    I have played with shirataki and I find the best method is to thoroughly rinse in hot water in a strainer, then microwave for two minutes. After that, the odd flavor almost vanishes and the texture is good for whatever. They work best in broth dishes like ramen, since they absorb the flavor and become delicious. I would like them even off a diet.

    when you can't eat pasta anymore, and you have deprived yourself of wheat or egg noodles, these are just fine with any sauce or stirfry. These are phenomenal when prepared in an Asian style sauce or broth. They are less great when trying to cook them in an Italian preparation or in a cream sauce. I made amazing Pad Thai with these! One thing to save you time, they do not need to be boiled. All you have to do is rinse well, dry in a towel, cut them if they are super long and dry fry. Done! They may not look like much but 1/2 of one of those bags along with a protein and veg is incredibly filling. Word of caution, drink water before or after eating these. They are full of fiber so water is crucial and that's why they cause some people digestive issues. Also, they are a real choking hazard for people that have any sort of esophageal issue. Don't feed these to children! Great video. You're awesome!

    I just tried these noodles, I made fettuccine noodles and my Keto version of a Alfredo sauce, I added Argentinian red shrimp that had been cooked with Cajun seasoning and lime juice in a skillet, and I love them! These Noodles save my life Cause I have to stay on this meal plan, I’m about to do a rice dish and a spaghetti dish next. I ordered them online from Amazon miracle noodles here is my preparation:
    TIP: I let my noodles drip dry in the colander so less water wham I pan dry them - makes them done quicker and I like the taste.
    TIP: I always season my pasta I don’t just add salt, I add chicken bouillon cube or if I don’t have that just garlic salt and salt maybe a little cumin and that’s it, onion salt if I have it, I add to taste and when I taste the water and if I like the taste, has kind of good flavor that’s what I boil my noodles in. Been doing that to my regular pasta noodles for years because it adds a little bit of flavor that’s yummy. I love the way these noodles turned out another tip when they get cold they get squishy and I prefer them firm So I recommend you eat them WARM or hot, another
    TIP: they were a little bit too long for me, I don’t like to cut my noodle with my teeth, the noodle texture is great for me but I do not like to have to cut them with my front teeth it’s just a personal thing so I cut them (I just grab the bunch and make one cut with kitchen shears.) before I prepare them. DELICIOUSNESS

    Thanks Wes, and everyone for their awesome tips and tricks to cooking these noodles. I made them last night, with a marinara and Italian chicken sausage sauce, topped with quattro formaggio cheese. (All ingredients were purchased at Trader Joe's). The turnout was fantastic! How I did it. I bought the Nasoya spaghetti noodles. Opened the package over my colander in cool running water. Rinsed well. Then transferred to a bowl with apple cider vinegar and lemon juice. I let it set for a few minutes. And thoroughly rinsed again. I patted out excess water with paper towels and dry fried. When they appeared fairly done, I added dry oregano and basil, garlic, salt, pepper and a little basil olive oil. And heated for a few mins. Done. I took out the noodles, topped with my marinara meat sauce, and served. The texture and turn out was better than I expected! Really good. I think I was only successful for the first time because of this video and the other input from viewers. Thanks Keto community!

    Here on the West Coast of Canada, we have a brand of Konjac noodles called "Luvina". It comes in a 400 gram (about 0.9 of a pound) package that contains 2 sealed pouches. It doesn't need refrigeration. I'm really glad that this is what was available to us, because this brand doesn't have any of the smell or taste issues of these ones you tested. When you open them to drain, they have a very slight odour, but nothing like you're describing.
    I rinse them for maybe 30 seconds, (no salt) and then boil them like pasta for 5-7 minutes. They have a bit more of a springy texture than wheat pasta, but other than that, they are basically "pasta like".
    My Asian Wife absolutely loves them, and no longer cares that she can't eat white rice any more, so that should tell you something.
    Take note that, although the serving size is small, it is extremely FILLING! I eat a little less than my share of the pouch (100 grams), otherwise I get bloating from the high fibre content, and I am absolutely stuffed! My wife doesn't experience the bloating, even though she's 98 lbs to my 170 so (obviously), it affects some people this way and not others.
    Anyway, if you're able to get a hold of this brand, give it a try. It comes in different shapes.like rice and penne, and we've tried them all, but find that the spaghetti is the best for texture. I even use it with my homemade curry instead of rice, and it's excellent.

    Hello, I really enjoy your videos.
    I'm writing from Japan. Konjac noodles here are ALWAYS found in the refrigerated section. We usually rinse them, cut them if necessary, and then boil. This is the first I've heard of pan frying, but I'm interested to try it. We usually just simmer in a flavorful broth. It picks up the flavor very well. If you are doing a one pot meal, be careful to not let it touch meat if you cook them together, it will make the meat touch. I always layer a vegetable between the konjac and the meat.
    Because it is so high in fiber and low in calories, it has been used for a long time here as a diet food. I sometimes add it to my smoothies, once chopped up in the blender it is unnoticeable.
    Keep up the good work

      Are they called konjac in Japan, or is there a different name? I'm curious about the pronunciation of the word. Wikipedia and the encyclopedia say it's "kon-YACK" but some people say it's pronounced "kon-JACK." Which is correct, or is it called something else entirely?

    • @MidoriNekoChan
      @MidoriNekoChan 7 років тому +26

      Oops! That should have been it will make the meat tough. Here it's pronounced konnyaku as Japanese always ends in a vowel except for n. Generally you can buy it here as noodles or in blocks. We have the white kind, or a gray/brown kind due to hijiki seaweed being added for higher mineral content.

      I just found these noodles recently and love them!!! I especially like that they are flavorless until you put sauce on them then they add so much to the dish because the taste of the noodle never distracts from the taste of the rest of the ingredients yet you still have the noodle that gives body to the dish. As someone whos partially italian pasta is the hardest thing for me to give up on a keto lifestyle. I actually found these my 1st week into keto, THANK GOD! Ive had pretty good success with them with boiling them with a little vinegar or citrus juice in the water. I've tried it without the
    vinegar/citrus and they were still pretty unpleasant to me. I think these really do their best with asian dishes.

    I remember the very first time I prepared Shiratake noodles with my low carb version of TGIFriday's Cajun Chicken and Shrimp Alfredo Sauce. I was SO LOOKING FORWARD to this dish because it used to be my "go to" dish whenever my husband and I took the family to dinner. The product I used was the second variety of tofu-shiratake noodles you prepared in your video (can't recall the name right at the moment) I have no earthly idea what I did wrong because I am pretty sure I followed the directions implicitly, but the texture reminded me of what it would taste like to shred a common kitchen sponge and sauce it before eating. My poor husband ate it and commented that it was chewy but not that bad. I was MAD (NOT at him...) but because I felt it was a HUGE WASTE of sauce. Thankfully, someone turned me on to Miracle Noodles so I gave the angel hair pasta variety a try and was NOT disappointed. Now, let's be honest....these Shiratake noodles, in no way, replace traditional pasta, but they are NICE way to enjoy an Italian inspired sauce! They sort of remind me of cooked bean sprouts...something I can live with as a pasta replacement. My husband liked them and I LOVE THEM!

    My grocery store has the Pasta Zero, so I tried it! Pretty awesome! If you rinse them for 10 min in cold water, and then microwave them (or boil) in water for 5 min, maybe mix in garlic powder, if you like. Strain them, and then prepare them in a nice Pasta dish with tomato sauce, you can't tell difference! Plus, they fill you up fast so you won't be hungry! A little extra prep saves you on carbs!

    I use Miracle noodles. My go-to recipe with these noodles is Chicken Alfredo. I've found it annoying that they Clump together and when you try to eat it, it comes out with a huge string of noodles. The way I cope with this is to use kitchen scissors to cut the clump of noodles as they are drying in the fry pan. As usual with all low-carb recipes they just aren't the same as full carb. But if I wanted the same I'd be 70 pounds fatter.

    I used the pasta zero in making homemade keto pad thai and I can't stress the importance of boiling with salted water and pan frying ON HIGH heat for longer than recommended because my first batch came out with the consistency of earthworms. After trying again with this in mind it came out better and adding more chopped peanut to the pad thai helps hide more of the offness of texture. The egg, chicken or tofu, and sauce make it really delectable.

    I just tried the Miracle Noodles and they are very neutral tasting and have the right feel when eating them. They are great for a stir fry! I use these for a pasta substitute, as well as zukes and spaghetti squashm(have for years as I live in an urban area and get them at my favorite Korean market). I use them all in different cuisines, but these do take less time. They're great for a quick meal. Spaghetti squash has a teeny bit of sweetness to it, which works great for some things (i.e. a brown butter sage sauce). Generally speaking, as you've shown, these noodles do take on the flavors of sauces or soups. For me they're a winner. I thought I'd struck gold when I "discovered them" years back. Thanks so much for this YT channel. It's lovely.

    I only use Shirataki noodles to replace rice "glass noodles" with Asian food (I'm stuck using what they have at the local Chinese grocery). I find they replicate that texture well. When I want Italian pasta I just do eggplant cut into noodles, stir fried with salt, olive oil and a pinch of garlic powder and rosemary. It tastes... like eggplant, but eggplant goes well with most pasta recipes. But I'm so glad you did this video; I had no idea about the dry roasting!

      Good observation! These were originally created as a ramen substitute, so as you perceptively noticed, a nice bowl of broth is where they’ll likely taste the most truest to form. I suspect that a constant soaking in hot broth should reduce the firm, slightly rubbery, texture. The texture is my only slight criticism of this product, but it’s minor, and overall they’re not that bad. I’ve never had them in soup, but your mention here is inspiration to give that a try; im thinking a miso based bone broth with a boiled egg, green onion, and cilantro. Cheers!

      Hey Krista! Another Nova Scotian Ketonian here. Are you in the HRM? Do you have an insider scoop on the best places to find keto-friendly foods? I live in Cole Harbour and there are not a whole lot of low-carb options there (unless I am glossing over something). Thanks!

      Hey there!! Yes I'm in Dartmouth (woodlawn area, not far from you!) To be honest I keep it pretty simple but I do order stuff online from lowcarbcanada. or lowcarbgrocery. BUT I did just download an awesome keto app, free btw, called Senza, its fantastic! Really easy for logging meals etc, has some recipes & sets up your macros for you. One feature that I really love is a restaurant option that brings up a map around where you are with every restaurant and how many low carb options they have. You can then click on each one & actually see what the choices are. Some are simply a hamburger with no bun like at Burger king but its still really awesome! Other than that I basically just eat a lot of meats & veggies. lol

    • @nicolemwilcox
      @nicolemwilcox 7 років тому +1

      That's great! Thanks for the app recommendation. I use myFitnessPal but just the free version as I am loathe to pay for a subscription just so I can manually set my Macros. I have been considering ordering from those sites, just haven't had a need just yet but I was looking at some of the sweetners available because I really hate stevia. I make a lot of Keto Connect recipes and I just downloaded the Total Keto Diet App from the tasteaholics.com couple if you wanted to take a look-see. Keep up with Keto! The more of us there are in the HRM the easier it will get eating this way :D

    I'm so glad you did this review. My friend just told me today that she had some for the first time in an alfredo sauce but wasn't told they were low carb until after dinner. She didn't really notice the difference other than a slight texture variation. I think I will try a few tips that are given in the comments, especially adding the lemon. I don't know how I feel about the boil/not boil thing. Suggestion is not to ever boil it as it sort of dissolves (I kinda like it semi-dissolved too).

    I've just discovered these. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in January 2021. This was like a gun to my head so I immediately went on a very low carb, low sugar eating programme and I have amazingly reversed my diabetes and lost nearly 28 lbs since. The brand I use in the UK is 'bare naked'. It's in the dry food section of the supermarket. It's a no fuss brand, very little odour, just a little rinse and I add it to homemade bolognese sauce or any other dish. I dont dry fry them. Totally unnecessary. Or heat them in the microwave. Very, very easy and tasty

  • @paulinehunt4069
    @paulinehunt4069 3 роки тому +1

    Okay. Found you because I had just purchase a package of the tofu noodles same as you have. Was nervous about trying. I am sensitive about smells and textures. So I rinsed and boilded 3 mins. While heating nonstick pan. Drained and threw into heated pan. I did how ever use powdered garlic sprinkled on noodles (would have used fresh garlic but did not have it) cooked until noise started. Tried some with melted butter and hot sauce. Then I had made sauce with peppers onions and mushrooms and sausage.
    Got to tell you. I have been on Keto for 4 years. Lost approx 75 lbs. Have kept it off. But have missed my pasta (really missed it)! No lie I was thrilled when I ate this. Nothing will ever be pasta but this came closer than any thing I have tried. I did not smell just rinsed and proceeded. For me it would have been off putting if they had smelled bad. Not sure when I would have tried them if it was not for you. Just a note. I think as long as what ever spices your going to use, I may put them on at what I call the stir-fry stage as long as they are dry spices. Also I did not have an after taste. Will be trying the lower carb brand next. As far as texture, different but I love my pasta a little under done. My brother uses zucchini. Too mushy for me. Cannot thank you enough. With out you I may have missed out.

    Hey Wes, I was told that in order to make them taste better and smell better you need to rinse the noodles very well 3 or 4 times. Then lay them out on a tray and let them drip-dry for at least an hour and then transfer the noodles to a glass bowl. it cannot be anything but a glass bowl as plastic or metal sometimes add to the strange flavor of the shirataki noodles.
    (If whatever these noodles are packed in can absorb the taste of plastic or metal, I'm personally not sure if I would want to eat them anyway) Then you need to add acid of some type to them. I believe I would go for lemon juice, but lime juice, apple cider vinegar, or white vinegar all work too. I do know that vinegar kills odors. Leave the noodles in the acid for about 2 hours in the refrigerator and then take them out and rinse them one final time. Then dry them out by putting them in a pan and dry cooking them. That should remove the smell of the weird liquid they are packed in. Konjac root thins out and line the intestines and keeps the digestion of carbs from occurring.

    I bought Organic Well Lean kojac noodles on amazon. They got the best reviews. I made a traditional beef spaghetti sauce to try them out for dinner. My husband loved them. I still miss pasta but when I get to my goal weight I am celebrating with the real deal😊

    I love shirataki noodles, and I just rinse them and eat. I bet they taste even better with the boiling and dry frying. Thanks for the info! I really wonder why the miracle noodles don't need to be refridgerated?? Very strange.

      Boiling for 3-5 minutes removed the fishy smell. Dry frying adheres the sauce better for flavor. I make pad thai, curried shrimp, and Vietnamese Pho! Love the creativity without the carbs! 😁

    I eat low Carb Organic Edamame pasta occasionally. But I recently found shirataki noodles here locally at an Asian market. No fish smell at all and made a great stir fry. I think once you find the ones you like, you will enjoy them. Awesome video man, new SUB from me. Cheers!

    I used these for the Laksa recipe from Marion's Kitchen, as long as you've rinsed down very well and cooked for the last 5-10 mins in the soup it worked pretty well, texture is a bit odd but for that dish the flavor worked quite well.

    Try Healthy Noodle by Kibun. I made these last night mixed along with some zoodles and some keto friendly Alfredo and a bit of my red sauce. They have zero odor and are a sturdier texture than the other brands, they can be hot or cold. 25 cal/4 oz serving. I bought them at Costco. Going to stock up, such a nice surprise. P.S. I was able to use oil in pan with these. You need to rinse but not to remove any fishy smell. These are a serious keeper.

    I did not know about all this prep work! I have had them quite a few times. I rinse them under cold water, but I just tossed them in a skillet with some EVO and garlic. I make a low carb alfredo sauce and then top with sauteed shrimp. I will have to try them your way! In fact, I am making this tonight, so I will see if there is a difference. They do have that earthy taste you talked about, but I don't notice it that much after making it the way I have been cooking it for the past 3 years. I just found you on here a few days ago and have really enjoyed watching you cook! You are funny and informative too! Keep up the great work!

    I had read about these noodles, bought some and was looking for a good instructional video...lo and behold I found you!!!! (Love your sense of humor and you are soooo entertaining...ended up watching 4 or 5 more of your videos...lol)....But I digress...after watching your tutorial I opened my noodles (in a wet package, which I DID NOT SMELL THANK YOU VERY MUCH, especially after seeing your "ewww this stinks" face), rinsed them well under running water for 3 minutes (I live in Vienna Austria, no water rationing...yet), boiled, dry roasted and put them together with my homemade lo mein recipe and OMG they were amazing!!! I think they were even better than the Chinese noodles I normally cook. Just as easy, maybe even more so...I cooked everything in one pan (wok), boiled my noodles first, strained then pan fried them in same wok, set them aside, cooked the rest of the ingredients each in same wok, then put everything back together...easy peasy...tasted great and love that the noodles have no flavor until they absorb the sauce, made 2 servings and what was the best is they are filling without the gilt or bloat (noodles/bread/carbs all blow me up like the Pillsbury dough boy...not a pretty sight) Thanks for the great video and look forward to more :)

      Thanks so much, Dandy! I also think these really excel in Asian dishes. Hopefully you didn’t experience the stomach upset some people do. Apparently, they’re referred to as “the broom of the colon” in Japan! :-)

      @@HighfalutinLowCarb You are most welcome! I agree, the noodles are wonderful in the dishes because of their lack of taste until they receive the sauce, there is no competing noodle taste, only the lovely tastes of the ingredients. It's so refreshing to watch you :) While I love where I live (in Austria), I do miss good ol' boys; and you, my dear, remind me of some of the best! In answer to the gastric issues, fortunately, they have not caused me any problems and actually eaten them in 4 meals the past week without any stomach or colon unrest...YAY ME!!!

    Hi, I just found you a few days ago and subscribed. I have to tell you I literally just bought a 7oz bag of the Miracle Noodle brand, angel hair, and ate them last night for the FIRST time. I had put it off for years because of everyone complaining about the fishy smell, and with me not liking any kind of seafood I knew that would turn me off. This was my experience. Shocker #1 ***I smelled NOTHING, nothing at all, and believe me, if there had been a fish odor I would have smelled it. 2***- I turned burner on medium/low and placed a ceramic skillet on it to warm it up, 3*** while pan was warming I rinsed them in a strainer for about 20 seconds... NOT FOREVER...LOL, 4***Shook the strainer a few times to get as much water off as possible and put them in the now pretty hot pan. 5*** Turned the pan to Low. 6***using tongs I moved them around and spread them out and within 5 minutes they were completely dry! Viola! After that was done I poured them onto a serving platter and put some bacon grease back in the skillet to saute onion and peppers, added galic, salt, and pepper, when they were softened I added a Lucini Organic no sugar added spaghetti sauce. I love this stuff! 35 calories and 3 net carbs for 1/2 cup!, and if you like your sauce a little sweeter add little Swerve or fav sweetener substitute. Once The sauce was hot I poured it over the Shirataki noodles and sprinkled 1/4 cup of Parmesan, and 1/2 cup Mozzarella over it. O-M-G!...As long as you can get past the fact that they are kind of a clear, translucent noodle, I tasted NO difference. I was in Heaven. As a side note: They were a bit "rubbery", to me it wasn't really all that noticeable. But I know one channel I watch said to boil them for 2 minutes then drain and add to hot pan for "dry Pan Method". I may try that next time just to see if there is a major difference. All I can say is I could kick myself for not trying these long ago! And now I am gonna try the miracle noodle "Rice" version. Take Care ~ Beth Ann
