Thank you for posting these. I just got back into this game after getting a PS5. Playing this game at checkerboard 4K at 60fps is transformative, utter Masterpiece of a game
Awesome talk and really good speaker. He really know his job, hats off. For me, among all the companions in video games and aside from Artreus, the other really well made and balanced AI companion for me was Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite (yeah guyz, go replay the game and you'll see what I'm talking about). Ooh gosh I loved her on my side everytime I played the game and I did it 5 times at least along the years.
Atreus is the best son character in all of gaming, the last fight of the game truly brought tears to my eyes. ive never felt so strongly for a father and son duo before, great job guys! you nailed Atreus!
Great talk and a lot of interesting points to take away regarding AI companions and just AI "creeps" as a whole. Good job and congrats on making the best AI companion seen in games...without ever working on one prior ;)
It'd take a lot of work and effort, but if they remaster this game on PS5 or have a major update, it'd be interesting if there was a mode allowing a second player to control Atreus. Maybe a part of a sequel?
Atreus is way better than Ellie. She broke immersion, she was annoying and I didnt care about her no matter how much the game tried to make her endearing. With Atreus I think connected almost immediately, great job dude
I kinda hope they play with Atreus becoming more autonomous or expanding his tools greatly. Even if some turn into duds a good design idea would be to let players turn off certain tools or skills if they don't like it.
@@shaokhan4421 I was caught in two thoughts when I typed this. I was getting annoyed with a skill but I can't remember what it was on Kratos. But when I last played you were unable to turn off abilities after purchasing them.
And only thing they had to do is to play Buoshock Infinite where Elizabeth is the best ai companion to have. She didn't need aid, helped a lot with ammo and health, cracked codes and doors.
It's interesting. When I was playing God Of War it just felt like you pressed square and atreus does something .you couldn't direct specific moves like a brothers in arms game commanding teams to flank enemies. you can't direct atreus to attack specific targets
@@louiegallagher990 those devs are top notch. Cory is great director and brings the best of those geniuses, like Cory said in a recent tweet, his work is to say "can it be bigger?"
Words can't describe how happy I feel whenever we get some more behind the scenes of God of War's development, thank you Santa Monica Studio and GDC!
I can't imagine the sequel.
This Hayato guy is worth more than whatever they are paying him. What a smart guy.
Plus he worked on The Saboteur so that just makes him fucking epic
Nice try Hayato!
Awesome! I'm just a gamer, but I am fascinated to see developers talking about this kind of stuff
same here!
Agreed, gives you a larger perspective about the ups and downs of game development
They really did well with Atreus, when he's gone you really miss him especially on harder difficulties
These videos are so cool. I can't wait for Raising Kratos documentary
Is so beautiful.
Atreus is the best AI companion so far
Lmfao Kratos and Atreus's voices in the prototype gameplay. Imagine if they kept those voices in.
Kratos sounds like a normal ass man lol I want to hear him say "leave my home"
That's probably the combat developers themselves to test out their ideas, but yeah, it was hilarious
This was epic...can't wait for raising kratos
The father-and-son combos vs Bauldar near the end of the game was so satisfying! Thank you SMS for your awesome work!!

Boy, what an informative talk ^^

I wanted to make this cotrection😂

"Welcome to the most boring talk"
Proceeds to make me crack up within 2 minutes
This lecture is neat!

Great talk.
32:11 that kratos skin needs to be part of the game.
What's very odd is you never hear anyone mention the companion AI in BioShock Infinite, which was brilliantly done.
Great talk and a lot of interesting points to take away regarding AI companions and just AI "creeps" as a whole. Good job and congrats on making the best AI companion seen in games...without ever working on one prior ;)
What a funny dude! xD
53:48 that runic never made it in the game that shit looks sick lmao
i want to see mihir's talk.
the person who made combat.
can someone give me a link to that video?
It's in the GDC vault. You need to pay a membership to GDC to see it on their site. They don't make every video accessible on UA-cam.
Ayoul is it worth it? Learnt a crazy amount so far
@@shaokhan4421 I actually haven't checked it out yet. It's definitely on my to do list.
super interesting, thanks for sharing :)
This vid made appreciate Boy more i don't notice some of these while i was playing and i played god of war 3times 😂😅
I'm kinda triggered the dude never mentioned Elizabeth from Bioshock Infinite as an example for a great support

Doesn't Atreus break immersion as he can't die during gameplay/combat?
@@robotcapital4774 He's a God though so you can accept that he doesn't die easily.
Honestly the fact that he's a God and doesn't know it, so everything god like is just normal to him was great immersion.
why can you neglect atreus in the skill tree
I kinda hope they play with Atreus becoming more autonomous or expanding his tools greatly. Even if some turn into duds a good design idea would be to let players turn off certain tools or skills if they don't like it.
Junkyard Productions they did that...? You could choose what skills you upgrade of his and how much he gets involved based on what skill

I didn't have that problem. He always hit who I wanted him to.
Shittiest game of all time
no cory no watch
Nobody cares
This game would not exist without all the little ideas each programmer adds to the grand vision
