  • In Cologne in 1212 a boy named Nicholas captivated thousands of children between the ages of eight and fifteen with his fanatical speeches. They had been chosen, he said, to liberate Jerusalem. Likewise, in the French town of Cloyes a young shepherd gathered numerous children around him with the same proclamation.

Probably Pope Inocent IIIs victims. I was wondering where all the children came from. He thought young blood kept him young.

I love history especially ancient. But I am in reservations. What is it that factually occured, and are fabrications, fantasies, interpolations, allegories, and myths ?

I wish they had made it to Jerusalem. That would have been epic. It would have ended the same way regardless.

Some historians doubt the veracity of the whole saga and see the tale as a type of allegory for the disappearance of children due to the black death or the migration of young people eastwards especially from Germany in search of a better future. Also the fairy tale of the Pied Piper is somehow connected with children following a charismatic leader to their doom and disappearance. In our own time naive and idealistic children are following a charismatic leader like Greta and also blaming greedy and grasping adults for the environmental woes of the world and they are looking forward to a green utopia fueled by clean energy. But will they achieve it????

Very interesting notice of the similarities between the Pied Piper and of course the black death. I don't like your comparison to the environmental movement though. They're not children en Greta Thunberg is not a leader. Also, blaming greedy adults is in fact the case since we can hardly blame our children. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course and if you'd rather compare the warnings of hundreds of thousands of grown scientists of all various subjects from all over the world to a group of misled children fanatics, I'd say; do you best to damage the world and do the opposite of living sustainable (in every single act on a daily basis) and see if that will stop scientists warnings and maybe all problems will go away (or probably they'll be washed away by rising sea levels.)

I find it ironic that a German channel (Germany until the 19th century was the main part of the HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE) hired a historian whose surname is NERO (@5:30) to attempt once again to "burn Christianity" at the stake of their heavily biased allegations.
I call that a proper circus!

I have read about the Children’s Crusade in quite a few different places. Barbara Tuchman wrote a fabulous book in the late 1970’s “A Distant Mirror, the Calamitous 14th Century”. A great read.

It's not a Christianity thing. A manipulative convincing narcissist can brainwash the desperate and vulnerable quite effortlessly. Practical every religious belief has been used as a manipulative weapon to condition the mind for unscrupulous ends.
