In my part of Igbo we have been having kings even before the Agu ukwu Nri, and we practice the tradition of Igbu evi. Every male born in a family will have such tradition performed on his behalf by either the father of child or the kindred, because it is done in line as male children were born and for any male child born in any particular umunna. You cannot jump the first and do it for the second or the third.
The igbu evi which would be done when the person was still a child prepares you to take up any title you may choose once you becomes an adult.. So, we do not take nze or ozor as big deal, rather we have respected Ndi Ichie, which is a set of most elderly people who are of the same age grade or two age grades but the second one must be next to the oldest age grade in the community.. The Nri people comes to my community for fortification before any new coronation of Eze Nri.
