Lmao, how are you paying that much for wheels? Costco in Australia does balance and rotation all in one go for $30 AUD 🤣🤣🤣🤣. You just started listing wheel service that has to be done for every car lmao. Like, over half of this is just tyres, so yes, it is a low-service vehicle. You can also just buy the cabin air filters for $30 AUD here for 2 and replace them yourself. It’s an air filter, bro. How can you not replace that yourself? And if you want to not have smelly air filters, just use recirculating air or close them when it starts raining. There's a slight design issue that lets a little bit of water in when you have the air open, so if you just manually switch it to air recirculation, you won't have that issue either.
@rohanjosem read small print or even better try to rotate and align wheels at Costco. It most likely says front wheel alignment only. In addition, tesla does not have a dedicated alignment adjusting bolts in the rear. Because of that, it is more labour intensive for a mechanic hence many wheel alignment shops will charge much more or just decline the job. .there is a very good reason tesla service center charges £320 for all wheels alignment service in UK Cabin filter is not as easy to replace as on the ICE car by popping the bonnet lid, clipping off plastic cover and replacing within 10min. For tesla, you need to do some yoga gymnastics to get your hands under the dash area, wrestle with plastic trim clips and lights clips / wires. Not a hard job but 30min plus of your time or more.
@@yurikislytsia8596 Yeah, I mean I've already done air filter and speaker unlocks for my RWD. It's not all that difficult. Also, how often do you realistically need an alignment? How bad are the roads/potholes in the UK? I've had this car for 3 years and haven't had any signs that indicate it needs an alignment. It drives perfectly straight, and there is no uneven wear or any sort of handling issue. I haven’t done a single alignment yet. Costco only does balance and rotation. I mean, if your car is driving straight and there is no wear difference, you don't need to be doing an alignment.
@rohanjosem due to a very high torque, suspension bushings wear off. This causes uneven tyre wear especially in the rear axel with big negative rear camber. My model 3 has it. Rotation compensates to an extent. UK roads are very bumby and neglected as local authority has no money to maintain them
Coming up on 3 years of ownership of 2019 M3, 37k miles. Replaced the cabin filters myself and had the local tire store replace 4 tires. Other than that, no additional services. Very hesitant to take the car to a Tesla service center as they had my 2021 MY for about a month to fix some delivery damage. So yes, avoid Tesla service if you can unless it is their mobile service.
The issue with service needed, only when an issue is identified, is most likely such a repair is going to be much more expensive, without any preventative maintenance. If you an informed consumer, will already know, that Tesla has the same fluids, except the engine oil, such as coolant, refridgerant, wiper, hydraulic brake, gear oil. It even has a rubber belt on steering motor🤔. One difference is the longer flush interval, minimal wear on brakes etc. The brake fluid undergoes lesser temperature rise, as well as fixed gear transmission oil. But eventually any motor oil will degrade, coolant will leak. Also, the coolant can be viewed as the new engine oil, since it could be catastropic, if a burst in coolant lines is not remedied shortly. Battery pack is the new engine, and its serviceability comparitively is zero(esp. With newer 4680 structural battery packs). If anything prematurely fails with battery pack, it will be a big ticket service item, beyond 100K warranty. So, Teslas are not maintenance exempt, just can tolerate more lax service schedule, until warranty expires at 120K. Just some 💭
My brand new (1 week old) 2022 model 3 RWD completely shutdown tonight and left my family stranded in Highpoint shopping centre. I have to leave the car there as Tesla roadside assistance people (in the US) could not arrange a tow truck as I was in under cover car park with 2.3m clearance. Need to call back tomorrow but not holding any hope due to weekend. Hope the car is not vandalised tonight.
Oh my god ! That is awful ! So sorry to hear that. Please let me know how you go today, would be very interested to know what happened to your car. Thanks, and good luck.
@@RyanCowan I am happy to say that after getting no help from Tesla roadside assistance, I have "fixed" my M3 after researching and watch youtube videos. For whatever reason the main computer think that the electrical system power was reduced and shut down the car and everything. So I had no access to the car, key card didn't work and the car is just like a brick. so I left the car there, went home and RTFM and watched UA-cam. After thinking that even if I get the car towed to the Service Centre how the technician can get in? There must be a way for them to open the car. it turns out that yes - there is a way to open the frunk and "jump start" the M3 by opening up the tow eye cover and connecting external 12v power source to the 2 wires hanging out from the the tow eye opening. As soon as I did that the frunk opened and the car spring to live. Head lights on, screen on, and most importantly I can put it on Drive/Reverse. I drove home without any issue and the rest is history. Hope that it won't happen again during the week when we drive it. I got an appointment booked for the Service Centre to look at the alerts on the Tesla app though. Sorry for the long comment but I think it would be good for all OZ Tesla owners to know how to reboot their car when something like this happens. :-)

Yes, Tesla customer service is a SERIOUS downgrade from Audi. Let me say this again - Tesla CS in Los Angeles is a bit like going to Toyota (I imagine). However, after watching this video, I don’t expect to need to go often. There was a dead pixel on my screen when I first got the car so I made an appointment to have it replaced (luckily, it was replaced). They didn’t have loaner cars so I was given $100 in Uber credit per day. After like the 3rd or 4th (or 5th?? I can’t remember but it seemed like forever) day however, taking Uber gets old! Messaging the CS rep assigned to my car via the app was amazing though!
Taking collection of my first EV next Saturday, M3 Highland after spending 8 hours carpooling in one. I was a Tesla and EV hater. I had all my questions lined up and ready to tear shreds into the ongoing costs vs an ICE car. "So how much higher is your power bill now?" "Umm... About 1/4 of my monthly petrol bill" "Okay then... How much do services cost and how often do you have to do them?" "Service? Ehhh... Maybe about $200 once every 2 years?" Hearing this, right after picking up my Subie Forester from a service where I had just dropped $600.... It cut me deep. Then I started the Novated Lease enquiries and here I am... Anyone wanna buy a Forester? HAHAHAHAHAHA
I've had brilliant dealings with my service center which is something I can't say about every other ICE car center I've ever had to deal with as a female!
I do have a question? When should one replace the battery coolant? I have. 2019 M3D no issues at all but the coolant will degrade I believe after so many years. Can someone advise ?
I scheduled my first service haven't even gone to the play and the app says 356 buck because i said the door out of alignment and there is a rattle. soooooo wtf? Charging me for a warranty issue?
Hello there, Hiw about break caliper lublications? I've heard that need to be done every 20k km Is that right? If yes, how much you paid for that service? Thanks
Excellent video Ryan! Driving my first EV Tesla M3H, 6K on the clock, should I request a Service Check for Rotation, etc at 10K ? Unfortunately, they don't seem to tell you therefore at a loss.
Thanks mate and congrats on the new 3 (such a beautiful car!) .. I wouldn't bother about booking in 10k service check unless you feel compelled to do so. It seems from my experience they have stopped encouraging it due to it not being needed. We took our Model Y in for 10k service and everything was fine, nothing needed to be done.
Just ran out of battery had to wait on tow $175 cheapest tgen had to buy a jumpstarter just to jump to get it to charge at the supercharger …. Not enough chargers and teslas do not go the mile range they claim …battery runs out quick . This is a car for someone who stays close to home
So that means 10K KILOMETERS IA ROUGHLY a little over 6K miles. Avg person drives 14,263 miles a year in the US. So if the service that he suggests is every 10M KILOMETERS AT 80$, that's roughly 160 a year for that maintainance.
What nonsense- I have 50,000 miles on my model 3 snd have pig 1 gallon of washer fluid and one set of tires at 28,000 miles on it. NOTHING ELSE. I have never had that experience with BMW, Porsche of Mercedes. Remarkable. 👍👍😊
I would highly recommend steering clear of a Tesla. The product is great, but after purchase customer support is horrible. Check out your local better business bureau and it’s more than likely a F or they don’t participate in the BBB. I had to wait 2 weeks for a leaky 12v battery to come in. When I addressed the issue was told over a dozen, I mean literally a dozen that it was being escalated. We have 2 Teslas in our family and I will never purchase a car where you have to do everything through an app and can’t go and buy over the counter parts like a BATTERY. Back to Honda and Toyota. Musk instead of trying to solve the world’s issues by going to space , how about you solve issues the common people have.
Most Tesla owners think they are car experts but most of them are clueless. None of them ever mention WHEEL BEARINGS. Tesla mechanics charge up to $:320/hr (Australian), which is absolutely absurd, this information was supplied to me by members of the Tesla owners group on Facebook.
Hi Ryan. I have been wondering the same things you just discussed. I have had my M3 LR for 6 months and just clocking over 10,000km. We are going on a road trip next month so might talk to Tesla to see if I need anything looked at. Henny
🤔All I’ve known are combustion engines and these Tesla’s are mind blowing. The amount of money I’m throwing into a used car is insane, non-stop money pit🤷🏾♂️
Tesla’s are quite sensitive in their suspension, regular alignments are a good investment. Don’t bother going to a Tesla service center, their service is &@%# and they do a bad job on repairs, they don’t test drive your car afterwards even. Working quick is everything there, even if the repair is bad. Another UA-camr called AT-Zimmermann can tell you all about it. Find a good local garage who has had their mechanics trained and with the proper certificates for working on EV’s. I realize that this video is two years old, but Tesla hasn’t changed in their service department in those years.
Probably he doesn’t know, I got a 2021 model 3 and I didn’t knew until see a video about it few days ago. And when I called tesla in Manchester to ask about it they told me that probably never need to be changed. I understand your thought about false claims but not everyone is the same 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Thanks mate ! Yeah I actually should’ve mentioned this in the video .. legacy auto stitching people up with their new ev’s “requiring” servicing. So silly !
@@RyanCowan EVs with fixed servicing intervals is such and old way of thinking. When we did our first drive of the Model 3 in Melbourne they just said, " yeah the car will tell you if it needs a service" How logical is that!
My problem with the service center in Texas is that there is no loaner cars. I do not like being driven around (Uber) by someone who breaks the speed limit and disregard for my safety.
I just priced a service for a 2009 Ford focus diesel. $480 from thr Ford dealer, and $350 at the local garage. I do it myself for cost of oils and filters for less then half the local garage charge.
If you go with tesla depending on the model and size 12k-20k or if you go 3rd party such as Recell EV if you're in the US they will do the swap and disposal for their sticker price which is 7-9k and have a warranty
Seeing this was ok, I was expecting it to be a minimal maintenance anyway, but my biggest fear came from your trip video. Range anxiety is very very real! Plus if you live in a Unit/Apartment where there’s no power outlets, not even going back home would help you charge! BTW how would you own one of these if you can’t charge it at home?
Hey mate, thanks for the comment. We know a few people that live in apartments and dont have access to a charger. Just like going to the petrol station, they drive to a supercharger or a free charger (much slower) once every 2 weeks or so. It hasn't been an issue for them. But I agree, charging at home is definitely the best option. Since recording that first solo trip video, my range anxiety has completely gone! We've had no issues since then. It just took me a while to understand how it works and that we can use all the third party chargers as well (not just Tesla).

Hello, I would advise keeping your current vehicles those are both very good cars. Pay them off and drive them for as long as they last. It is very difficult to get parts for Tesla if it is involved in a collision. Plus charging stations are not widely available yet. The best thing to do is avoid a car payment at all costs. Especially if you don't own a house yet. There are plenty of used cars that can be purchased cash which are in excellent condition.
For me, these repair cost savings is significantly greater than the fuel savings when compared to my old petrol car and my old car got 15-20mpg (18.93-25.36 liters per 100km). It was terribly inefficient, but even more so unreliable.
@@samjam6989 there is a battery coolant. lot of ppl replace coolant cos of crack due to bump, small rock etc. car's underneath, coolant line is weak apparently.
how is the time insignificant if you have to wait for appointment, supplies and services. it is terrifying that you cannot go anywhere else to repair your Tesla, it is like you are stuck with them. i don't like be in that spot after paying so much money.
The idea that an EV doesn’t require regular maintenance is absurd. First of all, Teslas aren’t made very well and secondly they’re relying on their customers to know when their car needs service. The correct answer is to take the vehicle in for a maintenance inspection every 6two months/8,000 miles. The suspension, braking system components and wheel alignment MUST be inspected to keep the vehicle working at peak efficiency/performance and safety. Also that $25,000 drive battery needs to be inspected at least 1x per year for load balancing, etc. Tesla is being grossly irresponsible for saying this. I predict most of these vehicles will be in the jink yard in 5 years. This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about - and apparently neither does Tesla. FOr example, with regenerative braking some drivers can go weeks without using their hydraulic brakes. And what does this lead to? Corrosion, especially in cold weather areas where salt is applied to the roads. This is a serious safety issue that Tesla on addresses - and not in any detail - on their own website.
yes but all new cars require a lot less service I general, sure a gas car needs an oil changer ever so often about 15 - 20k km, and yes they need just like a Tesle their air filters changed, but and here is the catch you and every other fanboy eighter neglect to tell people, simply lie about or you are just too uninformed about it, while a gas car yes cost a little extra on every service, but it is a well established and accepted knowledge that Tesla's and other EV batteries tend to degrade to the extent of about 1% of range per year, which means the batteries retain 90% of their capacity after 10 years on the road, this can of course differ from car to car and repented on how you take care of your car, but that goes for gas cars as well, but gas cars don't need a new $AU18,630 battery, even if your Toyota needed a new engine it would be that expensive ""Replacing a car engine in Australia can cost $3,096 to $11,097, depending on the vehicle's make and model and the mechanic's labour cost. In major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra, the average labour costs of engine replacement are $1,195, $1,270, and $1,273, respectively" source: www.airtasker.com/au/costs/car-engine-replacement/engine-replacement-cost/ if you could just be honest about the whole EV debate, there would be so much resistance from people, it's just a new type of car it's not a miracle, and it will absolutely not save the world
What about the sowtware updates they make you pay thousands for? Lol completely biased review. How much does tesla pay you for your postive advertisement? If i cant work on my own vehicle i dont want it
EVs are overpriced cars for short distance driving only. You have to drive them 60K or more miles before they truly become net-zero. The batteries lose efficiency and thus range in cold weather, and of course they'll eventually need to be replaced. I love my 2012 Camry, it'll last me at least another 10 years.
Thanks for the comment. Price of batteries and therefore EV's will continue to trend down. Doing the numbers on a 10 year horizon with Toyota Camry a few years ago, we found the Tesla became cheaper for us after about 7years, which is insane considering it's so much more upfront (and a much better car). Tesla LFP battery should last 500,000kms. A Tesla is roughly 4x more efficient than a comparable ICE.
3rd worst brand reliability rating in America, power steering, cruise control, battery packs worn out prematurely, coolant leaking into electric motor.. list goes on. I think us mechanics will be just fine with evs buddy.
That will improve with time because those are repairs that Tesla can update vs maintenance which is constant. So yes you are correct that some teslas unfortunately have TEMPORARY teething problems which results in repairs but you are incorrect if you think they have more maintenance.
What nonsense- I have 50,000 miles on my model 3 snd have pig 1 gallon of washer fluid and one set of tires at 28,000 miles on it. NOTHING ELSE. I have never had that experience with BMW, Porsche of Mercedes. Remarkable. 👍👍😊

Because of that, it is more labour intensive for a mechanic hence many wheel alignment shops will charge much more or just decline the job. .there is a very good reason tesla service center charges £320 for all wheels alignment service in UK
Cabin filter is not as easy to replace as on the ICE car by popping the bonnet lid, clipping off plastic cover and replacing within 10min.

Thanks for the great video.
I have been considering a model 3 but an alignment after only 12 months? Those are all new suspension parts and should hold alignment well.
So yes, avoid Tesla service if you can unless it is their mobile service.
but is that voiding warranty changing it yourself ??
Ryan is this still valid? Anything else to add for servicing?
Just some 💭
80 dollar is only for the wheel rotation though, the wheel alignment is another 200.

My Audi in Brisbane is woeful and I rarely leave there without a $2,000 plus bill. Tesla couldn’t be as bad as Audi here.
Taking collection of my first EV next Saturday, M3 Highland after spending 8 hours carpooling in one.
I was a Tesla and EV hater. I had all my questions lined up and ready to tear shreds into the ongoing costs vs an ICE car.
"So how much higher is your power bill now?"
"Umm... About 1/4 of my monthly petrol bill"
"Okay then... How much do services cost and how often do you have to do them?"
"Service? Ehhh... Maybe about $200 once every 2 years?"
Hearing this, right after picking up my Subie Forester from a service where I had just dropped $600.... It cut me deep.
Then I started the Novated Lease enquiries and here I am... Anyone wanna buy a Forester? HAHAHAHAHAHA
I've had brilliant dealings with my service center which is something I can't say about every other ICE car center I've ever had to deal with as a female!
That's awesome to hear !
I do have a question?
When should one replace the battery coolant? I have. 2019 M3D no issues at all but the coolant will degrade I believe after so many years. Can someone advise ?
Love your videos Ryan! Keep on making them! :D
I scheduled my first service haven't even gone to the play and the app says 356 buck because i said the door out of alignment and there is a rattle. soooooo wtf? Charging me for a warranty issue?
Electricity prices in Australia are stupendously high though
Hello there,
Hiw about break caliper lublications?
I've heard that need to be done every 20k km
Is that right?
If yes, how much you paid for that service?
Thanks
So even today year 2024 models 3s are cheap to maintain?
I’m an Uber driver and Tesla is the way to go. I use to spend 20,000 a year on gas now I only spend about 5,000 in charging.
In the end of the day, do you recommend me to get a Tesla model Y though? Is Model X really that much better for doubling the cost?
Model Y for sure ! 🙌

So if the service that he suggests is every 10M KILOMETERS AT 80$, that's roughly 160 a year for that maintainance.
lol we 'had to' service our Mazda every year and cost $600+ ! Tesla don't request any service, only recommendations if you want to bring your car in.

Thanks Henny ! Let me know how you go ! I still haven't taken mine in for service !
🤔All I’ve known are combustion engines and these Tesla’s are mind blowing. The amount of money I’m throwing into a used car is insane, non-stop money pit🤷🏾♂️
if you dont come in for service will you lose warranty on the car ?
No
80 for a tire rotation is crazy....
I realize that this video is two years old, but Tesla hasn’t changed in their service department in those years.
you know the tesla differential(s) oil needs to be changed right? lmao, look it up man. tired of UA-camrs making false claims.
ps. we have a model 3
And coolant and brake fluid
Probably he doesn’t know, I got a 2021 model 3 and I didn’t knew until see a video about it few days ago. And when I called tesla in Manchester to ask about it they told me that probably never need to be changed.
I understand your thought about false claims but not everyone is the same 🤷♂️🤷♂️
Love this!
The cheapest EV in Australia right now costs over $320 a year to service ( MG ZS EV).
Tesla really are way ahead of legacy auto.
Thanks mate ! Yeah I actually should’ve mentioned this in the video .. legacy auto stitching people up with their new ev’s “requiring” servicing. So silly !
@@RyanCowan EVs with fixed servicing intervals is such and old way of thinking.

Costlier maintenance ✅
Great video. I would like to see a video of battery replacement- as far as i know, it's expensive. Thanks
Dont buy the Tesla car.

No service needed as they won't last long enough to need any. It may burn up even faster
Teslas motto "over promise under deliver "
Tesla is charging me $160 to balance the bursting wheel when I only have 403 miles.
For me, these repair cost savings is significantly greater than the fuel savings when compared to my old petrol car and my old car got 15-20mpg (18.93-25.36 liters per 100km). It was terribly inefficient, but even more so unreliable.
What car did you have? My si takes premium gets 30 mpg avg. on the highway I can do 40-50 mpg

Much less than a petrol car thankfully !
omg just an 80 dollar service??

This is a serious safety issue that Tesla on addresses - and not in any detail - on their own website.
lol I'm guessing you're a mechanic .. 😂
Also I get paid so much more with a nicer car. Better tips!!!
Would never in a million years buy a EV...
Why's that? What if they are cheaper and better in every way .. which will likely happen in the next few years.
Great 😅
yes but all new cars require a lot less service I general, sure a gas car needs an oil changer ever so often about 15 - 20k km, and yes they need just like a Tesle their air filters changed, but and here is the catch you and every other fanboy eighter neglect to tell people, simply lie about or you are just too uninformed about it, while a gas car yes cost a little extra on every service, but it is a well established and accepted knowledge that Tesla's and other EV batteries tend to degrade to the extent of about 1% of range per year, which means the batteries retain 90% of their capacity after 10 years on the road, this can of course differ from car to car and repented on how you take care of your car, but that goes for gas cars as well, but gas cars don't need a new $AU18,630 battery, even if your Toyota needed a new engine it would be that expensive ""Replacing a car engine in Australia can cost $3,096 to $11,097, depending on the vehicle's make and model and the mechanic's labour cost. In major cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra, the average labour costs of engine replacement are $1,195, $1,270, and $1,273, respectively" source: www.airtasker.com/au/costs/car-engine-replacement/engine-replacement-cost/
if you could just be honest about the whole EV debate, there would be so much resistance from people, it's just a new type of car it's not a miracle, and it will absolutely not save the world
What about the sowtware updates they make you pay thousands for? Lol completely biased review. How much does tesla pay you for your postive advertisement? If i cant work on my own vehicle i dont want it
Except for the fact that the software updates are free………..
You have absolutely no idea what what the hell you’re talking about. All updates are FREE. DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SPELL? F-R-E-E.
My friend had his battery in his Tesla Model S replaced after 7.5 years at $0 cost to him. Try that in a Toyota Camry.
