    • @WinterLynne94
      @WinterLynne94 2 місяці тому +33

      Fun fact!
      France has regulations for naming dogs to help officials keep track of dogs and prevent inbreeding. The rules include the following:
      Year: The name must start with the letter of the alphabet for the year the dog was born, followed by the kennel name. The alphabet skips the letters K, Q, W, X, Y, and Z, and starts over with A every 20 years. For example, in 2020, the letter was R.
      Registration date: Since 1926, the date of registration has also determined the name.
      Purebreds: All purebreds registered in a given year must have names starting with the same letter.
      The rules are intended to identify the year the dog was born, identify the kennel that produced the dog, respect European traditions, and respect the common practice of including the breeder's kennel name in the dog's registered name.
      If we're going under the assumption that the Bluey-verse follows the same customs; The episode aired in 2019. Bluey was six at the time, rewind six years from 2019 and we can guess she was born in 2013. The letter for that year was I with J following in 2014. So, Jean Luc may be a year younger than Bluey.

    What a fun bunch of episodes. Camping is in my favourites. My very rusty high school French was enough to understand Jean-Luc. Hearing him say "No, not tomorrow morning. Goodbye Bluey" looking sad, while she doesn't understand that he won't be around anymore, really got me. And then finishing it off with that fast forward with an off-cam Muffin. And Jean-Luc saying "Hello Bluey" which means he probably knows English now and they can talk. So good! That being said, I'm 100% with Adam, not a fan of camping. Uncomfortable, scary noises, weird smells. Nature is awesome but I like to go back to a hotel in the evening.
    Also Winton is the best. He's so precious!!

    I feel like Calypso missed an opportunity to turn "Mums and Dads" into a teaching moment. Kids tend to assume that every family functions the same as their own until they find out otherwise, and that was a good chance for Indie and Rusty to learn that in some families the mother goes to work, in other families the father goes to work, and in some families both parents work.
    "Camping" is one of my favorite episodes of the entire show. I love how Bluey and Jean-Luc work around the language barrier to become friends without needing words. I also love the flash forward at the end. And the message about people coming in and out of our lives is difficult but powerful.

    • @hihi-heart
      @hihi-heart 2 місяці тому +3

      That was the teaching moment for Mums and Dads, or at least part of it. As the beginning scene goes:
      Rusty: Mums don’t go to work.
      Indy: Yes, they do.
      Rusty: No, they stay at home and look after kids.
      Indy: No, they don’t. Mums go to work, while dads stay home and mow the lawn.
      And as the ending scene goes:
      Rusty: Indy, I think mums can go to work.
      Indy: Yeah, so can dads, if they want.

      @@CalliopePony they do learn this through the game, and also learn that even just because you’re mad at the “partner”, it doesn’t mean that just anybody can replace them either lol. Calypso wanted to give them some space to consider their argument and see other options for their games and decide whether they want to repair things with each other or go a different way. And the kids eventually decided that they still liked and wanted to play this game with each other, because the fight wasn’t that serious and they saw that they were the only two who could play the game well together. I think it’s a sweet episode tbh. I like the way it demonstrates their reconciliation and shows realistic reactions that kids might have in those situations but gives a little more perspective to it that might not happen in real life.
      It’s sort of like Dunny, where you can see the influences of different families and how the kids are absorbing that stuff. And when the adults realize they’re giving the wrong message by enforcing a rule, they change course. But it doesn’t overtly say “hey, arbitrary rules can be confusing for kids”.

    • @CalliopePony
      @CalliopePony 2 місяці тому

      @@Schu0086 Calypso didn't actually teach them anything. She just separated them. It was lucky that they resolved things in the end, but it could just as easily have ended with them still believing that the other was in the wrong.
      Nothing happened to challenge their assumptions on parental roles. They were both frustrated at others not playing how they wanted, but nothing occurred to teach Rusty that mums can go to work or to teach Indie that dads can go to work.
      It would have been much more effective for Calypso to guide their conversation to talk about their own families and maybe tell them stories about other family dynamics. That way they could have broadened their worldviews and learned some conflict resolution beyond just separating until they had time to cool off. (Separating to cool off is good sometimes, but it's not the only option, and in this particular instance talking it out probably would have been better.)

    • @Schu0086
      @Schu0086 2 місяці тому +1

      @@CalliopePony is it the teacher’s role to teach children about parental roles, though? They clearly come from families where the parents inhabit different roles and that’s what they resolve in the end just by cooling down and coming back together. Children don’t need everything spelled out for them, and the teacher’s role in any classroom is largely to enable cooperation between the students. Which sometimes means stopping arguments.

    I think the tent looking more spacious on the inside is a way to show how they're imagination works. They imagine it's bigger so we see it as they imagined. Also, pretty sure Bandit was just acting like a wild pig because he knew Bluey would react and make a game. He's very involved with her pretend play, as you know. Also Also, I love how Jean Luc learned English over the years and is now able to more easily communicate with Bluey.

      @@wondersaiyan I agree, it’s sort of an open secret that the show doesn’t actually pin down the scale even inside the house, which is why you get a sequence where Bandit rolls the green yoga ball down the hallway and the girls pass like ten doors running, their house isn’t actually that large but it feels that way to the kids and their perspective is sometimes distorted because that’s how kids perceive the world. Their imagination can impact the memory quite a bit.

    Bandit (the dad) probably heard the kids playing and pretended to be a pig to make their game more fun.
    My older brother used to do that when he babysat us (the younger kids) like for example jumping on us pretending he is a monster then we try to sneak on him while he’s still pretending to be a monster making a sandwich then suddenly he pretends to get mad and chase us and so on. I remember many times he played like this and we go the whole evening watching him do his chores or watch tv and he’d chase us sometimes so we run away to hide xD.
    I just thought about it now, I think we were probably bored and by him doing that he kept us from doing things we shouldn’t have like flooding the bathtub or going through my mothers belongings. I find this memory very sweet.

    Adam being like "what if you like being attached?" in regards to camping made me feel so seen! Camping is something I tried as a kid and it was just miserable every time - hard pass. But the episode is so special and beautiful! Chattermax immediately gave me Furby vibes (my younger sister had one that she left in her closet untouched for over a decade and when she finally moved it it still had life and it had learned new things. Terrifying.)

    i really like that indie and rusty play together, i feel like when i was a kid a lot of the time boys and girls didnt play with each other saying "ew thats a GIRLS game", "i dont want to play with BOYS" and that sucks. im really happy that bluey shows that there are no 'boy' or 'girl' games and that all genders can play together!

    Hey Adam, as someone who also hates camping, I would definitely suggestion doing it at least once with some friends as an adult if you're willing to drink. One night is enough . People want to go for days at a time, but screw that.
    Bring amenities, battery packs, etc and make sure there's an actual place to poop instead of popping a squat. Stay up all night, sleep for like 3-4 hours, then you can go home, shower and nap.

    Apparently Chattermax is based on the Furby. Though somehow even more annoying.
    As for 'Camping', I don't think Australia has bears or indeed any terrestrial carnivores big enough to endanger a human, but the noise might be enough to scare away snakes or something like an emu that could ruin your day....
    Edit: Oh and be careful next week, Episode 48, 'Teasing', isn't available on all platforms...

    Do you want a list of episodes to look out for because it might get you in the feels? There's a few of them, but there's also ones that will personally hit you. Yoga Ball is one for me, but it's 100% a personal reason.
    Speaking of noisy toys, my parents and my aunt and uncle got into a battle when we were kids. Each would get the others kids a more annoying toy. This continued until one threatened the other with a drum kit. Once, when I was 8, we were helping clean a room in our grandmother's house (it was used as a storage room) and found this weeble toy we loved. It had this bell with a very specific chime and we would spend hours trying to get it to stay down, but it was wobble around making that chime sound. The second it made that chime, my aunt from downstairs screamed "OMG THEY FOUND IT!"
