I was an AWANA kid in 1998 here in the Philippines. I remember this song. However, the beat is not like this. Hehe it's somewhat, hymn-like. Hehehe sad to say, I lost both my sparks and flames notebooks. 😔
Hi I love awana and my little sister is in the cubbies and i am in sparks and my big brother and sister are in the TaT and little sister love the cubbies and i love the sparks because both eat a sank and a dank but not big sister and brother they are both big and we are sill smaller
Hi Michael. My name is Minister Yvonne Marshall. I am a Commander of an Awana Club on the East Coast. I was glad to read that you go to Awana and encourage you to continue doing so. It is a fun road to victorious living.
I'm sorry, but not only is this song unBiblical, it's evil. Where in the Bible does it tell us to be "sparks for Jesus?" Do a word search for "spark*" in a KJV Bible. You'll find seven verses that have the word "spark" in it. Six of them demonstrate that "sparks" are associated with wickedness. The seventh, Ezekiel 1:7, will require you to chew into the meat of the Word to glean the full understanding of God's full contextual view of "sparks." Don't take my word for it. Read it for yourselves.
Being a Commander of an Awana Club with a Sparks Program, as well as an ordained Minister of the Gospel, your message that "Sparks for Jesus" is unbiblical as well as evil really bothered me/quenched my spirit.. Since the bible instructs us to rightly divide the Word of truth by being Approved Workmen Who Are Not Ashamed, would you mind indicating the Scriptures that support your comments that the words in the song are unbiblical and evil. I am asking since the ones I found weren't about evil. Nor were the sermons. In fact, the sermons I found were in accordance to the words in the Awana Sparks Theme Song "Sparks for Jesus"., which is about being Disciples of Christ. To quote one of the messages I found (there were many) "What type of light shine within you--Are you a Spark, a Flame or a Fire?" (Scripture References for Sermons: 2 Chron 7:11-22; Neh 1:1-10, Luke 17:5-6; Is 50:11a; Job 41:19)
S Marshall Hi Yvonne, (jmcalaster is my old name, now it's haynesptrn) Thank you for inquiring. I want to preface my reply to you by telling you I say all of this in love, with patience and longsuffering, and with the desire to show you the truth. I am NOT being judgmental, mocking, or sarcastic. Brief statement about my testimony: I believe in the inerrancy of God's word in the KJV Bible only in the English language. I believe EVERY other version of the Bible (in English) was inspired by the spirit of antichrist. Daniel 3:25 (this is one of a plethora of examples!) is perfect for scriptural comparison. Who does it say is the fourth person in the fiery furnace?.. KJV - He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God. NIV - He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.” I believe every word, the number of words, their order and sequence, and every book in the KJV is EXACTLY the way God wanted it written (2 Tim 3:16, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:")
S Marshall (Continued from previous reply...) I believe God shows us how to identify and discriminate between Him and his counterfeit, Satan. He does this through the use of descriptive words that enable us to discern that difference. "Sparks" is used in the KJV Bible seven times in the following six verses: Job 5:7 Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward. Job 18:5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. Job 41:19 Out of his mouth go burning lamps, and sparks of fire leap out. Isaiah 1:31 And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them. Isaiah 50:11 Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow. Ezekiel 1:7 And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf’s foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass. All of these are easy to understand (except Ezekiel 1:7, which requires a little deeper study to demonstrate its absolute relevance to the other scriptures listed.)
S Marshall (Continued further from initial reply...) Not one time does the word "spark" appear associated, or in reference to, Jesus. If Awana intended the use of the "spark" to mean disciple for Jesus, then they should've used "disciple." I understand this is difficult to understand: why would a children's Christian program do this? My wife taught Awana for years before our eyes were opened (praise God!) to see what we were doing. Not only does she not teach Awana anymore, we withdrew our membership from that church (for a variety of reasons- not just Awana.) Please don't take my word for anything. Pray about it- fast if you feel so convicted. Ask God to show you the truth. You will never look at anything in the Bible- or life- the same way again!
