This was my dad's favourite song. He used to play it on repeat during our long trips and he used to be so nostalgic. Now that I'm older I think I can understand him. He came from Albania to Italy when he was only 18 years old to escape, for a new future? ...I still don't know, but it was hard for him. I can't really imagine what can mean taking a boat full of people and to not eat and drink for days. And he's not the type of person who complains. He also went to the hospital a lot of times because of some serious problems and no one was here with him. In fact, no one really cared.
Now I imagine him all alone, enduring a lot of things and listening to this song. My dad can be really sensitive, so maybe at those times he would even cry.

This song took me to my knees, but showed me the passion still left in life ahead. Today, I still stiffen when I hear it, but am thankful for the beautiful relationships I have in my life now. Very therapeutic to hear again!

It has been many years since his passing, 27 long, agonizing years. He was my soulmate... he was the very breath in my lungs, the warmth in my heart, the joy in my smile, the sparkle in my eyes ... We played this at our dad’s funeral, it was so beautiful and true-we lost our mom 5 years before that and couldn’t believe it. We were too young to have this happen (I had just served in the military-I was able to get back to the east coast on my birthday and one month later my mom was gone). My dad tried so hard to move forward as best he could but in the end, I think he just wanted to see mom again. I thought I’d be brave enough to hear this song now without crying but that’s not the case-apologies for rambling, thank you for this song and though I don’t believe I can ever hear it again without tears, it reminds me my parents are at peace when I’m feeling alone and missing them more than I care to express. I'm here, listening to this song with tears in my eyes. I have been working far away from my family for over two years now, and I had a surgery two weeks. While in the theatre, my body couldn't stand the Ketamine which was supposed to make me sleep and for some reasons, I had an out of body experience in the theatre, saw my levitating in the air outside of my own body. Several hours after I was rolled into a ward, I regained consciousness but felt so all alone.
That night was long for me. I missed my family even more and what kept ringing in my head was 'Home'. I'm listening to this, wondering how I have spent these years staying away from those I love. Thank you, Michael. I find solace in this song as it means a lot to me.

I miss the good old days when my family was still alive…….I miss that time incredibly. There is always a place in my heart for them
not complaining coz others are having it worse, but I used to go to my rural home from the city during the festive holidays knowing I would see my mother, my sister and my lil brother. All are gone. I have my beautiful children, thank God. But man I miss those people during the summer holidays.
