Interesting. Hephaestus and Aphrodite seem to have a good relationship in this version. I was interested to see where they would take these two characters and seeing them more amicable than in the myths is nice

Reminds me of the greek myth manga call MYth by Zelda CW where Hephaestus and Aphrodite started off on bad terms due to the nature of her powers as the goddess of proceation, beauty and other things. But they ended agreeing to marrying and Hephaestus promising her he won't touch her and let her have her fling with Ares (due to her powers.) It was written to show her marriage with Hephaestus is filled with love while her relationship with Are was more lustful. Again much more amicable than the original. The original myth was...oh lord crazy and messy.

Definitely interesting. Not sure how I should feel when/if Ares makes an appearance in Hades II or is another god offering boons to Melinoe
I'm glad they went this direction for the two. Haephastus might spite people but he's not the kind to hold onto grudges forever, he trapped Hera in a throne for throwing him off mount Olympus but he also acts as a mediator between Hera and Zeus' squabbling, he even got thrown off the mountain a second time for being on Hera's side. And Aphrodite is well, she goes around.
Besides, they made it a point in the first game that the gods emotions are quick and fleeting. They get mad at you and try to kill you for not picking them during multi-boon rooms but then immediately calm down after.
He must really be patient to mediate the squabbles between Zeus and Hera

That comes from ancient representations of greek gods too. We have been commonly brought up to believe, in part thanks to christianity and similar faiths, that gods are paragons who are always morally and ethically virtuous but the greeks thought differently; they believed gods represented what was TRUE so in these interpretations gods arent just fallible and flawed but hyperbolic too. Their emotions are as powerful and as great as they are, hence why they always take such brash approaches and express feelings much more intensely than mortals
Haephastus gave Harmonia(child of Ares and Aphrodite) a cursed necklace out of spite that brought her, Cadmus and the house of thebes death for generations. Dionysius killing almost his entire mortal family for not believing he was a god and presenting their head to Cadmus. Cadmus having to do service to Ares, and getting transformed into a dragon. Acteon getting brutally killed by Artemis. Generations killed by infighting . Oedipus you know what happend to him . Oedipus children killing each other.
All while she still wears the same warpaint as Ares lol

Tbf, in hades I, we see zag in a relationship with thanatos and meg at the same time. So Hephaestus and Aphrodite being together while aphrodite is sleeping with Ares wouldn't be that far fetched
greek gods seem to be fine with polyamory in some cases ( except for freaking Hera , lol ) . Didn`t we have Zagreus , Thanatos and Megaera in the first game and Achilles told Zagreus that it`s all good anyway

In Hades 1 they do insinuate through Zagreus and his relationships that most gods are down with polyamory. So they could have taken there relationship and made them an open married couple. Hephaestus still might not like his brother much, but might be okay with Aphrodite sleeping with whoever she likes.

At least in the mythos he is not okay with it, but can't really do much about it. He created a trap of hot metal to catch her and ares red handed, so as to shame them in front of gods and also to get back the dowry he paid to zeus
@@Vajrapani108 Oh ya in the myths its very clear Hephaestus is not down with what they are doing. But The Hades team does often like to put their own spin on things to try and to try tidy things up within different versions of the myths that can't work alongside eachother. Like removing all the god incest.
If Supergiant knows about Aphrodite Areia, it tracks they would make her and Hephaestus sweeter on each other. What else could a war goddess want but an expert weapon and armor forger?

I personally like to think of them as amicable exes, that after the divorce, they would still sleep together (Hephaestus remarking they slept together more often as exes than they did as a married couple) for whenever Aphrodite wanted new jewelry, and that Aphrodite even helped Hephaestus find his second wife, Algaea.
I like to think that they’re still married for the tax benefits

Both games made the greek mythos so much friendlier in general that I find it interesting to see how it change things.
Some people complain but the myths themselves also drastically change all the time.
In a lot of Greek myths, Aphrodite was initially really upset that she was married off to Hephaestus, and didn’t really like him at first. But he showed her a lot of affection and loyalty and made her the most beautiful jewelry and trinkets, that she eventually grew to really love him. They have one of the most healthy relationships amongst the Olympian gods
Hephaestus literally caught Aphrodite cheating on him with Ares... I dont think she ever actually really grows close to him in mythology, they kinda passively dislike each other and thats about it.
@@thedino2712 I said it was one of the MORE healthy ones. They weren’t perfect. But they still a lot of the time at least got along somewhat well Hera and Zeus were always feuding. I get the sense that as the goddess of love Hephaestus wasn’t HAPPY about her sleeping around, but like…..he kinda understood it was gonna happen. Aphrodite at the very least found Hephaestus endearing over time, and did really appreciate the attention he gave her. It was still an arranged marriage essentially, but all things considered Aphrodite was kinda like “eh, I guess you’re a pretty nice guy all things considered”
I b some versions of the myth, they divorce and Hephaestus end up marrying Charis/Aglaea.

@@spiderdude2099 Hephaestus was NOT happy finding out about her cheating. Like he didn't take his anger out on her, the gods didn't really do that. But he did "gift" a certain necklace to harmonia (the daughter of Ares and Aphrodite from said affair). He cursed said necklace and made disaster befall anyone who wore it. The necklace itself is actually a surprisingly reoccuring object causing misfortune every time it appears.
In this version, I like to think they're just in a really loving open marriage.
I mean she IS Aphrodite so, it makes sense I suppose.

@@grine0012 Its likely after but they made it a point that the gods emotions are fleeting. Like they get mad at you when you don't pick them from the multi-boon choice rooms but they immediately just go "It's all fine now, have a nice day" the next time you get their boon.
ive always liked the weird poetry of them as a couple, a goddess born of only of a god, and a god born only of a goddess, beauty and deformed, one rising from the sea to Olympus, the other cast down from Olympus to the sea
Nice to seem them getting along after the whole "Netting Aphrodite to a bed" thing. You think she'd hold that against Hephaestus for a long time, but this is the same pantheon interpretation that instantly forgives you after pettily blasting you for not favoring them.

I feel like they would be a great couple. The goddess of love and beauty cares for the one that is “ugly” and unliked. Very sweet.

Given the game's tone I would not doubt if they just solve the whole affair thing with Hephaestus, Aphrodite and Ares being in a polycule. Forge jewelry for love and weapons for war.
The first game says pretty much outright that polyamory is the norm amongst the gods, and Hades is an exception.

They’re still married in myth and with the way the Gods work to me it would make sense for them to at least be in good terms *sometimes*. Gods emotions are fleeting. The change that I am wondering if they did is weather they made Aphrodite openly Poly in the way that was hinted at with dialogue in the first game (It’s said most Gods don’t hold exclusive relationships and Hades’s exclusivity to Persephone is abnormal by Gods standards. And Zeus and Hera continue to have their issue because she is a god of marriage). I imagine that’s probably the actual change they made. Specially considering Aphrodite’s flirting. But it doesn’t feel disrespectful to the myth or anything

If you notice Aphrodite's new look in this game, she has the same paint in her face as Ares in the last one, so take that as you will.

Literally the only god with a "clean" record is Hades. And even he used the pomegranate seeds to bind Persephone to the Underworld. Allthough, that was less because he didn't trust Persephone and more because he was worried Demeter would basically never let the two see each other again. (A fear that ended up being well founded lol)
