extremely high octane, dangerous, track with the slightest hint of a desperation. a fanaticism even
Thanks for another great NieR reaction! The original version of this song is actually my favorite NieR OST of all time, and I think this new Replicant version is pretty solid too.
Unfortunately replicants music isn't dynamic like automatas. Unless you mean his edit cuts where he talks between the song. Then I think that's fine since the music splits itself.

More NieR songs please. NieR series OST's are masterpieces
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it.
Nier Gestalt - Emile Karma.

It's honestly a breathtaking piece. The greatest one in the NieR franchise imo, which already says A LOT...
This game has one of the best osts I've ever heard, you should really check them out if you haven't. Especially "Song of the Ancients"
He already has. Look it up.
@@mako25lp Ohh I see, it was 2 years ago so I didn't know cuz I started watching recently
Song of the Ancients (Fate) is one of the best songs I have ever heard in my life. I enjoyed Ver 1.22 over the original Replicants OST.
This track in particular is very special for me!
Amazing video!
Thank you so much!
LFG more nier content from the goat

Since u has entered Shadowlord's Castle, how about reacting Shadowlord too?
Yo, you should definitely check out the Shadowlord track. It's simply amazing

i like the original versions of the songs better than the remakes :(
The original version is still the best ! You should react to it !

Gods Bound by Rules, the OG version
Needs reaction
At some point
