    A short time ago I discovered your channel, I am very happy to have done it, your videos are excellent, the editing is impeccable, clarity, and simplicity, coupled with the fact that you are a very experienced and capable modeler. In short, a great channel and a great modeler, an opening from Mexico City.

    Hi Greg your paintwork, is as usual in a class of its own, if i would see a real Lightning cockpit, i would expect it to look like yours.
    Thanks for another fantastic tutorial. It is hard to wait for part 2-
    Happy modeling Lars

    Very relaxing viewing and listening, I like the way you say "that'll do" or "won't bother with that" yet the end result is always top class. I can't stand these rivet counting critics but I see this is yet another Lightning kit which doesn't supply the rubber viewing boot for the radar screen.

    Absolutely beautiful cockpit; one of the best I’ve ever seen. I’ve also started cutting everything off the sprues when I build as it really stops me losing my mojo mid build. Thanks so much for all you do Greg; keep it coming, you’re an inspiration mate.

    Always wanted to build this beautiful plane. The kit detail is nice but the Aries stuff looks fantastic. But realistically I haven’t got the time and eyesight is just not up to it these days. I’ll just enjoy it vicariously here! Really nice work but that’s what it takes to get a result.
    Still got a Zoukei-Mura Ta-152 with all the metal add-ons sitting around as well as the Pacific Coast 1/32 Macchi, Reggiane and Fiat G55 NIB. I’ll probably chuck them on eBay international.

    Lightning's intakes were natural metal all the way down to the engines. The only other colour down there was a semi gloss black "spraymat" heated area where the intake divided between no1 and no2 engines.

    • @tonysteer5670
      @tonysteer5670 3 роки тому

      As you say they were polished aluminium. I remember crawling past the radome on numerous occasions in order to work on the heat exchanger. Had to seal it if I remember correctly. Happy days at RAF Binbrook in the mid - eighties!

      @tweeky8687 3 роки тому

      @@tonysteer5670 Slid past that bullet so many times 5 Sqn 80-85 the worst time was Cyprus , the pilots would taxi in on one engine usually the No1, denims on and straight down the intake as the engine stops. Down to the No2 check that before it gets far to hot then back out to the no1 check that out then out. Repeat for the next jet until the line was done, you'd loose a few lbs in sweat. The Intakes used to get "wadpolled" (Duraglit on steroids) on check servicings.

    If they do nothing else, resin parts ought to fit the base model - they aren't much use otherwise, are they?

  • @stevepritchard3970
    @stevepritchard3970 3 роки тому

    Great start Greg. Aires stuff always looks good - but as you discovered, fit can sometimes be an issue. Not sure if they always have the actual kit to test fit on before releasing their upgrades - doesn't look like they did for the Lightning.

    An interesting video. The resin parts look a bit of a nightmare. Many years ago I made 3off 1/6th scale WW1 howitzers and used a lot of moulds and resin. Unfortunately over the years the resin tends to shrink and distort so the models haven't aged well at all. I wouldn't really touch the stuff now and for one offs I use the plasticard, modelling putty and wire. It takes a lot longer but that to me is the value of these models, the longer it takes to build them the more value for money really.

    Hi mate, love this kit and I cant wait to see your final build! I have been looking for the shark mouth decals which went out of production a long time ago, this is as I have a family connection to XS903, if you are planning on building an alternative aircraft from the silver set, could i possibly buy sheet X32018 from you? That would be incredible, my great uncle flew this a shark mouth lightning F.6 and to build that as something to remember him by would mean the world! Thanks, Dave

    As usual,the resin parts are beautiful but figment is so so. Trumpeter has a great release schedule but their ambitions make them hurry and the kits suffer accuracy and fit issues. This is why I rarely buy Trumpeter kits. I have the 1/200 Bismarck and in general it’s a decent kit,but the bow is not correct and I had to do some considerable changing of shape to get it to look correct.

    Building a Trumpeter at the moment (first kit for mefrom them) and find the fit generally bloomin awful. Gappy as anything, even had pins in wrong place (a male-male connection at one point). Swear the scale is wrong too. The old gamble on ‘at what point am I going to end up throwing this across the room?’ :D
