In Italy we have a proverb: "under the snow, there is food". That's related with the natural mulch made by the snowy blanket, which protect the soil and contributes to regenerate it Thanks for your very interesting contents 🌱
I grow all winter and provide produce to a local farm store in zone 8a which used to be zone 7b in a 50ft x 16ft gothic pro tunnel from Farmer's Friend converted to roll-up sides. I also use mini-hoops & row cover inside to cover the crops when the temperatures dip into the 20's. Key is like Catherine said is to establish the crops before the light levels drop & cold temps arrive. We have a bit more time in North Carolina and don't have the extremes that Northern climates have. I am growing Tatsoi, Tokyo Bekana, Red Sails Lettuce, Cilantro, Salad mix, Arugula, and Collards. I have been doing this for several years successfully with no heat. The other key is to roll down the sides 2-3hrs before sunset to trap the heat in the tunnel & keep the ground warm.
Same with my Dino kale plants , they had bolted and I left them to “dry up and rot “ next thing I knew there were a bunch of shoots growing and I have 3x the kale from each plant 🙂
cest vraiment pas assez populaire... meme chez moi en raised beds... des cerceaux... couvertes a jardin... jai encore du bokchoy :-) 14 decembre a montreal
@@janew5351 at all...its a small hoop i got on wh perron like 9feet x 3 feet wide... its netting and bought some garden clothes (the white ones) works really good. next year like she said i will plant earlier.. for me i think sept 25th... and maybe another succession oct 1st.. it always depends of our fall weather. mustard, tatsoi are also did good. but i was a bit late this year i will be more proactive next year.
i even have big plastic i could put on top ... lolll i dont use them...i grow indoor instead at that point. no herbs or cherry tomatoes.. green oignons to buy all winter.. its part of my routine... i work from home since 2020
Great video give us more Catherine! she's great!
Probably the best video on winter gardening i ever saw, don't understand how it doesn't have millions of views.

One year my kale started to regrow from the prev year plant in spring with no cover.
Last year my brocolli did the same thing.

😮 lots of snow… non in Toronto yet!
I want to know what she is wearing! This jacket looks fantastic and seems like it would withstand work.
I think it is from Growers & Co which is another project affiliated with this farm
It is a Growers & Co jacket
J’aime bcp vos vidéo. Très inspirant! La roquette semée en octobre, c’était début ou fin octobre?
La réponse est dans le livre winter harvest Eliot Coleman
What is the name of the extra cover in the tunnel shown with bok choy?
She has row covers over them
AgriBon is the most commonly available product - it comes in multiple weights usually A-19 or A-30 is used for overwintering
I just found agribon 30 at Vesseys in PE I ! I had ordered agr 16 and 19 but not seen 30 before.
Something to order next time.
11:14 stop trying to make fetch happen

Wow bok choy in Montreal in Dec.! Do you heat a tunnel or greenhouse?
