Merlin, I’m so glad I found your channel through FabRats. I enjoyed everything I’ve seen you do with Steve. You’re so full of knowledge it’s a joy to be able to see what you work on.
I’m excited to see the Mini Semi finished.
Also what you’re doing with Wes is nothing less than special. I love that he wants to and is willing to learn your trade. A big thank you for bringing hope and knowledge to a younger generation.
Merlin, I wish you had kept recording about your town you grew up in. I’m from East Kentucky and I think that area is beautiful and I love to hear your history, as well. Great video. I have been a fan of Paul and Michelle for a long time and that’s how I found your channel.
I'm from Eastern Kentucky, maybe bloody Harlan might ring a bell with you...lol just glad to see someone close to home on here!
@@shanecarmechanik2893 I’m from Letcher county originally. Live in Magoffin county now.
@@klc3478 that's awesome I live right on the Harlan letcher county line near c-land, just an old dirty coal miner. But it's just cool to see an ol local hillbilly on here. Cause you know as well as I do there is nothing around here and it's getting no better..
@@shanecarmechanik2893 that's true. My brothers and other relatives live there still. Lord willing, I'm moving my family closer to Lexington soon. I have two autistic sons and one Is in therapy there and the other needs it and I can't afford to drive it anymore. Let's go Brandon.
Amen I wish you the best! And those boys also, I have a nephew pretty far up on the spectrum and could use better care than what we have around here..
Merlin.... I can't hear your pearls of wisdom. TURN SOMETHING UP DUDE..
Paul at fab rats has gave us a lot of good content one of his best was introducing us to your channel you definitely owe him I bet I’m not the only one here from fab rats y’all definitely need to do some kind of colab build or project 👍🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing 👍😀
I am so Glad that Fab Rats turned me onto your channel. you have a great work ethic and I appreciate the BS attitude! you get down to it and speak your mind and the truth about everything. I didn't know about the Fram oil filters. Thanks Merlin.
Your relation to Paul is evident in your speech delivery. 👍
Thank you from KSA.
I love your “ families are forever” policy. I agree and I love to see your family work together, and the fact you are passing this awesome knowledge and experience on . Keep up the great job 👏
I enjoyed this video. Thanks Merlin.
A Master at his Craft!
Cool. You're in. 👍
Love the tri color too cool 57 my favorite car
You and paul not surprising your cousins, always waiting for your next vido I'm always learning something new and exciting.
Great video! Awesome to see the rest of the story ❤️✅😎
You went and packed that motor full of goodness! There will be burnouts!
Thanks Merlon! Your toy collection is about as cool as it gets. You move pretty quick in tear down mode...lol
Absolutely excellant
That was a cool video on the motor rebuild. So glad Paul turned me on to your channel. Can't wait to see Landon's LS get built too.
I love it out there. Put it in the middle an the peddle to the floor.
I'll subscribe.
What a treat it is to see what you're doing for your cousin Paul. I've always done my own maintenance but I know nothing about the newer vehicles with computers! LOL!! You're knowledge just amazes me!!
Well that was tome well spent!
Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
Merlin... this is such a special video! Thanks for helpin a bro. out!
Patience and more patience are most likely the key to success.
And Merlin YOU proved to have PLENTY.
Thanks for the video...🤠🇿🇦
I'm more of a Purolator guy myself.
It's just the most beautiful thing, family that is there for each other. For those of us who didn't have that, it is a glimpse into what we missed out on. I, for one, enjoy this.
Watching you get that motor going from that sunken boat got me here . Plus I really like your puppy......keep on pushing your projects brother we only get one go around in this rodeo .
Great 👍 love the work.
Favorite new channel...came here from cousin Paul's Fab rats.
Im glad to see someone finally getting to the bottom of the problems with that motor because Paul is rough on a motor and we all knew something was wrong no one really knew the problem but I think it will be good now
Throughly enjoyed the video.
Enjoying your channel Merlin. I watched all of you guys getting the boat out of the lake, taking it back to your house. What a great recovery for being under water for 30 years. Really enjoyed watching all of you guys coming together and excited about seeing if this motor will run again. Later after cleaning and putting it back together “wow “ it’s “alive “. Paul asked for viewers to comment on “why” is this possible, after 30 years? Okay here is my version on “why”. It was “destined “ to happen. I think you should name the boat “DESTINY “what is your take on this?
This was so rad to see your side of the motor build for the tow truck Merlin. I would have loved to ride along to hear all about the builds of the highway and all. What a great video!
I enjoyed this video a lot, the little tips & tricks and the dissection and explanation on the oil filter are exactly the kind of thing I love watching. I’ve been working on cars my whole life and knew not to use Fram stuff but it’s awesome to see exactly why. I love an old school Chevy build but I’m also a Cummins/diesel guy so I can’t wait to see you share some knowledge on those as I’m sure you know some stuff I don’t. Keep it up and keep filming what you do, it’s more interesting to others than you realize.
Great to have cousin’s that are great at building stuff😁.👍
I was watching the tow truck games and I realized I never watched Paul go through this motor. When I searched You had built it before I had subscribed to this channel. This motor ripps man well done.
excellent video. glad I was able to find this channel through the fabrats channel
Been waiting for this video to drop since Paul's video friday .ps this is the first time since you tube started that I got a 1st comment.
@@MerlinsOldSchoolGarage absolutely enjoyed it and learned I've gotta get rid of a oil filter on my wife's car lol guessing I'll go back to Purolator
Man I can’t wait for Wes for comeback and work on that truck! He did a great job on the welding it hard to learn how to watch the puddle!
Great video Merlin...
I Love the Virgin River Gorge blew a radiator hose there once was amazed how steep it is.driving towards it from Nevada it looks like a solid rock wall. That Motor will be a heartbeat in Paul’s truck when Graders takes over. Thanks for sharing
Awesome 👍👍
Loved your video... best way for me to hang out and watch you work and not bug the crap out of you.
Great show, Paul will appreciate what your doing for your uncle and his dad, I put a Fram filter on my 72 Montecarlo and next day it stopped up my recently built 350 was making some noise, it was right after the orange ones came out.
Excellent video, great job
Thanks for sharing!
Always enjoy watching what ever you have going on!
man that is some beauti country.
Great show.
First time watcher ,, like the way you think about building up engines, nice shop! a man is only as good as his friends
Always cool to ride along in the ole 97!
So Wise , Thank You . Merry Christmas
Love the video it'd always cool to see you at Paul's the motor special project Uncle Cherman's truck is coming along great 👍 and I guess it explains what happened to that motor in the first place you seen all the parts when you where walking around 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 a piece from this motor should do a piece from that motor should do , Paul's famous words 🤪
Hey my buddy and I made it into the end of the video! Was nice to meet you Merlin!
Great episode! 👍😀
Wow great job on the engine rebuild, I miss doing that myself. Love being around people like yourself, oldschool and taking your time and doing it right. Great job. Keep up the great work. P.s yes the gas prices are absolutely out of this world.
We pay 2.60 per litter and there's 4.5 litres in a gallon lol enjoy your long drives
Can’t wait to hear it run and see it in action I’m sure Paul is going to be very happy with it you da man
awesome motor!! i like driving the virgin river gorge but it was with a KW T680 with open deck 53' flat bed trailer
Seeing that ATC 250R was a flashback from my youth!!! My parents regretted buying that for me the first time I blew past them on the highway with it. Ha ha. Always enjoy watching your content!!!
I love that trike! I owned an 81, 83 and an 85! The glory days of Honda!
Aloha Merlin and I must say you are really cool guy love the way that you approach work calm and collected keep it up!!!
Merlin, Really enjoyed watching your videos and interactions with Fab-Rats, etc. Keep up the good works. Sincerely, Thom Moore from West Columbia, SC.
I also found your channel from Fab Rats, love the content. Coming from Australia were most of us live near the coast I enjoy the scenery were you guys live. Wish the interior of our country was more assessable like yours.
That is so cool that you and Paul are cousins.👍👍
great content..... stay genuine... views will come...
Awesome Merlin I'm glad 😊 you have your own show love all the videos love the diesel I'm a nut for diesel I drive around a 03 Duramax love watching Paul to fab rats anyway ✌️ stay cool AZ.
Smooth !
As far as oil filters, motorcraft is the way to go! Cheap and really good, flow all most as good as k and n.
Love Southern Utah, I'm up north in Tooele but my brother owns a "summer" house in Kanab. Beautiful place to go four wheeling.
Nice job ..
True talent.👍
Thank you Sir. I enjoy watching your work. And appreciate you taking the time to share. All the best, from New Zealand. Cheers
Love the video
I can tell the family resemblance listening to you and Paul, you both talk alike
I’ve been through the Virgin River gorge several times to and from Mesquite Nevada to St. George. Where I live for four months. Still wished I lived down that way. Love the weather love the scenery. Things didn’t work out for me too well down there in St. George. So I ended up having to move back to Michigan. Would love to come back and visit sometime soon.
You got good family.
Found your channel a while ago thru Paul. Had to subscribe right away. Between you, Paul and Steve from Welderup, there is way too much knowledge for this 75 yr. old brain to absorb but certainly enjoying watching.
What's a better oil filter? Love the engine rebuild, learning a lot. Thanks
So enjoy watching you work and enjoying the ride while traveling, keeping in touch with family is very important now a days. I have 4 cousins I haven’t seen in over 40 years, we could pass one another and never know it. Keep up the great videos, nice and simple, easy to edit and view!
Hey Merlin!!! GOOD for Paul that you are an engine builder too !!! Great work & Waiting to see your ""Little 18 "" Rolling with a trailer for sure !! Have a good week & Thanks for the ride to Paul's !!! 🙃😉🤔🤠😎😎😎😮
Great video
I was working on a project running loads from California to Idaho they started started that construction back in September or October last year definitely some beautiful country there
Only thing I like about FRAM is the grip. The rough coating on the end gives your palm a slip-free surface when dry & almost slip-free if it gets oily so it can be wrenched on//off by hand (if you have a strong grip).
His demeanor, I watched more intently than him building the engine. SImply yet nicely produced content. I havent seen this channel before, Ive been watching Paul for a few months. Now Im gonna go down this rabbit hole of videos!
I like the way you approach building a motor. Very common sense. I love that country down there and in fact I have a place in Kanab that I plan on retiring to in the next 4 to 5 years. I'm in the process of getting ready to build a big shop on my property and take on more of my motorcycle projects.
Keep doing what you're doing filming it. I truly enjoy watching how you go about doing things.
Sorry I'm late to the party but love this channel watching your videos and Paul's I'm now out in garage again broken foot and all hope everything is well taker easy.
Just started watching your channel I just love how relaxed you make your videos and the information you share is awesome keep it up big fan of FabRats that's how i found you, p.s.love the Cummins powered boat wow super job on that and the kool powered hacksaw never seen one of them before!
Thanks to Paul for giving heads up on your channel. Building engines and trannies are two of my fav vids. Subscribed immediately. Thanks for the video.
Thanks, very interesting. I watch Fab Rats all the time, now you.
I was up that highway twice weeks ago. Came from Matt's, going to Paul's. NO one around so finally took selfies in drive with shop behind me. Then on to Robby Laytons. Next trip I'll have to stop by your place if you don't mind. Subscribed and happy to oblige. Great video, thank you and looking for more.
Dude, I love WIX. I have tried many brands and models and unless you count $20 filters I haven’t found a better one.
What brand of oil filters would you recommend?
Thanks for not spreading the misconception that the end caps are bad because they're not made of metal. Fram has stood behind their products and given great support in my experience on Bob is the oil Guy forums (unlike the well documented issue of Purolator ignoring all their customers while their filter media was tearing left and right).
Having a metal sleeve is normal in the vast majority Fram filters. Only the super cheap ones have plastic supports.
The flapper valve you're referring to is the anti drain back valve. It keeps oil in the engine while it's off and has nothing to do with the bypass valve on the top of the filter cartridge. There's a spring and a plastic valve on top of the cartridge that allows oil to bypass. The cartridge stays in place during operation.
Built and delivered, nice.
Thanks for the build & tech, interesting... And, of course, the ride along. Smiles & chuckles all along. (tho I definitely need to locate on the map for that 11 bridges in 9 miles, must be awesome terrain.). Thanx's Greatly.
Old school is always the best way to go. you use hands on experance
Thoroughly enjoy watching you work on engines. Brings back great memories of working with my grandfather on engines and body work in my childhood and teen years !
Thanks for the fun content Merlin! Jeff 👍
If I ever win the lottery and I’m building a car I would pay you and Paul your weight in gold to build me a car! This is based on your connections alone! And then looking at you building this motor you make me think I can do it dammit! You’re a good man at explaining what you are doing.I can definitely tell this is your passion! Please keep making videos we enjoy them a lot!💯👊🏽👊🏽✌🏾💨
Awesome video you have a great way of explaining things thank you so much
I enjoy all of your videos! I have made many trips through that Gorge traveling from So Cal to Colorado & Wyo. Glad I moved from Cali though. Spent countless weekends in Bullhead City jet boating on the river. Sure do miss those days.
Came over from Fab Rats. I loved the Welder Up series, glad you're still working on motors and look forward to watching more
I love that part of the country
Haha, Paul loves them Fram filters!
This video is phenomenal because it is shot and edited in a way that is relaxing and easy to watch. The pace and refreshing lack of music makes it feel like you are actually in the garage learning. Thanks, Merlin.
I don’t care for slick productions either. Much rather listen to Merlin mumble:)
You can only please some of the people some of the time..... those "flashy" productions are generally a direct result of viewer feedback. So. I mean it's a knives edge these creators walk, right. Time lapse anything is better with music. But what the f do I know. I just watch
