These are the kind of races that increased NASCAR'S popularity in the 80s. Numerous drivers with a chance to win, close racing and passing, and Darlington on Labor Day weekend. Amazing that a 2nd tier golf match bumped the Southern 500 to secondary coverage. Tim Richmond was a helluva talented and aggressive driver. Shame what happened to him; Richmond vs Earnhardt would have been awesome entertainment for many years
Wow! Just Wow! I know that I watched this race back then, but you don’t see this anymore! I’m glad that I have the opportunity to watch these old races again, and really appreciate what it’s all about. I remember the heroes and guys who struggled. But I gotta tell ya, this is what I remember being real racing!! So happy to have these old races brought back to me online! Thanks! And I’m sure looking forward to seeing more! 👍
Refreshing to hear the winning driver's, as well as second place finisher's, interviews, where there were no ramblings-on of products plugs. Instead, the drivers spoke about the aspects of the race that led to their places at the finish.
I agree with you in large part, but remember that monetary sponsorship is critical to a team's success. So, don't be too harsh on them for being a team player! :)
What was the purpose of that? Was it just to try to lay down rubber for traction (like they do today at places like Phoenix)? Or was there some other thought process behind it?

I've been to 25 - 30 races at Darlington. My favorite track to go.
Thank you for posting this and these other great races!
One of my favorite races.
Love the Petty vs. Earnhardt in this race...
wow track looks so wet when they go back racing
thats cool to see them dragging the track with tires ... how far theyve come

Do you happen to have the 1985 or 1986 TransSouth 500?
