Rings of Power Season 2 Reviews are just days away, but before that we get behind the scenes GQ exclusives and cast interviews with Jimmy Kimmel. But as the Rings of Power Season 2 script was written before Season 1 was even shown. Along with the WGA strikes preventing script changes during filming, any fan feedback was ignored. This means that the marketing improvements and messaging of speed and pace of story were coincidental. Responses to fan problems, but seemingly not intentional. So is the story as it appears, or are they just telling the audience what they want to hear? Because as Rings of Power stopped attacking the fans and pushing identities in previous interviews, it's back in full force in the behind the scenes GQ interview. So any hope I had that maybe they had listened to fans about problems with the series and fixed them, is now gone. They're doubling down hard, possibly in preparation for poor feedback. Already getting the fan hate shield ready. But what do you think? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)
Just a little heads-up... I don't think the "G" in "GQ" stands for gentlemen anymore... not for a long time. Now, I think it stands for the same things that Rafe Judkins and RT Davies are... you know... "happy" feminists.
If they wrote season 2 first, then how did they write Bronwyn's story out of season 2?? They didn't know she was leaving! 😂😂 And Disparu the spider is pronounced She-lob 😊
I don't recognize anything even slightly Tolkienesque in this Amazon's slop, so my reaction is rather "meh, whatever". People liking this series don't care about Tolkien anyway and his readers are just going to continue to read his books. I don't see anything changing by this show. With the exception of seeing a few more crew and adult pretenders as tools they are. Although I'm positive that the YT reviews are going to be quite entertaining by taking p*ss out of it.
Orlando Bloom cracked his ribs when horse-riding in a fight scene, yet carried on filming. Sean Astin cut his foot on glass during the scene when trying to catch up with Frodo on the river, yet carried on filming. Viggo Mortensen broke a couple of his toes during multiple takes of kicking an Uruk's helmet in anger, yet HE carried on filming. Morfydd Clark needed therapy after fighting an Orc, yet WHY is she still filming?
@@kedb621apparently she needed exposure therapy for her fight scenes cause she would flinch when being swung at. So they had a bunch of huge dudes with swords run at and passed her
Im asian. When i was young, i imagine myself as superman, batman, blade killing vampire, i imagine myself as Eli in the Book of Eli, transporting the book to my destination on a post apocalypse world. That statement about "wish i was white so i can look like this character" is definitely not something a 4 years old would say, it would be the adult that put those words in her mouth.
It's just them fabricating the "racism" they so desperately need to justify their imaginary victimhood again. At this point I wish we were half the monsters they make us out to be, just to see the looks on their faces when they experience even a fraction of the oppression they claim to on a daily basis.
I'm white and have been watching anime and C-dramas my whole life, am I supposed to make up this faux divisive alienation in my head because I do not look like any of the characters? LMAO
My mother once asked me & my brothers what we wanted to be when we grew up: Brother 1 - a cannibal Brother 2 - a bus stop Me - a robot I won't be satisfied unless these are incorporated into RoP by season 4
It's sad as I have Prime and I'm still coming out ahead on shipping. Even if I dropped Prime, this stuff would still be funded out of Amazon itself. I just wouldn't be able to watch what I'm not watching anyways. The last thing I watched was The Expanse. And I didn't like the last season. I tried The Boyz and it disgusted me.
I watch Nerdrotic, Disparu, Critical Drinker so I don't have to watch these shit shows. I put off watching Bad Boys because I thought it would be a mess because of Will Smith and the baggage...But Critical Drinker gave it a decent rating. Saying it was just mindless fun. I did try to watch shows like The Marvels even though they said it was crap. But I thought...Capt. Marvel wasn't great but it wasn't horrible so how bad could it be? I should have listened. 20 minutes into it I gave up. Now it is in the queue alongside Space Jam 2 waiting for me to go back and try again. Dr. Who though? Not a chance I will watch the newest version. Maybe some day I will go back and watch the female doctor but after seeing the scenes from the newest Dr. I think that qualifies as watching a female doctor who... :) He must stay really hydrated for how much he cries.
If true, doubtful, kid probably said it because she hears the wacko adults around her pretty much say they don't care about people who aren't "just like them". Keep pointing differences and not similarities then that's what's gonna happen. It's sad, scary, and some more S words YT doesn't like.
When I was a kid, when I was a little boy, I always wanted to be a dinosaur. I wanted to be a Tyrannosaurus Rex more than anything in the world. I made my arms short and I roamed the backyard, I chased the neighborhood cats, I growled and I roared. Everybody knew me and was afraid of me. And one day my dad said, "Bobby, you are 17. It's time to throw childish things aside," and I said, "Okay, Pop." But he didn't really say that, he said, "Stop being a fkn dinosaur and get a job." go be a dinosaur
I'm BLACK.....and there were not Black characters written into the Lord of the Rings. I accepted it and never gave a THOUGHT about it because I didn't care. I dont need to be PANDERED to this way. It makes me sick AND it looks funny seeing them there. Same with Game of Thrones. It LOOKS phoney and nobody is allowed to say it. Want to create some fantasy world...LIKE WAKANADA, then cool...as weird as it could be to through Asians and WHites into Wakanda and just act like they've always been part of the story would be OFF Putting. SO I can admit, blacks in Lord of the RIngs is the same thing.
@@strawberrylotlizard I’m up for a series on Far Harad! I personally find the Easterlings the most fascinating of the antagonists though, what about you?
I always repreat - if they wanted to got diverse story but still in tune with Tolkien's themes and places and nations - they would be able to make from Haradrims epic main cast in a long story of their relations with Numenorians - so much to explore in this through the centuries. From mutual trade and exploring the seas and fighting with pirates and sea monsters to real friendship between them, and then to worsening of pride and greed of Numenorians and they become a brutal and demoralised empire and they treat Haradrims harsh and so the Haradrims become interested in their own power and in alliance with this strange mage who like to give his friends rings of power (9 king took them), and they could also show that some of Haradrims clans never wanted to hve alliance with Sauron and they rebelled and they helped the Faithful (Elendil and Miriel faction) against evil Numenorian elites - like usurper Farazon. Umbar was the region between Harad and Gondor and it was like a fortress of Black Numenorians (not becouse of color of skin but morality) who settled there in the times when Numenor got divided on two factions - King's Men - imperial, greedy, slavers, who served Farazon and Elendili (elven friends) or the Faithful, who wanted to still be friends with elves and faithful to the Valars. I would show the slow decay of morality of Numenorians becouse of their feel of being "cheated" out of immortality given to the elves. So the Black Numenorians would be those who become alchemists who wanted to find cure for death, they wanted immortality. That way they sinned becouse in Tolkien's world death is known as Gift of Man - becouse human souls go elswhere, while elves are chained to this world. but Numenorians could not see it that way, as their power and riches grew they wanted to live longer :) And so in time Black numenorians from the north and Sauron influences from the north-east made Haradrims clans weaker and poorer and demoralised to the point they wanted to be friends with Sauron and Black Numenorians (Umbarians), but Elendili - the Faithful also settled on the continent and they build their fortress north of Umbar in the valley of Anduin river (later Gondor), and these wanted to have good influence of Haradrims. And so I would show it that way that some Haradrims still prefer Elendili not Umbarians. I would made main Haradrims heroes from the tribed who were faithful to the Faithful :) even when they were influenced by Sauron, by evil alchemists and by rotten elites of Numenor. I would show great heroes of Hararims (the equivalent of Black Africans in Tolkien's world) who use oliphants (great elephants) to build their cities, and they trade with Elendili and they protect their land against Saurons forces, Still the majority of Haradrims are influenced by Sauron - they become greedy, cruel and slavers, selling weaponry and slaves to Sauron to build his fortress. They were able to make entire show only about Haradrims and their relations with Numenorians - from good to bad relations.
@@TallisKeeton Yes, you're 100% right, except that the monkeys with typewriters who are writing ROP can't think that hard. Or write coherently. Or gaze beyond their own navels.
I was white while my 2 favorite superheroes were black. I never wished to be black to be more like them, because that had nothing to do with the reason I liked them. I loved Prowler because he did what Batman did without Batman's money, and I loved Blade because Wesley Snipes (while I couldn't stand comics Blade).
I talked to a few coworkers about this series and one guy said he absolutely loved the diversity of the cast and crew. So I asked him what his favorite episode of it was. He said he never watched it, but that the diversity was incredibly important for pushing boundaries. So I ask him why it's so important and he answered that it would draw a wider audience. I ask why it didn't draw him in and he says he doesn't care for fantasy and neither do many of his friends (mostly LGBTQ). This inevitably led to the question of what audience it was drawing and he had the gall to look offended about "needing to see himself" in shows. Kinda hard to "see yourself" if you don't even watch the show, if I'm being honest. I know this is a small sample of people (coworker and his friends) but I think it shows that there isn't really a new audience for "modern entertainment"
Isn't it satisfying to back someone into.a corner like that when you pick apart their asinine views. Waiting to see yourself in a show you never watched is peak comedy
I've never understood the need to see yourself in movies and series. I suppose the newer generation is so self centered they can't enjoy or relate to a story that doesn't include them.
Listen I’m a two spirited penguin who’s a pescatarian, but I identify as a woman who in a past life used to only eat cabbage and write stories about vampires. So you can be a Vampire 🧛
Yesterday, my three year old niece told me: "My grandmother told me once: I don't care what those historians tell you, Sauron was black!" I am so proud of her and this incident that totally happened.
Technically he is, or at least his skin is black after his numenor silliness, but I can imagine going full Samuel J Jackson fighting Gil Galad and Elendil "Yo, Gil, sit your bitch-ass down mofo!".
It's amazing how these low/unproven directors get multimillion dollar projects or in this case, billions, and lo and behold, they flop. Can't make this stuff up 😆
I have a 6 year old daughter... she has said she wishes she was black to like a character.... she has also mentioned wishing she had pink hair to look like another, oh and wishing she was a mermaid to look like ariel... whats the fucking point???
Sad in this day and age people have to look like a fictional character in order to relate to them. Instead of relating to their values, goals and actions.
So their marketing strategy changed from insulting the fans and destroying the lore to destroying the lore and insulting the fans, such a bold innovative change to marketing, surely success is right around the corner for season 2.
Season 2 as a psychological thriller sounds to me like the "religious experience" in Ahsoka or the "murder mystery" in Acolyte. It will probably end up being one of those situations where even the writers didn’t fully understand what happened, but someone died, so they’re slapping on that genre label as justification.
oh yeah... the murder mystery, that literally starts with the "mysterious assassin" going into a busy tavern and yelling at her target "attack me with all your might!" in front of the whole crowd ... so mysterious...
Nothing screams "Tolkien's themes" like a dark psychological thriller focused on the villians.. these hacks do not understand Tolkien in the slightest.
Specifically they don't even know the themes of the Second Age stories..hell they don't realize that the Second Age shouldn't even have any hobbits or wizards! :) As Tolkien wrote about these 'older legends': "Nearly all are grim and tragic: a long account of the disasters that destroyed the beauty of the Ancient World, from the darkening of Valinor to the Downfall of Númenor and the flight of Elendil. And there are no hobbits. Nor does Gandalf appear." And he writes about the Second Age in letters: "The three main themes (of the Second Age) are thus The Delaying Elves that lingered in Middle-earth; Sauron's growth to a new Dark Lord, master and god of Men; and Numenor-Atlantis. They are dealt with annalistically, and in two Tales or Accounts, The Rings of Power and the Downfall of Númenor. Both are the essential background to The Hobbit and its sequel... There is Sauron. In the Silmarillion and Tales of the First Age Sauron was a being of Valinor perverted to the service of the Enemy and becoming his chief captain and servant. He repents in fear when the First Enemy is utterly defeated, but in the end does not do as was commanded, return to the judgement of the gods. He lingers in Middle-earth. Very slowly, beginning with fair motives: the reorganising and rehabilitation of the ruin of Middle-earth, 'neglected by the gods', he becomes a reincarnation of Evil, and a thing lusting for Complete Power - and so consumed ever more fiercely with hate (especially of gods and Elves). Thus, as the Second Age draws on, we have a great Kingdom and evil theocracy (for Sauron is also the god of his slaves) growing up in Middle-earth. In the West lie the precarious refuges of the Elves, while Men in those parts remain more or less uncorrupted if ignorant... Meanwhile Númenor has grown in wealth, wisdom, and glory, under its line of great kings of long life, directly descended from Elros, Earendil's son, brother of Elrond... In the first stage, being men of peace, their courage is devoted to sea-voyages....Mostly they come to the west-shores of Middle-earth, where they aid the Elves and Men against Sauron, and incur his undying hatred. In those days they would come amongst Wild Men as almost divine benefactors, bringing gifts and knowledge, and passing away again - leaving many legends behind of kings and gods out of the sunset. In the second stage, the days of Pride and Glory and grudging of the Ban, they begin to seek wealth rather than bliss. The desire to escape death produced a cult of the dead, and they lavished wealth on tombs and memorials. They now made settlements on the west-shores, but these became rather strongholds and 'factories' of lords seeking wealth, and the Númenóreans became tax-gatherers carrying off over the sea evermore and more goods in their great ships. The Númenóreans began the forging of arms and engines... A new religion, and worship of the Dark, with its temple under Sauron arises. The Faithful are persecuted and sacrificed. The Númenóreans carry their evil also to Middle-earth and there become cruel and wicked lords of necromancy, slaying and tormenting men; and the old legends are overlaid with dark tales of horror. This does not happen, however, in the North West; for thither, because of the Elves, only the Faithful who remain Elf-friends will come... The Second Age ends with the Last Alliance (of Elves and Men), and the great siege of Mordor. It ends with the overthrow of Sauron and destruction of the second visible incarnation of evil" So the showrunners and writers don't even what kind of story they are dealing with...not a story of the simple folk, everyman characters, but actual legendary heroes, mighty warriors, great kings and rulers, great houses and their struggles, larger than life figures, nobles and exceptional individuals.... they also don't know that the stories deal with the corruption of power, temptation, fear of death and desire of deathlessness. The fall is the universal theme...the forging of the Rings Tolkien once named the 'second fall' of the Elves...the entire meaning behind the Rings and their power and it's temptation is also misunderstood by these corporate hacks! The Rings are excercise in ambition to bring about some level of control, elven motives of healing the earth and preserving things from the passage of time, creating islands of timeless beauty, making their lands as fair as Valinor itself, in a way controlling natural forces, opposing natural order of things...Elves grieving for the mortal nature of the world wish to halt the decay of time, the desire for knowledge which was used against them, and exerting some measure of control, the hubris that leads to the downfall, the greed of Men as well as themes of the spiritual, faith and defying God etc.
Depends on the parenting... if as a child while your brain is still growing and you're constantly told look X they're the same skin tone as you. You love representation, don't you X? The child starts to accept that as part of their worldview because they think it's normal and acceptable to want and have someone in a story to look the same as them. Childhood is all about observing how your parent and those around you behaves and mimic what they do until it becomes ingrained as part of you. It's part of the reason why some who see or have been abused also end up abusing others as an adult because they don't know anything different.
@@MajorSmurf lol great point, I guess I should’ve specified that normal kids don’t act that way. Kids are a manifestation of their parents, so it’s no surprise the racists who only see in black and white have kids that see and point out the same things.
Ah yes I remember when my four year old child put down his playdough and said, "Father, why does humanity see itself in shades of black and white? Why do we only observe the pigments of our containers, when humanities emotions and thoughts are a rainbow of colors. Shouldn't we judge others based on their individual character and not as masses or the color of their skin? For the mind, body, and soul is where we truly rest, not the just the outer flesh."
i would like to suggest, that you contact the hospital, your child was born in... they might have made a mistake when bringing it to you out of the maternity ward... 🤣😂
I imagine if the zombie apocalypse happens that Tolkiens skeleton/zombie body will do his damndest to reach Amazon HQ and burn it to the ground. That will in itself be a better written story than whatever this is
If the only thing preventing you from identifying with a character is they are not your color, you have a very tiny imagination, and I pity people like that.
I could identify with a transformer. I am not chopping my hands off to replace with wheels, nor complaining that I'm not blue, red, metallic and are edged in 90 degree angles. I like metallic music and am edgy so its close enough
Shelob having a complex relationship with Isildur??? Oh god, they didn't base this crap on the works of Tolkein! They based it on the Shadow Of War video game, with sexy Shelob, and a COMPLETE disregard for anything Tolkein ever wrote! I'm calling it right now: they're going to make Isildur one of the Nazgul, which would be stupid if you'd ever read the books.
@@julianne_warren they use some book lines that roughly say Ungoliant (Shelob's mother) was "an evil spirit that took on the form of a spider". They twist it to mean that the spider is just a "form" and it can have a human form too so in the game Shelob can switch between spider monster form and attractive human woman form. I'm pretty sure Tolkien wouldn't have approved this "interpretation"
@marcogenovesi8570 Or even if he did that, he would have twisted it, like calling it uncanny, like "so beautiful it immediately awakened a sense of wrongness upon the onlooker. Unnatural and wrong, like a hazy nightmare" Or something, he was good at words😂
@@julianne_warren They turned Shelob into a goth chick obsessed with spiders. Look up a fan made song called 'shelob dindu nuffin' for a funny takedown of the nonsense.
If the kid did actually say that, it speaks to the nonsense their parents are spewing in their ears. Kids don't see color like that. They'd just envision themselves as that character. I liked Blade as a kid. Never thought once about how he was black. Just that he was cool, had swords and was tough.
We have Prime. I skip through all of the current day MESSAGE crap & enjoy watching classic TV & movies, and series before PC ideology that HATES Europeans became the studio RULE.
I watched furiosa last night and I don't know what was worse. The cgi or the fact hollywood is completely clueless to what pain is. A monster truck tire pancakes her arm and she just goes ugh. A 7 inch blade in her shoulder and she shrugs it off. Cuts off her arm and rides a dirt bike straight up a hill that's already shown every other rider bite the dust 30 ft up. Wtf
Seeing Celebrimbor cry the way I did as kid when I picked last for dodgeball was sad and laughable at the same time. This was not Tolkien's Celebrimbor, who was confident and proud. Nannybrimbor acts like he lost a round of Three Card Monty rather than being tragically betrayed by the Dark Lord.
Betrayed how? They already made their ring without Sauron, so his rings would hold no power over them. The tragedy in the real books was that the rings they relied on for their fancy homes was tied to Sauron's life and died with him and could not be used full strength on him.
They're saying the name of the stranger doesn't matter is because they don't have the rights to the names of the wizards. So they want him to be Gandalf but aren't allowed to call him Gandalf.
He won't have a name for the whole show, but in the last episode someone will say "what's your name" and he'll reply "Now we've overthrown the dark lord, I suppose I have to find one"
Agreed. I was confused by that line as well. Nothing I saw/heard about with RoP made me go "they messed up the execution, but at least they understand Tolkien 's themes and worldview"
I dont understand how the actors in Hollywood can be so excited and happy about destroying one of the best stories ever written for their own perverted agenda, and then blame their lack of success on the countless people who love that story. Like the amount of psychotic bat shit crazy ego behind that is insane.
I just finished watching the White Council clip. They were spot on with Galadriel. This ROP completely misses the feel of Middle Earth and the characters. Shoving diversity throughout this show is only one of many missteps they've made.
The only mystery about season 2 is how long it will take before they start calling everyone racist and sexist for calling it out as the POS it's going to be.
There is also the video of a little black girl watching The Little Mermaid live action remake and saying "That's not Ariel!". Even a child can see when race swapping is happening. Stop changing the Lore to suit your American Woke Ideals. Also also, the only reason a child would say something so stupid as they can't be a Disney character because of their skin colour is because the parents put that BS in their head. I totally dressed up as Princess Jasmine as a child even though I'm not West Asian.
kids dont bring colour unless thought to, i babysit alot and all this yrs non of those kids ever said they were be white like a character they o ly say they were be a princess or prince or a character
Season 2 is going to fail hard and that's a good thing. The only thing we need to hammer in while it is failing is that it is failing exactly because of the "all-female" approach, activism, my experienced truth, "my feelings" and other nonsense.
You should listen or read his letter to the publisher that wanted to translate his books to another language. Trust me. He would have unbridled fury for these people taking so much liberty with his material...
There's an old saying that goes "I hate that guy so much I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire." Well, I hate Rings of Power so much I can't even listen to someone taking a dump on it.
Don’t. You, me, and most Americans are not to blame for this. Our entertainment industry is filled with traitorous hacks trying to subvert us and our values.
We are watching the Lord of the rings with our kids (9 and 10) again now. It’s been a yearly tradition ever since they were 5 and 6. We actually saw the trilogy at the cinema two years ago. It’s been wonderful. It’s the only Tolkien interpretation that matters. Always hilarious to watch your critiques, though.
So you think Radagast, a tall young wizard that rode a horse, was turned into a short old wizard being pulled around by a team of rabbits with bird droppings running down his face was a good thing? And leaving out the whole last chapter, The Scorching of the Shire, was a good thing? Did you read the books?
@@helendavis9787 that concept of a nature loving wizard was more creative than RoP could ever dream to be. Besides, they are talking about the original LotR trilogy, where Radagast doesn't even appear. Maybe they dislike the Hobbit trilogy like you do. So don't look down on them, when you don't know anything. Also, before you criticise something, get your facts right. That's not how that particular chapter is called. Can't take someone like you seriously. You also know nothing about how it works to adapt one medium into another. Neither does Amazon.
Its heart breaking to see such potential - of literature, of big budget, of film technology - wasted on this flat and at best moments mediocre thing 😭😭😭
And considering how much they've put into the marketing, and how they've done as much as they can to force people to watch, imagine what a massive audience they'd have had if it was even an "okay" show.
Before white writers wrote their books, white characters didn't exist. Was there a law in place 100 years ago that prevented asian, black or ispanic people to write their books? And don't tell me it's difficult for minorities to get ahead in life in a country with a different native population, 'cause that's valid for any country. A white in China face difficulties too, that's how when you earn your place there you're praised more than others and get all the perks to be part of a minority. And it's about wealth too, a poor native one can have it more difficult than a non native rich one.
if you look into the ttrpg games and the ScieFi-genre, you will find Mike Pondsmith, who created Cyberpunk - the first of its genre - in the late 80's just to prove your point
Not to mention the fact that some of the oldest written myths in existence come from places like China. They were writing stories over a thousand years ago. And incidentally, the left is losing their minds over Black Myth: Wukong, a game made by a Chinese company, not having any 'diversity' in it.
All these Hollywood people complaining about discrimination are rich. They are the least discriminated people on planet Earth. Being rich in the USA. It doesnt matter what color you are there, if you have enough money. Who is discriminated doesnt depend on their skin color, it depends on their wealth.
"The stranger could still, eventually, grow into someone recognizable" Meaning even they don't know how to use characters that they themselves created. That they have no clue where their own script is going and they whole books to tell them what to do... Blooming hell.
Imagine: A) You've been such a terrible parent that your child feels insecure and unable to emphasize with people if they don't share her skin colour. B) You'd lie your kid would say that. C) You don't want your race to define you, yet you still want it to define everyone else.

This Trash fire is no more Tolkien than Madam Web or the Eternals is. This is the Antithesis of Tolkien and what he wrote and created in his beautiful Legendarium. This is low grade fan fiction written by people who never read Tolkien. By Responsibility, they IN NO WAY mean actual responsibility for its failure because women are NEVER responsible for Failure.
i think they listened to audio books and were focused on something else. The same goes for wheel of prime. They barely even know the names of the characters. These are soap operas.
The LoTR was written by a Northern European in Northern Europe about Northern Europeans. Tolkien is a prophet, to go outside of the cannon is unacceptable. MAKE YOUR OWN FN SHOW, BUT DO NOT CALL IT LoTR, then everything will be ok and you can do whatever and NO ONE WILL CARE.
"the audience is right by default" Even if the showrunners could win the argument, a ridiculous idea, all they would have done is proven that the show is not for me. And if everyone like me did the same, they would quickly run out of audience to yell at.
There are not millions of people waiting in the wings thinking, "I'd love to watch TV and movies, if only I was represented in them." No. The people who are watching are the people who want to watch. They're the only audience you have.
At this point it wouldn’t surprise me that they will make Arwen the daughter of Galadriel and Sauron who was adopted by Elrond to appease the cucked Celeborn
This should be punishable not only as desecration of Tolkien’s legacy, but as severe attack on our collective intelligence, good taste and general sanity. Yuck.
I remember when the only thing about Lord of the Rings that was disappointing was The Hobbit trilogy... good times. I mean you can nitpick Peter Jackson for how he made the LOTR trilogy, the scenes, the things he put in or left out but nobody can deny that everyone involved was a huge Tolkien nerd. Nowadays it's about TOKENS not Tolkien. Token black characters, token girl boss characters, they'll probably get in some TOKEN LGBT representation to keep their weirdo fans happy too.
"Gave him a little nugget." "Of Mithril, not poo." "... wait what?" "Keep going the camera is on." 😆😆😆😆😆😆 The sophistication... *SNIFF* I can smell an all female team.
Aren't you glad she's historically a part of a redress of power within all of the actors who play dwarves or something? So historic and mature and important. And poo nuggets.
Still have yet to hear anyone convince me the stranger's real name is NOT "Dave from Birmingham"! Jus saying! Rather surprised you didn't bring that up!
Reinforcing the notion to your 5 year old daughter that the relatable and important qualities of a character they see on the screen are only attainable because of skin color is abominable. The need to see a person who looks like you to be able to appreciate and connect with them, is a character flaw. This means you see only skin color. We all have red blood, we all have intrinsic, universal human traits and virtues that should be at the forefront of how we perceive other human beings. Love. A sense of justice, loyalty, altruism. Duty, responsibility and accountability. The most ironic thing in this whole Rings of Power debacle is that these positive, universally appreciated human traits are the very things that Tolkien wrote into his beloved characters, and are being perverted. He saw true evil. He was stuck in the trenches in WW1. The Lord of the Rings is the most cut and dried tale of Good vs. Evil in our modern time, and reinforces that the best things in the hearts of even the smallest of us can overcome the worst of the world. For Sophie Nomvete to teach her child that the strengths that she sees in these characters on T.V. are, literally, only skin deep and that she should watch this new curated list of black heroes that she is allowed to relate to as a black girl is doing more to reinforce racism and hatred than anything else. This is disgusting. Humans are so much more than gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation. Why don't these people see this?
So far he's scared away some witches who weren't anywhere near finding Sauron. That's helpful and totally worth the excessive amount of time put into a character who has no discernable character as his character arc.
Its like trying to build a house with a rotten foundation. you can put the prettiest house you like on top, but everyone will look at the rotten foundation and the fact its all on a lean and say NOPE
Just turned down a lovely home that unfortunately had a deficient foundation. Cement blocks on dirt not cement piles or supports. Wood beams that didn’t go to the edge of the wall. They built a 150,000$ home on a foundation not suitable for a garden shed. Oh the water heater was just sitting on dirt. Anyway. Good point well made.
its already a stereotype that woman cant help but create drama for no reason....but then these female directors come out and embrace that stereotype. Turn LotR into a CW teen drama.
How do they justify the all female directing team for a English mythology (just as important to us Brits like Shakespeare, Robin Hood & Arthurian legend) which was created by a British Man? How is that something to boast about? Hard miss.
Attacking the fans is all they got. They have to terrorize people into watching their crap. Season one failed, Season 2 is more Season 1. What are they expecting?
Seeing a bunch of old men trying to be hip by using gen-z slang in elvish is painful to watch. If someone asked me the moment geek culture died, I would show them that clip.
By emphasizing looking like a character before you can identify with them, she is also entirely exclufing me from having a connection or caring about her character before I can ever see if I like the character she plays: because as a white man, there'd be no possible way I could identify with a black woman - by her ideology. So, by trying to expand the audience through representation, she is actually limiting it in a far greater way: by her own ideology, her character can only really be meaningful to black women. In the real world, if it was a well-written character that was acted well, anyone could habe had a connection to her character, and anyone could have empathized or sympathized with her story. But if her ideology is right, I not only can't like the character, I shouldn't. Because she doesn't represent me. And as I write that, I see it exposes the HUGE double standard of it all: she can only identify with black actors, but everyone is supposed to celebrate her as a black actor regardless of our color.
Tolkien himself was a heavy leaning anarchist...so for them to use his work for political uses is dumb also, I'm so tired of the narrative of "no one on the screen looked like me"...It's been said and "debunked" every time.
I really enjoy and appreciate the clips you throw in from 'Game On', a great comedy that unfortunately isn't well remembered. I'd like you to throw in some clips from more shows from that era like 'The Brittas Empire' or even going back to older times like 'The Young Ones' and maybe even as far back as 'Steptoe and Son'. You clearly have an extensive knowledge of English comedy and a gift for applying it in the perfect way as a punchline or to express. Plus the nostalgia. Thanks Disparu!
Don't watch it, don't talk about it, let it die. Hate watching's still gonna make them enough money to go on out of spite, that's how we got Velma season 2.
That's the same sentiment that execs had about re-releasing Morbius and it utterly backfired. There's not enough hate watches to make a dent in the massive losses this show will make.
In terms of Shelop: She was an elven lady once. So I personally modeled her, for a diorama, as a crazed female drider instead of a giant spider. Maybe they saw some of the pictures of that and thought "thats a great idea!" 😀
I can tell you now if Tolkien said that parts of the second age were murky. There's only two reasons for that. One is that nothing of any real interest happened... oh yes I really need to know about that time Galadriel fell down a staircase or any more info on an assault of an castle other than whom it was attacked by and who died. I don't need to know everything that happens, I don't need to see it. Two the entire point of certain parts of a fictional history being murky is to leave it open to interpretation like real history is. We don't know everything about anything in our own past. Both are these are fundamental for a fantasy world at the scale of LOTR. Tolkien would have to live for a few centuries to be able to write everything he wanted to in that world and even than he'd have so many ideas spilling out of his mind, he'd run out of paper. None of the murky parts should be filled in by two dipsticks who couldn't even begin to write their own fantasy as grand as Tolkien even if they had all the time in the world.
I've never said bs like that as a kid. I've never needed to see myself in the characters I read and watch. I don't look like Luffy but I've loved One Piece since I was a kid. I'm not a woman but I can emphasize with Nami and Robin. I'm not Trans but I love Bon Clay and Ivankov. These people are just embracing evil therefore they are.
What's really funny about all of this is that they(Payne and Mackay) give the impression that they actually think they are doing something great That will be remembered and loved by the fans for years to come.

As Tolkien wrote about these 'older legends':
"Nearly all are grim and tragic: a long account of the disasters that destroyed the beauty of the Ancient World, from the darkening of Valinor to the Downfall of Númenor and the flight of Elendil. And there are no hobbits. Nor does Gandalf appear."
And he writes about the Second Age in letters:
"The three main themes (of the Second Age) are thus The Delaying Elves that lingered in Middle-earth; Sauron's growth to a new Dark Lord, master and god of Men; and Numenor-Atlantis.
It ends with the overthrow of Sauron and destruction of the second visible incarnation of evil"
So the showrunners and writers don't even what kind of story they are dealing with...not a story of the simple folk, everyman characters, but actual legendary heroes, mighty warriors, great kings and rulers, great houses and their struggles, larger than life figures, nobles and exceptional individuals.... they also don't know that the stories deal with the corruption of power, temptation, fear of death and desire of deathlessness.
Bullshit. Little children don't see color/race, they just see a character that they want to be like.

May as well go full demented OC😂

How is ROP true to Tolkien's themes, exactly? It lacks the fundamental values and wisdom on the part of the writers to do that.
but it is in the title... lokk... there it is written... Lord Of The Rings... so it MUST be Tolkien, right? 🤮🤮🤮
Like the amount of psychotic bat shit crazy ego behind that is insane.
i do... first, they probably never read the stories and second is it far easier to blame others than face acountablility by oneself.
"It's hollywood, baby"
Don't expect anything except sociopathic egoism.
I just finished watching the White Council clip. They were spot on with Galadriel. This ROP completely misses the feel of Middle Earth and the characters. Shoving diversity throughout this show is only one of many missteps they've made.
White Council ? Didn't that start in the third age with Wizards and the elf lords?

That line in the beginning is total Vegan Cat material.
And it's about wealth too, a poor native one can have it more difficult than a non native rich one.
if you look into the ttrpg games and the ScieFi-genre, you will find Mike Pondsmith, who created Cyberpunk - the first of its genre - in the late 80's

Imagine:
A) You've been such a terrible parent that your child feels insecure and unable to emphasize with people if they don't share her skin colour.
B) You'd lie your kid would say that.
C) You don't want your race to define you, yet you still want it to define everyone else.

"the audience is right by default"
Even if the showrunners could win the argument, a ridiculous idea, all they would have done is proven that the show is not for me. And if everyone like me did the same, they would quickly run out of audience to yell at.
There are not millions of people waiting in the wings thinking, "I'd love to watch TV and movies, if only I was represented in them." No. The people who are watching are the people who want to watch. They're the only audience you have.
Maybe they found the Elvish words for loose and woman.

At this point it wouldn’t surprise me that they will make Arwen the daughter of Galadriel and Sauron who was adopted by Elrond to appease the cucked Celeborn

As a fan of Tolkien ... this makes me cry and my wallet to lock itself up.
They turned Sauron into Moses? "Let my people go."

Who is the Stranger? What really matters is Why is the Stanger?
So far he's scared away some witches who weren't anywhere near finding Sauron. That's helpful and totally worth the excessive amount of time put into a character who has no discernable character as his character arc.
Can't wait to watch Galadriel taking over the time ripper again.
This is planet earth, not planet wack.
Tolkien himself was a heavy leaning anarchist...so for them to use his work for political uses is dumb
also, I'm so tired of the narrative of "no one on the screen looked like me"...It's been said and "debunked" every time.
I've always liked Tolkien's Dwarves...... I'm 5'10" and human, do I have to not like them any more because I'm too tall??
"But you can look like this character! Just look at these ten other people who are not that character!"

Are they trying to make sauron into moses with that let my people go line?
I don’t think I have ever heard of a film or tv show that filmed and continued production without the Showrunner and writers. Crazy.
I'm so freakin' hyped for the show.
It'll be fun to see it go down in flames once more. ❤️
Agreed, the sh*tshow it results in is more entertaining than the show itself.
10:49. "Let my people go" Why are they writing Sauron, when talking to Adar, the same as Moses talking to the Pharaoh in the Bible ? 😂
