An Emote by game standards is more or less a button or a group of buttons you press and your character plays an animation or does something fancy.
It may be a time of conflict, but MAN watching flats play Rein will never not make me happy. He's such a monster. The moment at like 12:30 where he blocks shatter, counter shatters and kills tank + 2 healers, is just the stuff of nightmares!
OW needs to give these mythic weapons the heirloom treatment like apex. have them tied to a characters lore/ personality a little more. and have ACTUAL inspects when you stand still and then do the Spinny when you're moving.
In Apex you can inspect pretty much every weapon in the game, but you can also equip an heirloom melee weapon that overrides your default running/punching animations, and further you can inspect the heirlooms as well. Inspect is normally bound as a button that you hold, and when you tap the inspect button with the heirloom equipped while moving you will spin or "flourish" it. The confusion here is that in Overwatch you only have one weapon set, and the majority of heroes aren't able to holster their weapon. So the devs opted for mythic weapon skins instead of a separate melee weapon I agree that weapon inspect animations would be cool to have on all heroes as a baseline, but it's kinda already a precedent in live service games that being able to have a button to spin your fancy weapon while you're running is a "premium" feature of these items, even if that sounds super basic for the price.
It's not a weapon inspection. You can't see the details of the weapon when it's spinning that fast. That is a flourish not an inspect. A weapon inspection for the hammer should be him flipping the hammer head to the other hand and looking at it. Like he does in idle when it shows more of the hammer with the fire but. That should have been the button press. Of course that's my opinion.
When I think of "weapon inspect" I think of the one in TF2 where it will show off multiple angles of the weapon in first person view. (And if it's a strange weapon it will usually show off the strange counter on it.)

Flipping the weapon is not getting a better look at it, thus what Rein does in game is not an inspect. An inspect is not a literal inspect. It's just you fidgeting with the weapon. In Valorant, you can do a full inspection of the weapon in the main menu, yet you still can do the inspect animation at any time. The purpose of it is not to check out the whole weapon, but to have a fun animation.
the flourish is a reload animation because you activate it with the reload button and other players can see you do it and since rein's hammer doesn't use ammo it's impossible to determine whether or not it can affect ammo

Yeah the action of flipping your hammer isn't really inspecting the weapon. It's weird because flourishes usually happen while idle, so it seems they got the animations backward. They probably did this on purpose.

It is technically a "Flourish". Every mid evil game or games with swords (most of them), have a button where you press and you spin your weapon. A weapon sinspect is the animation you get from standing still for a few seconds.
An inspect to me is something unique for every weapon showing the weapon in its entirety enough to where the player can actually see the parts that make it different. If a weapon has a skin the inspect would use any new parts or unique animation. So just to make it short I played valorant I feel like inspect are just a fun little dopamine thing to click to show off the entire weapon

The funniest part is the kill effects aren't even unique, the demonic like circle on the ground is recoloured from the Ashe mythic's Dynamite explosion which leaves a purple version of that

My gripe with mythics skins as they are now is how they have to be unlocked in tiers for no other reason then you don't get everything at once. There is no reason for it unless the player could buy what ever cosmetic options they wanted in what ever order / selectively wanted. But you can only get to the next cosmetic options by purchasing each one sequentially Its just extra steps for no reason that benefits the player spending the currency. It only makes it look like the player is purchasing more items on a spread sheet. Like they are trying to pad out interaction numbers per player in the cosmetic shop.
i do think its stupid to put the flourish behind another tier, but in all seriousness, that just isnt an inspect, you dont actually INSPECT or STUDY the weapon like you would with an actual inspect. An inspect would be a much slower paced animation where you know... you could actually observe the weapon, not just a little flip. I feel like the best way for them to have mythic weapon tiers is Tier 1: Weapon Skin Tier 2: Upgrade effects Tier 3: Ability Effects (like a different Fire Strike and Shatter) Tier 4: Kill Animation
I got the mythic weapon the day it released, and didn't see the afk animation, until 3 weeks later when my team was rolling, we got a team kill, so i sat on point waiting, and then the afk animation (which should be the inspect animation) happened, and blocked most of the fucking screen, its awful that the closest thing to an inspect animation besides the flourish, needs you to be afk, and then blocks most of the screen making it useless, if they made that into a button i think people would be happier rather then the ADHD button and the afk animation

because you can actually see someone doing it it's technically not an inspect, most inspects are just player only buttons to hit and look at their cool looking weapons and often aren't worth the effort of animating on anything other than clientside, this is somewhere between both that and an emote because you can see it being done. It *still* is stupid that this weapon costs an entire games worth of money.
I think the worst part about it is that we know they have the capacity to make them and implement them in game for all heroes, just choose not to, even with the ones already created for the trailer

Rein's new mythis weapon isn't an inspect. You don't get to inspect it at all. You just flip it. I say it is a flourish rather than an inspect. For one the animation doesn't even give you enough time to see more of the weapon. The animation is short enough where you could do it before an earthshatter for example, whereas a weapon inspect both wouldn't be ideal for that situation in both appearance and animation length. Aside from that, it doesn't really matter what the average gamer would call it imo, since I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did add free "real" inspects down the line, including one for Reinhardt. "Flourishes" aren't common in general, but they _did_ exist before overwatch. The idle animation does look more like what a weapon inspect would be. Ignore the fact that it is an idle fidget, since I don't think that was part of the argument. It is animated like a weapon inspect.
A Flick animation is not a good weapon inspect. It’s something that could have just GIVEN any skin. Like why not have random weapon inspects designed a SPECIFICALLY for that mythic weapon skin. One can shoot fire out of it One can make him twirl it front of him making a fire circle Make the skull talk or make louder noises. They go with… a flick. Thats why it doesn’t seem worth it. The weapon animation seems cool. If they would have made it a simple 50 prisms, I think that would have made a lot of people take the time to buy the hammer more.
I hope they learn from this and next mythic inspects are way cooler, like people spam or use it before a play they are about to do. Like the wingman on apex

Not trying to help Blizzard, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt to call it a flourish. A weapon inspect is putting the weapon in front of you to look at the details by looking at the left of it, to the right, and interacting with it for maybe 1-2 seconds. Not twirling it so fast that trying to see small details are impossible and youre really just fucking with it. That i feel like would deam as flourish. Not enough action to classify as an emote but too much to classify as an inspect.

It's not a weapon inspection. You can't see the details of the weapon when it's spinning that fast. That is a flourish not an inspect.

because you can actually see someone doing it it's technically not an inspect, most inspects are just player only buttons to hit and look at their cool looking weapons and often aren't worth the effort of animating on anything other than clientside, this is somewhere between both that and an emote because you can see it being done. It *still* is stupid that this weapon costs an entire games worth of money.

Rein's new mythis weapon isn't an inspect. You don't get to inspect it at all. You just flip it. It's not a flourish either because it's not doing anything fancy like spinning it in circles infront of you while the weapon roars out fire. I'll call it a flip. Flip. It's just flipping the weapon. I know the name sounds bad, it's suppose to. Overwatch just call it a flourish for zeh moneh.
I think I agree with Shayed in that I wouldn’t call it an “inspect” but the term “flourish” actually fits. Regardless, this shouldn’t be behind a paywall and weapon inspects are way far overdue.
Honestly if they made the animation more complicated than just a simple flip itd be worth a paywall. Make rein spin it around himself like someone with a staff might flourish before a battle and even if it could be applied to all rein weapons itd feel worth your money. a flip animation isnt worth a penny imo

I say it is a flourish rather than an inspect. For one the animation doesn't even give you enough time to see more of the weapon. The animation is short enough where you could do it before an earthshatter for example, whereas a weapon inspect both wouldn't be ideal for that situation in both appearance and animation length.
Aside from that, it doesn't really matter what the average gamer would call it imo, since I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did add free "real" inspects down the line, including one for Reinhardt. "Flourishes" aren't common in general, but they _did_ exist before overwatch.
The idle animation does look more like what a weapon inspect would be. Ignore the fact that it is an idle fidget, since I don't think that was part of the argument. It is animated like a weapon inspect.

A flourish would be a good way to differentiate how a skill is expressed. Ex: give rein shatter the spin behind the back he does in his play of the game intro.

Not trying to help Blizzard, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt to call it a flourish. A weapon inspect is putting the weapon in front of you to look at the details by looking at the left of it, to the right, and interacting with it for maybe 1-2 seconds. Not twirling it so fast that trying to see small details are impossible and youre really just fucking with it. That i feel like would deam as flourish. Not enough action to classify as an emote but too much to classify as an inspect.
