Just wanted to add this as a disclaimer: I rush this guide out as SOON as we clear on day 1. So some of the information might only be accurate to like 90% but it's always accurate enough to help you guys get a clear. The challenge info was also the info we went off and based our 2nd clear around, so these might not be the EXACT challenges, but they were what we did to get past the challenge mode. Hopefully that makes sense, if you guys want to drop any clarifications in the comments feel free to do so. Edit: 1. Expunging for Ir Yut and Crota doesn't actually seem to prevent wipe. This is what it seemed like when we ran Ir Yut, so apparently this just gives a large damage increase. When used on Crota, we never noticed a massive increase in our damage, so we weren't sure if there was a different mechanic behind this.
As far as I know the Ir Yut expunge mechanic is just a dmg mechanic to do a little more dmg like the ogre encounter in King's Fall. You wipe when you don't hit the damage threshold, which the expunge helps with
Important error about Ir Yut: Expunging her does NOT prevent the wipe. Simply dealing enough damage will stop her from wiping, although the threshold on her healthbar seems to be slightly smaller than the actually threshold needed. My team beat her without ever expunging once. It appears that the expunge is a slight damage bonus against the boss, which should be used as damage starts, not ends.
@@gmeinersYTalso, for the second encounter, you can cross the bridge without dying before you start the encounter by jumping on the rocks as high up as you can to the right of the starting area. You can then shatterskate across and if you time your double jump right, you can go over the top of the invisible wall that gives you the debuf that kills you. So you can then start the encounter with people starting on the other side. Just thought id share what our group found out
Spent 7 hours on Crota yesterday going through lfg. I would do my best to explain the mechanics but people would not understand. Hard when after two wipes people leave😭
For Yut encounter you get wiped if you dont do enough damage threshold, not because you have not expunged enlighten. Expunges are like just a chunk of damage to the boss.
Great job on the video, not too long, very informative, and I'm definitely going to have to watch this at least three more times. These raid mechanics makes RoT look like kindergarten homework.
Here's a tip for the wizards; if there are screechers your radar will react as if there is a vehicle, so you'll get the shaded red cones when there are screechers, which will tell you where the witches are.
On mini map.If it's a red circle it's a shrieker. Inside the circle is an arrow. If up its above your and down it's below. You have to kinda squint to see it depending on your monitor and color settings.
2nd encounter is a nightmare. We came up with a small strat. Grab chalice in beginning don't build bridges get your totem ppl enlighten and 2 more. One to use on bridge acceleranr and keep as extra to pick up sword. Then start standing on plates. Also 3rd encounter on the right side you can't see the wizard or shreiker behind the pillars. But on the mini map. If it's a red circle it's a shrieker. Look inside that red circle. The arrow pointing up shrieker is up. Good luck.
Do you think bungie will address the crota challenge triumph bug where it doesnt complete even if you did challenge? Happened to my team. Also, I believe that expunge does give you damage since we swapped from 2 oversoul for final to 2 expunges on cooked final
Prolly just me but I really dislike that contest mode is really just throwing wells till something sticks, no idea what the solution is cause I don't wanna delete well but I just dislike contest mode basically requiring stacking wells to even make good progress
What is the trigger for building the bridge in the abyss? We cleared it legit by using every lamp and preservation spot but not before just trying to grapple our way up there and skipping everything. I know you don’t need to use every lamp, so is the trigger for the bridge that every preservation point must be used?
I understand that they wanted to make this raid hard. But I honestly don't like that they change all these old raids and add a bunch of new mechanics . One reasons I like the old raids is because not every single raid has to be so mechanic heavy. It's like when I play zombies on call of duty. The maps made by the original creator Jimmy Zielinski are really bear bones and a basic experience, for those who just want to sit back and relax and play zombies and get right into it. Meanwhile, the maps made by Jason Blundell were all heavy on easter egg steps. And sure you had some good maps like origins and mob of the dead. I did like them. But then bo3 rolls around and every map is easter egg heavy. Point is, i'm tired of maps constantly trying to up the ante on how many different mechanics you have to juggle.I like kings fall but after that it just got to crazy. Especially since d2 started. I like the OG raids because they were some raid that had a level of difficulty to them but you didn't have to wipe everytime somebody made a minor mistake. dungeons today are more like what I wish raids would be from time to time. Just wish they would mix it up. Have some easy , some hard. I at least wish they had a normal and hard mode like before and the hard mode could change up all the mechanics entirely. That would make more sense. Instead of just making everything more bullet spongey. These new mechanics while maybe not the hardest are very annoying to deal with. Sometimes I just like to be able to play an activity and get through it and get my loot and have a good time. Instead of wiping over and over again, which every raid has had since D2 came out. If you made a mistake on the og raids. You could keep going to see if you could finish the encounter.
The issue is how easy RoN was. Raids on contest mode should never be 3 man flawless or less. Thats against the spirit of a challenge. Also older raids need to be updated because of the power creep we have compared to d1. You are in the minority with this long winded diatribe.
I disagree, tastes with raids have changed over time. Nowadays, people want a mechanic-heavy, difficult raid, rather than something more simple, such as leviathan. Because of this, they relegated the combat-heavy, less mechanic-heavy raids to dungeons, due to them being able to be soloed. Plus the reason they changed up crotas so much is because it was pretty bad in D1, and used strike mechanics in a raid
Why are you not using the Sword combo? It does so much more than any other series of hits that the swords can do, and costs less ammo? light light heavy? Did they remove it or nerf it somehow?
I think the raid is 1790 but contest mode drops your effective power -20 So essentially you’re doing a 1790 activity at 1770 power regardless of your actual power level
You don't have to at all. All it does is damage her for 2.5% of her health. If you pass the damage threshold on the health bar she won't wipe your team.
Your first encounter challenge is wrong. You do not need to Enlighten the same totem you presenty at, you can enlighten any totem after preserving to reset the timer.
We got to IR YUT and struggled. We kept dying alot i never knew where to place chalice when 5 people get the buff and out team was to slow killing Wizards It was also the cheese.
It was an easy two-phase with Cenotaph/Divinity and five thunderlords (with catalyst). She moved around too much for us and people kept dying to rockets going off too close.
Is nobody else allowed to have a day 1 experience and work it out for themselves?? This video and others like it shouldn't be released until contest mode is over, so that the ppl who genuinely do it without cheating have finished! You've just made the emblem utterly worthless ! We completely ignored the expunge mechanic on 3rd. So pretty sure its not tied to a wipe mechanic.
But we also never figured out what its for
just does 2.5% damage
You don't need to expunge the deathsjnger after dps to survive. As long as you get her past the threshold you will survive

For the D1 vets. The chalice is the same mechanic as skolas

Good luck trying to do this with a lfg group lol
Thank you for this. Some feel they have to post a near 40 minute vid.
I’ll never understand people getting upset over a video titled “for dummies” being longer than a “quick guide”
Bruh khepris sting might be the move for ir yut. You might be able to see the entire side of the room
I cannot recommend leviathans breath and div enough for ir yut if you have a luna well there should be no problem 2 phasing
Not looking forward to trying this with pugs.. I've yet to get through Root so this one is gonna be wild 😂
Fun fact, you don’t have to keep passing the chalice, you can chuck it back into the preserve thing where you got it
Thunderlord/div is a fairly reasonable 2 phase and it’s much easier to not miss than rockets

Does killing one wizard starts the dps phase? Then another for 2 phase? Only 3 dps phases are available for 3 wizards??? In ir yut.
Thx!
Only one thing: What about "expunge" on Crota?
Expunge on crota extends damage phase and increases damage output
Yeah apparently this is what people are saying happens. We always used it, but never seemed to have better or worse damage phases while expunging...
@@gmeinersYT from what I understand it's only effective on crota . Could be wrong though
