You made me cry. You captured the emotional importance of this race and the community of runners and volunteers that make it possible. I’ve been running the SOB 50K race since 2014. It becomes a part of one’s identity. Registration for the 2024 races opened today.
Awesome video! This was my first year at SOB and it was truly unforgettable. Just the perfect way to experience the beauty of Southern Oregon and the unique attitude of the Ashland running community. The course is tough but runnable, and there's always something new and beautiful around the corner. If you're thinking about a destination race, this has to be near the top of your list!
The 2023 SOB 50K was my first ultra, at 58yo, and after recovering from acute Achilles tendonitis. Overnight camping in the parking lot was very helpful; I recommend showing up a bit early on Friday to get preferred spots, whether tent or R.V. (like maybe around noon). Breakfast, morning of race, was a very welcome feature. And the food after race was perfect. The hills were no joke, so make sure you get some hills in your training--not a ton of vert on the 50k, but enough to keep you honest. For Oregonians, if you can't get into the Mt Hood 50, IMO, I think the SOB is a great initiation into ultras. THANKS FOR A GREAT EVENT!
Yup, first 50k I cramped on the huge up hills and was laying on the side and another runner came by to check on me and even gave me salt tablets that made my cramps go away. It was awesome

Great video. Thank you RDs & volunteers ❤
63 and going to run the 8k this year. Thanks for adding a shorter run for us “seasoned” runners.
Thanks for helping me complete my first sanctioned ultra (the 50k) and for creating a series where people can up their level year after year.
Goosebumps....thanks for sharing! Can't wait for next year :)
Nice job, hats off to the RD’s and volunteers
Wonderful video! Love this brutal, beautiful course. I have cowbells for each of the three distances and they are all very dear to me!!
