- The Coopers Hawk is very similar to the Sharp-Shinned Hawk, But Coopers hawk has a rounded tail, Sharp-Shinned has a square tail with notch in the middle, exactly what this hawk has.

Notice the dark cap on this hawk - one of the traits of a Cooper's Hawk. Sharpies typically show the same color on the top of the head and the nape. When perched, the shorter outer tail feathers (that give rounded tail appearance) may be tucked in, giving the square-tip appearance. The relative size ratio between the dove and the hawk also supports a Cooper's.
Cap alone gives it away. Cooper
Yup
I agree. One time I was approached by a sharpie, under the canopy in a rain, I was writing him off as a dove until I checked him out. Coopies, on the other hand, are almost as big as smaller buteos.
Cooper's Hawk, indeed.
Goshawk
@@AS-vq3wt goshawks don’t have reddish feathers. It’s a copper hawk.
Wow, that was quick! No wonder hawks are such effective predators!
Was super fast attack! An awesome hunter for sure.
Made me jump! 😅
Adult male Cooper's hawk, probably with young to feed.
Yep!
Yes, too big for SSH.
Definitely a Cooper's.
Looks more like a Cooper's hawk, because it has a cap, we like to say Coop's have caps. For the Cooper, the crown is grey and the nape is reddish, while the Sharpie has dark grey on the crown and nape, but a good indicator are the legs, the Cooper has bigger legs than the Sharpie.
That was a baby mourning dove that didn't have a clue. I don't think an adult would have hesitated like that. It never even saw a hawk in its life, and it learned too late. I can tell it is a very young mourning dove because of the edges of its feathers and I see lots of mourning doves very up close. By now, we all also know that this is an adult Cooper's hawk. Their eye color changes and with what it has now (that dark red), it is as mature and as practiced as they get.
It was a baby ,still hoping it's camouflage will keep it safe ,lacking the strength yet of the adults for powerful takeoffs
This is a coopers hawk, not a sharpie.
This is Definitely a Coopers Hawk. Its way too large and thick to be a Sharp Shinned! Specifically its a Male Coopers.
That dove knew it was screwed the minute it hunkered down to hope it would avoid being seen. You only hide when you can't run.
Cooper's hawk, sometimes jays will bluff them it's a different story if a barn owl is around.
Wow, that's as fast as Bruce Lee's one inch punch.
Bruce Lee was not a Real fighter,he was a small steroid using Actor..His one inch punch lol was nothing more than a push! Go take a shit
Blinked my eyes & missed it
The cruel circle of life.
I witnessed a hawk kill a dove with my own eyes while at work today. It flew off without even taking its just-killed prey with it, much to my confusion.
I get that you still think its a Sharpie, but coming from someone who has flown Coopers in falconry, I'm telling you, there is no way that is a Sharpie. head shape all wrong, size all wrong, leg length all wrong, leg girth all wrong, head coloration is wrong. This is a Coopers, no doubt about it.
thanks for commenting, hawks are very difficult to tell apart sometimes, thanks for the info!
i hate Hawks, but its nature...this creature got to eat. Its not like it has credit cards to go shopping at the Supermarket.
Exactly!
One of this hawk just took our mama bird from its nest! :(
sorry to hear that 🙁
A road runner got a dove in my yard the other day.
wow, didn't know roadrunners would do that
When I moved to Az I looked up what they eat to feed them, and surprise.
Sharp shinned head has tinner legs and more look like sparrow hawk.I believe that bird is cooper's hawk.
There is always a debate on Coopers or Sharp Shinned, I admit it is very hard for me to tell the difference. Thanks for watching and commenting 🙂
@@FelineFe look at their legs miss.
Cooper Hawk
That’s a cooper hawk
Juvenile Mourning dove
It is a male Coopers Hawk.
Dove's big mistake was sitting in the food bin. Could there have been any other conclusion?
@@oh_k8 exactly
@@oh_k8 hawks and owls don't need help from humans to feed they are designed to chase birds through dense forest, very cruel.
@@oh_k8 dove probably had clipped wings. This was a bait bird for making a vidio
@@davieking6856 you're right. Scum move from youtuber
