Having worked in kitchen fitting for a while I would always route from es underneath for worktop bolts and would glue on a laminate edging then file it down to be flush. I would also always cut roughly with a circular saw then route it clean

You forgot to mention. When you take a pencil line for the worktop at the end of unit, before you cut allow 20mm from the line.
