sick fortress design! so well organized, I also like the idea of remaining just below the royal population threshold, hadn't seen such a well established fort with that strategy. two tips: 1) at the beginning of the video there is like 21 seconds of silence before the video starts, if you use youtube's built in edit features to trim that out it will probably improve your retention rate and the algorithm will share your video more. 2) for your circus breach "danger hallway" consider making a checkerboard pattern via construction and/or mining. The checkerboard blocks orthogonal sightlines and projectiles, so it makes webs, fire, gas, etc much less dangerous, helps to prevent your squads from getting taken out from afar before they can strike.
Thanks! So I've heard of the checkerboard strategy, and have plans to implement it at the end of a long spear trap, ballista hallway. The twitch stream is a couple years old but this channel is young. I'm sadly still a novice editor but I've been watching and plan to cut the next video properly.
I clicked on this expecting a video about basic hallway layout tips, but WOW you put a lot of interesting ideas in this fort. Can't wait to try some of these myself
7:15 Funny thing is, sometimes it's better use rooms 6x6 blocks and designate two 3x3 areas in it with adjacent beds for dwarves of opposite sex to... "socialize". And increase your population in the end. Also, it kinda saves space. And what about other two 3x3 blocks you might ask? Designate it as their personal dining rooms.
Only dwarves with very high skills and also known for arguments, anger and starting fights receive a personal dining room within my kingdoms. Any unhappy dwarves without high skills are either sent on suicide raid missions with far distant enemies or they're just kicked from the kingdom.
This is so cool! I'm so afraid of the caverns man lmao I love all the buildings and social complexity but that shit scares me so much, partially because of how complicated the squad/barracks system seems to be.
oh wow. Only yesterday did I learn how to place a well. There's clearly a shed load more for me to learn. I understood about 3 things in the first 2:37 of the video. I doubt I'll understand more but I'll sub for sure. LYW mate. Thanks for posting.
Great fortress design - mine always end up on the compact side… not within any particular size constraint, I just tend to put rooms close together. Having seen this I’m going to intentionally go big next time.
Me personally, I'd build some drawbridges on the doors that you have that webspitter locked up in, just in case this fort survives until building destroyers get their main ability back, but aside from that, great stuff indeed!
The developers of dwarf fortress usually work in an unpredictable random pattern. Critical bugs such as markdwarves not picking up bolts remain unfixed... yet the developers will spend time allowing a few animals to "roll into a ball".
I now trying to get minecarts work as a main way to transport stuff between workshops and mining sites. One minecart can contain 5 rocks and you can manage where those rocks will go. Also minecarts that guided by dwarfes ignore laws of physics and can go through each other, so you can build just one line of rails that goes everythere and don't worry about somebody being squashed to mist. So its just a matter of one dwarf hauling 5 rocks at once. The only drawback of this system is the interface and a lack of any sorting and searching for a specifically named stockpile or route, or dwarf and you need to scroll through a lot of shit.
I stil have no understanding why I can link some zones to other meeting areas, like dining hall to tavern or collecting sand zone to guildhall. Does it have kinda priveleges in something?
Holy hell that's a very advanced fortress, I am curious to see what the FPS is if you unpause it. *chefs kiss* Is there a reason you don't use quantum stockpiles?
All players have many fortresses die horribly from fires, flooding, monsters, magma, demons, raiders, undead, etc., etc., . Only after many failures does someone successfully build a fortress which survives hundreds of years.
forgotten beasts being so trivial to you that they simply became a resource
I like how the water shotgun turns all enemies into compost for the tree farm. Good stuff.

@@CancelTV You can edit the video after its been uploaded, via youtube creator studio.
@@paulyounger1190 Check it now, did I do it right?

I also don't like taking care of the nobles, which is why I have a lever that drops the person who pulls it into the center of the volcano.

I prefer them to eat in my legendary dining room...

Base looks dope, good stuff. 👍
Thanks bro!

This is Einstein level base design. Most people have trouble getting population above 100, but you are keeping population below 140?

Great design this is helping me big time when i start buiding my second fortress
I would love to see an update on this, ive never played the game but know of it, your base logistics are incredible

holy crap...you could do an advanced tutorial series (if you haven't already). lots of good stuff.
love this

Great fort! I have no questions since I've got nothing about how's this done.
no questions about the mysterious clothes at the bottom of the floodpit, presumably never recovered from the victims?
I've been using 3x3 stairs for my main shaft. Where'd you hear about them being a source of lag? (I'm laggy asf, lol)
Nice base!

Would love to see your work orders and how you automate all that
New to DF, did you plan this out from the get go or is this evolved from a humble beginning lol

have you tried the new multithreading option on the experimental branch?
What's your hauling setup like? Does everyone do it? Kids only?
The only thing I got worried about in hauling is if I have enough wheelbarrows.
why did I get a queen with 18 dwarfs in the first year lol. No where near able to meet her needs
How do you keep 100 dwarves busy
How do you keep your population so low? I have close to 200 dwarves and they keep coming...
Edited down for vids or overview vids would be dopee
This is some high level tism
Thanks bro!
@@CancelTV hopefully this helps your channel blow up!
@@JimJamTheAdmin are you ok?
