I think somewhat differently, with this Ikemoto wants to show that Boruto is first and foremost Sasuke's student and heir to his fighting style. The clones were the "trademark" of Naruto's style and Boruto used to used a mix of his parents styles, but now it's different

If they do the old gen justice, I say focus on characters that were sidelined even in naruto series, like Lee, or temari or even current characters like sumeri or shikamaru
