I'm not sure if anyone else told you, but WayV is an acronym for "We Are your Vision". They were originally supposed to be NCT Vision, but couldn't due to the political tensions. In Turn Back Time, and possibly other songs, they reference the name "Vision" and use the "V" imagery.

Lol… WayV is the sexy subunit - sensual songs is their specialty. 127 is also sexy but they are more neo in a sense that their songs are louder. Dream is the subunit that specializes in rainbows, candies, and walks in the meadows 🤣🤣
My theory on Regular by WayV: At the time of their debut, they couldn't outright claim to be an NCT subunit (even though they were) due to tensions with China and Korea, so they used the NCT song to subtly make that tie in. Since that time, they have been able to fully claim their status as an NCT subunit.
I’m pretty sure it’s not even a theory but a fact honestly My god, I do not miss the drama of people saying WayV wasn’t part of NCT even tho it was so obvious they were. (Another obvious, but subtle sign was how SM used the NCT leitmotif of a water drop sound in both the interludes for 127’s Neo Zone and WayV’s Awaken the World albums) And all the complaints that occurred when SM could finally outright say WayV was part of NCT when NCT 2020 happened ^^;
it's either that or Regular was meant for WayV in the first place. Because if you look at the song titles, 127's Regular says "English Version" and "Korean Version" whereas WayV's Regular doesn't say "Chinese Version" it's just titled Regular.

Omg yay! WayV are by far my favourite subunit and probably my ULT group over all so I’m glad you are checking them out again 🥰 For Phantom they’ve had this sitting in the drafts literally for years. After everything with Lucas kicked off all their stuff got put on hold 😢 Lucas and Hendery were due to release a song together literally 12 hours before the rumours started spreading, so everyone was scared that something would happen in the lead up to this comeback. Idk what’s going on with Lucas but I’m glad that the rest of the members are finally able to continue promoting because this whole thing hasn’t been fair in any of them 😕
One of the big draws for me with all the NCT units is the sublime harmonies. They all have their moments to shine individually within the unit but the harmonies are still prevalent. Not many other kpop groups do harmonies like this. It's something that I'd love to hear more of tbh.
Omg WayV is my Ult group, and If your looking for softness from them they do have songs that have more softness most of them don't have a music video except "Let me Love you" which the members filmed themselves it's super fun playful and cute. Also fan made highlighted lyrics video for "Only human" and "It's all for Love" "Electric Hearts" "King of Hearts" Also Xiaojun and Kun have a song together that is soft vocals called "Back to You" and "Sleepless". Also I highly suggest their Rainbow V videos they broke up into sub units to work on projects together and Winwin and Ten's dance cover is incredible but they all are tbh.
Technically WayV debuted in January 2019 with the Mandarin version of "Regular," which was also NCT-127's song. However, "Take Off," which came out in April 2019, is considered their official debut song because it was their first release that was all theirs. Although WayV's "Regular" uses the same title and beat -- and even a few of the same words and lines -- as NCT-127's Korean and English versions of the song, they aren't really the same song. WayV's version sounds different, not only because it's different members and a different language, but it has a different message as well. If you look up the English translation of the Korean and Mandarin versions of "Regular" and compare them to the English version, you will see that all 3 songs are talking about different things. That is what makes this song special. "Regular" is on NCT-127's Regular/Irregular album, so the Korean and English versions are supposed to be like night and day. The English version is about not being satisfied until they possess all the riches and fame, which is what appeals to an American/Western audience. Where the Korean version is about working hard to become your best self and not being happy until you have done all you can to gain the respect and love of your fans, which is what appeals more to a Korean audience. The Chinese version of the song also has different lyrics. The MV for WayV's version of "Regular" is about dominating in the technology realm and that is why you see them as stock traders in the stock market and at one point they are literally inside a computer, etc. It's all about dominating in the business world. "Regular" was technically WayV's debut song as well. You should really take the time to see what makes the 3 versions so different. :D It's really interesting to see how 3 songs can be created in 3 different languages using the same beat and feel, and yet have completely different messages. It just goes to show how diverse the music industry is and yet still so similar. :D Another reason why WayV's MV is so different from the Korean and English version is because they are the Chinese sub-unit and at that time they couldn't have anything that might connect them to NCT or make it look like they were working with a Korean company if they wanted to promote in China. Because of the political issues between Korea and China, they had to appear as if they were a Chinese group and were separate from anything to do with SM in order for the Chinese government to allow them to appear on Chinese programs, etc. and to promote themselves and their album in the country.

About your analysis on Phantom lyrics: It's very important to point out that this is a song they received even before the scandal, in this album photoshoot they had pics that we're taken around the start of 2021 - same time kick back came out in march - because it was supposed to be a follow-up comeback, back then the members talked about how they were preparing and that it was originally a full album (now it came out as a mini), but then all the thing with Lucas happened in august and it was pushed back. The members started working on the album again around september this year, they already had most of the songs ready probably only had to re-record or make some changes as Lucas originally was planned to be part of them too and the first comeback they date they had was on December 8th but due to some situations in China they had to once again delay the album, that as you already know came out just now. YangYang send a very emotional message on his bubble yesterday how during the time they're preparing for the comeback and it kept being delayed for diverse reasons they started thinking the song might be "cursed" (his own words). These 6 went through a lot with that entire situation and SM didn't help them get out of it at all. In the mini album there's other lyrics like Good Life (talks about wanting to know what's like to have no problems in life, it hits very hard knowing all that), Broken Love (about delusion, a love song but can also be taken otherwise), Bounce Back (talks about moving on after a 'broken love' and bouncing back to a new beginning) and finally Try My Luck (that goes as the title say, no matter how many times they try to pull them down they will keep trying). so as much as the lyrics seen to be related to the events it's very trick cause not only they already had all of the songs prepared before but also because it can go on both sides as the fans who want to believe he's coming back are interpretating this as a warning to these who started these rumours while the fans who want him gone believe they're letting go of these dark times and beginning again as six.
Yaaas WayV is my fav subunit! So glad to see you getting into them further Yetti. They do have ONE cute feel good song lol literally had me writing fanfics in my head, its called "Let Me Love You" and it was self-filmed by the boys. It makes my heart explode every time I hear/see it.
I finally have time for more than a hit and run comment. WayV are the posh rich NCT unit onstage who are totally chaotic brothers in arms offstage. I feel like their videos keep to the "dream within a dream" concept of NCT most consistently. Anytime they do a ballad it's exquisite, and their uptempo songs are always kind of luxurious. And of course, there is Love Talk which is nuts on very many levels.
Fun fact: Because WayV -- which stands for We Are Your Vision in English -- or Weishen V in Chinese -- which means "gods of vision" -- is a sub-unit of NCT, NCT's whole dream concept is also part of WayV's storyline and concept. (Hence, why they say "the face of Vision" in the lyrics of "Turn Back Time" and in the lyrics of "Phantom" they say "only I can see the truth," and they talk about having the vision, etc.) As with everything NCT does, it all has to do with some aspect of dreams or dreaming or being in a dream state, etc. Some fans who are into SM group theories have also speculated that NCT's storyline also connects to EXO's and SuperM's storyline. You just have to come to accept that everything you see from SM will be connected to SM's Culture Universe, and it's all part of a giant drama or movie -- it's just another chapter in the story. Since the creation of SuperM, where they are now taking members from each of SM's most popular groups and creating an Avengers supergroup, I think that was SM's first indication that from now on we need to pay attention, because all of its groups' MVs are somehow connected. If the SuperM Avengers are coming together to help EXO stop the Red Force, I think the members who are part of SuperM are the liaisons who are helping to connect all the groups -- EXO, Taemin/SHINee, NCT and WayV -- together. For example, right after SuperM released their debut "Jopping" MV, WayV came out with "Moonwalk" and I think "Moonwalk" is pretty much a continuation of "Jopping's" storyline, and now I think their other MVs, such as "Turn Back Time" and maybe even "Phantom" are also part of that story. With NCT's dream concept, they could very easily connect to EXO's other world and other dimension theories. For example, I see parts of the story in "Turn Back Time" that could be connected to SuperM's MV for "One (Monster & Infinity)." When Lucas is suspended in the air in the MV for "One (Monster & Infinity)," I see similarities to the fact that he is supposed to be a fallen angel in "Turn Back TIme" who is also floating in the air. Lucas doesn't have a shirt on because he has just had his wings ripped off or removed, so he is shirtless because he is recovering from whatever happened to him. You see the scars on Lucas' back because his wings have been torn off. I also wonder if WayV actually has the power to turn back time, similar to Tao's superpower in EXO -- will it be their job to help fix the problems in EXO's and SuperM's storyline by turning back time? ("5, 4, 3, 2,1" -- they are counting down and turning back time. The end move in the choreography was designed to show time had abruptly been stopped and the momentum of their movements caused their body to tremble like that, etc.) And, if you notice, Ten and Lucas have a pivotal role in the storyline in "Turn Back Time." I think this might be because they are members of SuperM and they are coming to gather the other WayV members to bring them into the fight. Maybe in "Turn Back Time" the WayV members are cut up and injured because they have been involved in the battle as they help SuperM take down the Red Force. In the end of "Turn Back Time" you see a post-apocalyptic world with a mashup of buildings that form the shape of a V, which I think is connected to the fact that in WayV's "Moonwalk" MV we see a meteor shower taking place. And I also think that meteor shower is connected to the fact that we see the planet on fire in the end of EXO's "Obsession" MV and everything on fire in Lay's solo "Sheep" Alan Walker relift version MV, etc. I think at the end of their "Turn Back Time" MV, they might be showing what their world looks like after the destruction of the planet has taken place. In their "Phantom" MV we see the red moon or planet with YangYang holding up the moon, which I think is also probably connected in some way to the fact that in WayV's "Moonwalk" lyrics they talk about taking over the moon. And it's also probably connected to WayV's other MVs, as well as EXO's and SuperM's storyline, because everything EXO does is also connected to the moon, other worlds and other dimensions, etc. It's all part of the SM Culture Universe And, although WayV's "Phantom" MV is loosely based on the concept of the Phantom of the Opera, a phantom is just another name for a ghost or apparition, so I really think the song is about a phantom in general, not specifically the phantom that haunts the opera house. I think the song is more about the image of someone or something that haunts your thoughts or memories, etc. that seems to be affecting or controlling all aspects of your life, manipulating you like a puppet on a string. WayV, by far, is considered the most sexy of all of NCT's sub-units so far. Ten and Lucas are also members of NCT-U and SuperM; Winwin is also a member of NCT-U and NCT-127; Kun -- the leader of WayV -- originally debuted as part of NCT-2018; and Yanyang, Xiaojun and Hendery debuted specifically as members of WayV at the beginning of 2019 when WayV was formed. > Kun -- the one with the blueish plaid suit and blue and orange hair in "Action Figure," and the red hair in "Phantom" -- is the oldest who is almost 27. He is a lead vocalist. > Ten -- the guy with the red plaid suit in "Action Figure" and the one with the mullet hairstyle in "Phantom" -- is 26 and he is Thai, but his grandparents are Chinese and he attended an international school in Thailand where they spoke English most of the time, so he is fluent in English. (He is the NCT member who is fluent in the most languages -- on top of being fluent in Thai, English, Korean and Mandarin, he is also learning Japanese); he is a main dancer, lead vocalist and a center of WayV. He is Taiwanese, but he lived in Germany for a while and attended an international school, so he is also fluent in English and proficient in German; he is the main rapper. The only reason why WayV doesn't have NCT in their name like the other 3 NCT sub-units is because, at the time of their debut, there was a lot of political issues between Korea and China, and because of that Korean companies were not able to work in China. NCT's Chinese sub-unit has been going to debut for years, but with all the political issues it took SM Entertainment a long time to find a way to work around all the rules the Chinese government put in place to prevent its native Chinese citizens from working with anyone associated with Korea and preventing anyone who was working with a Korean company from working in China. So in order to circumvent some of China's restrictions, SM found/created a Chinese company that was willing to take on NCT's Chinese sub-unit, but also allow SM to have a say in the group's concept and promotion activities. Part of how they get around the rules is they gave the group a name that distances them from their Korean roots. (That is also why WayV's Chinese fans are called WayZenNi instead of NCTzens and why WayV has their own lightstick design that is different than NCT's, etc.) The company WayV is under is called Label V which is part of SM, but separate from the Korean branch of the company and it produces songs in Mandarin to keep the Chinese government happy. All the members of WayV also speak Mandarin and have some connection to Chinese heritage, but most of the members are not native mainland Chinese citizens, so this gives them some immunity from the Chinese government. But they are representing China and they are promoting Chinese culture, so the Chinese government kind of turned a blind eye to the fact that they are technically still under a Korean company, as long as they hid any connection to their Korean company while doing promotions in China. As you can see, not only do the WayV members speak, Mandarin, Korean and English, but they are a very international group that speaks many languages. So, pretty much all of WayV's songs are in Mandarin with a few English lyrics and words mixed in. (Except when it's an English version, such as "Bad Alive" or their all English version of "Love Talk," or their English song "Miracle", or if you happen to pick the Korean version of some of their songs.) LOL Because WayV is the Chinese unit, but they are releasing music in Korea and promoting in Korea, not specifically in China, SM is more likely to produce their songs in English. Hence, why several of WayV's previous songs are English songs, because -- due to the pandemic, political issues, Lucas being on hiatus, etc. -- they aren't promoting as a group in China right now. I think it helps SM avoid any crossover issues with Korea that might make it more difficult for them to promote in China in the future. Now you need to check out the dance practice videos for "Regular" and "Turn Back Time" and one of WayV's live performances of "Phantom" because the song and choreography is even better when you see and hear it live. (If you watch their MCountdown "Phantom" comeback stage, you will even get to hear the English version of the song.) SM Entertainment is known as the vocal powerhouse of the Kpop industry, which also happens to have some of the best dancers. And the company is known for the fact that when their artists perform live, they are even better than any of their studio recordings. So everyone always looks forward to their live performances. I think you will be even more impressed when you see it live.
yesssss i agree!!! the lyrics are imo referencing the haters, the lies, the gossiping, how they go after them to being them down... Also the visuals, the randomly flying daggers attacking them all around, the two different scenarios, one polished, another in chaos, their masked personas and unmasked ones... The idol life overall, cause most suffer all these social media individuals attacks... They can also be those phantoms hiding in the dark, the anonimity of social media. They lie, accuse etc under fake personas, and others would act as spreaders and amplifiers of those lies...

phantom is based on the opera classic phantom of the opera and was made like two years ago, so it's not really about any scandal. i think it would be much more meaningfulto see it as a separate work of art and notice how they interpreted the original reference, cause it's very creative. however, it is of course needed to keep in mind how much these 6 had to go through, especially because they themselves have talked about hard their unprompted hiatus was.
With the SuperM 2023 ad at the SMTOWN New Year's concert there were SEVEN lights and Baekhyun is coming back in February from the military so we're hoping Lucas is back then and then WayV can be 7 again as well (the members always still keep their numbers with him included and have him in their photos on their phones etc. - so let's hope!) ^^

As for your interpretation for phantom.. i think it’s not too far off? Some of the members said that it’s a song about overcoming hard times and seeing about the things that happened to them it seems fitting on the theme too 🥲 i feel like they’re kinda between a rock and a hard place right now about their comeback because clearly they cameback as 6 people will talk and if they comeback with 7 people will talk too so it’s quite a tough situation right now. But am honestly really happy that they made a comeback after almost two years finally and seeing the live stages of phantom also brings me satisfaction because they seem to EMBODY the stage like.. they’ve been waiting for this and it shows in how the perform because they KILLED IT!! Their title tracks overall have that epic quality, the strings and the electrix guitars are common elements in them, you will realise if you react a bit more to them. They also have cool r&b hiphoppy songs and then beautiful slow/ballad ones
About the Phantom lyrics, apparently the boys received the demo of the song months before Lucas situation and the original plan was this comeback song to be 7 of them so I don’t really think they’re talking about Lucas. The producer himself talked about it on how long this song has been finished and so ready to be release.but yes if you analyze the lyrics they can also use that :) Hope everything will be okay soon

I was late to the WayV party, i knew they were a subunit, but didn't set out to fully discover them until this year, but they stole my heart and are my favorite subunit. I was a little shocked at first 🤣, nobody warned me!! But I love their more mature, sexy, groovy vibe. They are so talented in their own ways. I miss Lucas, but they shouldn't have to wait for him. It's not fair them or their careers.
I had heard a rumor that originally "Regular" was going to just be a WayV song. But for some reason it was then decided to also make "Regular" in Korean and English and came out by NCT first. Has anyone else heard this rumor? Before Lucas left, Lucas was responsible for rapping/singing in a lower register. For "Phantom" the members (especially Yang Yang, Hendery and Win Win) stated that they focused on their lower registers. I think that they are trying to fill the vocal register previously filled by Lucas seems to add further support that Lucas is not coming back, and the group is adjusting for his permanent absence. ; (
Regular was supposedly meant to be wayv’s debut song but their unit debut was delayed and at the same time 127 was set to tour in America and they probably ended up giving 127 the kr eng versions so they could promote it during their US trip and since regular is a type of song that would garner high appeal in the western world. I personally like wayv’s MV concept for regular waaaay more than the 127 mv’s tbh 😭
I think it’s just that-rumour. I think Regular was always meant to promote in the western market with the Latin and trap influences. I’m almost certain WayV performed Regular to say “yes, we are NCT” at a time when they couldn’t say it directly.
Lucas didn't leave, he's still part of WayV, just absent from this comeback (so far). let's see about the future, but in order to "full the vocal register" of Lucas they'd need to add someone new. as much as they're great none of them have the deep, full and raspy tone Lucas has.

Let me love you, Dream lunch are kinda cute songs. If you're looking for vocals, calm vibes you better start with Phantom side tracks. This album is the masterpiece I promise you. And then listen to side tracks of other albums if you like. MV or track videos mostly aims to showcase and attack ppl so... 🤭
Late to comment on this, but if you're looking for a sweeter and softer concept from WayV, then I recommend checking out Let me love u and Dream Launch. You could also watch Good Life and Stand By Me, though the videos for these aren't the full song. If you want something more vocal centric, there is a live performance of Face to Face, which is just Kun, Ten and Xiaojun. They've also released a performance for Broken Love from their newest album. WayV's Regular was supposed to come out before 127, but their debut was delayed due to the Chinese government throwing a bunch of hurdles at SM. Regular has three versions though, each telling a different story... Korean version is the Reality, working hard to achieve ones dreams and goals. English version is the Dream, what they imagine obtaining all the success and fame they've dreamt about would be like, which is why it sounds so bragadocious. Whereas WayV's version is much more philosophical about all of it. With having to drop the NCT moniker and everything else SM had to do in order to create the appearance of separation just so they could promote in China, I really think the intention of having them start with a song that'd be shared between units, was SM's way of declaring them still every bit a part of NCT. Had they been able to, they would have been called NCT Vision... as it stands though, WayV is an acronym for We Are Your Vision.

I saw comments said tho the song may be produced before the scandal, they can easy rewrite the song and they might, since if they have to re-record this since LC is still on hiatus. Yup I definitely got what you meant when the lyrics referencing THE SITUATION. Overall WayV vibes...you need to listen their progression from their albums. Where are you getting this info that Regular was originally for WayV? Yes, they owned this version, but I’m pretty sure they did it to say “yes, we are NCT” when they couldn’t say it outright.

for me wayV concept within NCT's is abt time control and time travel in order to set things right again!!! u can see in their song moon walk the earth is up to destructions and the last this in the MV is wayv stopping the clock to prevent the destruction of earth (and in my opinion it has a connection to EXO's obsession where we see the earth on fire??) the there is turn back time where they go back to the past to prevent it and they r held captive while trying to do their mission, and at the end the WayV building in the neo city that is in chaos (i relate it too to EXO with the pills and experiment like facility) the kick back came after kick it of 127 so .... is it that they r resetting time and like events repeat but differently since they tried to change it ? and now i believe that Phantom is about figuring out that there are ppl pulling out the strains and that some of em are controlled ?? not sure this is my conclusion abt it hhhh WayV is my fav unit and i feel like they had the most consistent story line out of the 3 units i might be over thinking it but their MVs !!
WayV is my favorite NCT unit and it was Lucas and them that made me join the fandom in 2020, I love Lucas and I miss him, WayV has a lot of potential and SM does not value

17:57 if you are looking for a "cuter" song from them I highly recommend Dream Launch!!!! it is one of their older releases (I believe it was a pre=release to their first comeback/proper debut titled Takeoff) but it definitely shows off a different, softer side of these boys, and personally it was the song that made me stan so maybe I'm a little biased..... it is usually overlooked in a lot of reaction videos but I promise that it is worth it! and the storyline of the mv is awesome
Phantom does have a definite Phantom of the Opera theme but many of us do see some references to THE situation. Even within the fandom there are widely varying opinions about Lucas. Personally, I would like to see Lucas back but regardless I think SM is negligent in not giving a clear picture of what is happening with him in relationship to WayV. Because SM hasn't many won't support WayV which is a shame because this is a very talented group.

I miss Lucas so much. Phantom is incredible! WayV never misses. But Lucas should be here :( It's not right how SM is handling this. Just tell us if he's staying or going so we can come to terms with it and move on with our lives. It's that simple. WayV is my favorite NCT unit. And Phantom is probably the best album NCT as a whole has put out all year in my opinion. But all the unknown with them right now is making it hard for me personally to truly appreciate it :( Also any performance videos usually don't have english subs but the MV's at least now all have subs. To be honest a lot of ppl actually like the Chinese ver of a lot of songs that were to be sung by nct 127 like regular and comeback also I’ve seen a lot of comment saying that phantom was meant for Lucas more specifically the lower parts which isn’t true there was nothing that suggested that and if all of does parts were Lucas’s part then they would barely be lines left for hendrey, yangyan and winwin every one telling u that is not official but a speculation made by fans of wayv there nothing wayv or sm has said makes it official and I think yangyan, hendrey and winwin did really good with those lines it doesn’t matter if it was for Lucas or not 11:26 that’s kun the leader as for the 3 rappers thing there’s actually 4 rappers yangyang soletimes songs and raps the 3 singers are kun, xiaojun and ten 27:45 that’s yangyang

it actually amazes me how you figure out exactly what they're conveying on the first watch cos winwin jumping off in 127's regular was definitely to signify him moving to wayv. Also if you remember in the 127 mv jungwoo unclipped a parachute and walked into the city, signifying his entry to 127

I'm not sure if anyone else told you, but WayV is an acronym for "We Are your Vision". They were originally supposed to be NCT Vision, but couldn't due to the political tensions.
In Turn Back Time, and possibly other songs, they reference the name "Vision" and use the "V" imagery.

Lol… WayV is the sexy subunit - sensual songs is their specialty. 127 is also sexy but they are more neo in a sense that their songs are louder. Dream is the subunit that specializes in rainbows, candies, and walks in the meadows 🤣🤣
My theory on Regular by WayV:
At the time of their debut, they couldn't outright claim to be an NCT subunit (even though they were) due to tensions with China and Korea, so they used the NCT song to subtly make that tie in.
Since that time, they have been able to fully claim their status as an NCT subunit.

My god, I do not miss the drama of people saying WayV wasn’t part of NCT even tho it was so obvious they were. (Another obvious, but subtle sign was how SM used the NCT leitmotif of a water drop sound in both the interludes for 127’s Neo Zone and WayV’s Awaken the World albums) And all the complaints that occurred when SM could finally outright say WayV was part of NCT when NCT 2020 happened ^^;
it's either that or Regular was meant for WayV in the first place. Because if you look at the song titles, 127's Regular says "English Version" and "Korean Version" whereas WayV's Regular doesn't say "Chinese Version" it's just titled Regular.

For Phantom they’ve had this sitting in the drafts literally for years. After everything with Lucas kicked off all their stuff got put on hold 😢 Lucas and Hendery were due to release a song together literally 12 hours before the rumours started spreading, so everyone was scared that something would happen in the lead up to this comeback.
Idk what’s going on with Lucas but I’m glad that the rest of the members are finally able to continue promoting because this whole thing hasn’t been fair in any of them 😕
One of the big draws for me with all the NCT units is the sublime harmonies. They all have their moments to shine individually within the unit but the harmonies are still prevalent. Not many other kpop groups do harmonies like this. It's something that I'd love to hear more of tbh.

Omg WayV is my Ult group, and If your looking for softness from them they do have songs that have more softness most of them don't have a music video except "Let me Love you" which the members filmed themselves it's super fun playful and cute. Also fan made highlighted lyrics video for "Only human" and "It's all for Love" "Electric Hearts" "King of Hearts" Also Xiaojun and Kun have a song together that is soft vocals called "Back to You" and "Sleepless". Also I highly suggest their Rainbow V videos they broke up into sub units to work on projects together and Winwin and Ten's dance cover is incredible but they all are tbh.
Technically WayV debuted in January 2019 with the Mandarin version of "Regular," which was also NCT-127's song. However, "Take Off," which came out in April 2019, is considered their official debut song because it was their first release that was all theirs.
Although WayV's "Regular" uses the same title and beat -- and even a few of the same words and lines -- as NCT-127's Korean and English versions of the song, they aren't really the same song. WayV's version sounds different, not only because it's different members and a different language, but it has a different message as well.
If you look up the English translation of the Korean and Mandarin versions of "Regular" and compare them to the English version, you will see that all 3 songs are talking about different things. That is what makes this song special. "Regular" is on NCT-127's Regular/Irregular album, so the Korean and English versions are supposed to be like night and day.
The English version is about not being satisfied until they possess all the riches and fame, which is what appeals to an American/Western audience. Where the Korean version is about working hard to become your best self and not being happy until you have done all you can to gain the respect and love of your fans, which is what appeals more to a Korean audience.
The Chinese version of the song also has different lyrics. The MV for WayV's version of "Regular" is about dominating in the technology realm and that is why you see them as stock traders in the stock market and at one point they are literally inside a computer, etc. It's all about dominating in the business world. "Regular" was technically WayV's debut song as well.
You should really take the time to see what makes the 3 versions so different. :D It's really interesting to see how 3 songs can be created in 3 different languages using the same beat and feel, and yet have completely different messages. It just goes to show how diverse the music industry is and yet still so similar. :D
Another reason why WayV's MV is so different from the Korean and English version is because they are the Chinese sub-unit and at that time they couldn't have anything that might connect them to NCT or make it look like they were working with a Korean company if they wanted to promote in China. Because of the political issues between Korea and China, they had to appear as if they were a Chinese group and were separate from anything to do with SM in order for the Chinese government to allow them to appear on Chinese programs, etc. and to promote themselves and their album in the country.

About your analysis on Phantom lyrics:
It's very important to point out that this is a song they received even before the scandal, in this album photoshoot they had pics that we're taken around the start of 2021 - same time kick back came out in march - because it was supposed to be a follow-up comeback, back then the members talked about how they were preparing and that it was originally a full album (now it came out as a mini), but then all the thing with Lucas happened in august and it was pushed back. The members started working on the album again around september this year, they already had most of the songs ready probably only had to re-record or make some changes as Lucas originally was planned to be part of them too and the first comeback they date they had was on December 8th but due to some situations in China they had to once again delay the album, that as you already know came out just now. YangYang send a very emotional message on his bubble yesterday how during the time they're preparing for the comeback and it kept being delayed for diverse reasons they started thinking the song might be "cursed" (his own words). These 6 went through a lot with that entire situation and SM didn't help them get out of it at all. In the mini album there's other lyrics like Good Life (talks about wanting to know what's like to have no problems in life, it hits very hard knowing all that), Broken Love (about delusion, a love song but can also be taken otherwise), Bounce Back (talks about moving on after a 'broken love' and bouncing back to a new beginning) and finally Try My Luck (that goes as the title say, no matter how many times they try to pull them down they will keep trying). so as much as the lyrics seen to be related to the events it's very trick cause not only they already had all of the songs prepared before but also because it can go on both sides as the fans who want to believe he's coming back are interpretating this as a warning to these who started these rumours while the fans who want him gone believe they're letting go of these dark times and beginning again as six.
Yaaas WayV is my fav subunit! So glad to see you getting into them further Yetti. They do have ONE cute feel good song lol literally had me writing fanfics in my head, its called "Let Me Love You" and it was self-filmed by the boys. It makes my heart explode every time I hear/see it.
I finally have time for more than a hit and run comment. WayV are the posh rich NCT unit onstage who are totally chaotic brothers in arms offstage. I feel like their videos keep to the "dream within a dream" concept of NCT most consistently. Anytime they do a ballad it's exquisite, and their uptempo songs are always kind of luxurious. And of course, there is Love Talk which is nuts on very many levels.
Fun fact: Because WayV -- which stands for We Are Your Vision in English -- or Weishen V in Chinese -- which means "gods of vision" -- is a sub-unit of NCT, NCT's whole dream concept is also part of WayV's storyline and concept. (Hence, why they say "the face of Vision" in the lyrics of "Turn Back Time" and in the lyrics of "Phantom" they say "only I can see the truth," and they talk about having the vision, etc.) As with everything NCT does, it all has to do with some aspect of dreams or dreaming or being in a dream state, etc.
Some fans who are into SM group theories have also speculated that NCT's storyline also connects to EXO's and SuperM's storyline. You just have to come to accept that everything you see from SM will be connected to SM's Culture Universe, and it's all part of a giant drama or movie -- it's just another chapter in the story.
Since the creation of SuperM, where they are now taking members from each of SM's most popular groups and creating an Avengers supergroup, I think that was SM's first indication that from now on we need to pay attention, because all of its groups' MVs are somehow connected.
If the SuperM Avengers are coming together to help EXO stop the Red Force, I think the members who are part of SuperM are the liaisons who are helping to connect all the groups -- EXO, Taemin/SHINee, NCT and WayV -- together. For example, right after SuperM released their debut "Jopping" MV, WayV came out with "Moonwalk" and I think "Moonwalk" is pretty much a continuation of "Jopping's" storyline, and now I think their other MVs, such as "Turn Back Time" and maybe even "Phantom" are also part of that story. With NCT's dream concept, they could very easily connect to EXO's other world and other dimension theories.
For example, I see parts of the story in "Turn Back Time" that could be connected to SuperM's MV for "One (Monster & Infinity)." When Lucas is suspended in the air in the MV for "One (Monster & Infinity)," I see similarities to the fact that he is supposed to be a fallen angel in "Turn Back TIme" who is also floating in the air. Lucas doesn't have a shirt on because he has just had his wings ripped off or removed, so he is shirtless because he is recovering from whatever happened to him. You see the scars on Lucas' back because his wings have been torn off.
I also wonder if WayV actually has the power to turn back time, similar to Tao's superpower in EXO -- will it be their job to help fix the problems in EXO's and SuperM's storyline by turning back time? ("5, 4, 3, 2,1" -- they are counting down and turning back time. The end move in the choreography was designed to show time had abruptly been stopped and the momentum of their movements caused their body to tremble like that, etc.)
And, if you notice, Ten and Lucas have a pivotal role in the storyline in "Turn Back Time." I think this might be because they are members of SuperM and they are coming to gather the other WayV members to bring them into the fight. Maybe in "Turn Back Time" the WayV members are cut up and injured because they have been involved in the battle as they help SuperM take down the Red Force.
In the end of "Turn Back Time" you see a post-apocalyptic world with a mashup of buildings that form the shape of a V, which I think is connected to the fact that in WayV's "Moonwalk" MV we see a meteor shower taking place. And I also think that meteor shower is connected to the fact that we see the planet on fire in the end of EXO's "Obsession" MV and everything on fire in Lay's solo "Sheep" Alan Walker relift version MV, etc. I think at the end of their "Turn Back Time" MV, they might be showing what their world looks like after the destruction of the planet has taken place.
In their "Phantom" MV we see the red moon or planet with YangYang holding up the moon, which I think is also probably connected in some way to the fact that in WayV's "Moonwalk" lyrics they talk about taking over the moon. And it's also probably connected to WayV's other MVs, as well as EXO's and SuperM's storyline, because everything EXO does is also connected to the moon, other worlds and other dimensions, etc. It's all part of the SM Culture Universe
And, although WayV's "Phantom" MV is loosely based on the concept of the Phantom of the Opera, a phantom is just another name for a ghost or apparition, so I really think the song is about a phantom in general, not specifically the phantom that haunts the opera house. I think the song is more about the image of someone or something that haunts your thoughts or memories, etc. that seems to be affecting or controlling all aspects of your life, manipulating you like a puppet on a string.

WayV, by far, is considered the most sexy of all of NCT's sub-units so far. They are known for not being afraid to show skin and to have songs that are all about being sexy or have lyrics that play with sexual innuendo, etc.
Currently, there are 7 members in WayV. Ten and Lucas are also members of NCT-U and SuperM; Winwin is also a member of NCT-U and NCT-127; Kun -- the leader of WayV -- originally debuted as part of NCT-2018; and Yanyang, Xiaojun and Hendery debuted specifically as members of WayV at the beginning of 2019 when WayV was formed.
> Kun -- the one with the blueish plaid suit and blue and orange hair in "Action Figure," and the red hair in "Phantom" -- is the oldest who is almost 27. He is a lead vocalist.
> Ten -- the guy with the red plaid suit in "Action Figure" and the one with the mullet hairstyle in "Phantom" -- is 26 and he is Thai, but his grandparents are Chinese and he attended an international school in Thailand where they spoke English most of the time, so he is fluent in English. (He is the NCT member who is fluent in the most languages -- on top of being fluent in Thai, English, Korean and Mandarin, he is also learning Japanese); he is a main dancer, lead vocalist and a center of WayV. He is also the NCT member with the most solo songs.
> WinWin -- the one with the "angelic face" with the chains in "Turn Back Time" and the deep voice that throws the knife at the heart in "Phantom" -- is 25 years old and he is a lead vocalist, lead dancer and sub-rapper. (He is trained in traditional Chinese dance and attended one of the most prestigious dance academies in China. He was also admitted to a very important dance program at University -- similar to the Chinese equivalent of Julliard.)
> Lucas -- the tallest one -- is Chinese-Thai from Hong Kong, so his native language is Cantonese; he is a lead rapper, vocalist and the visual of WayV. (However, as you may know, due to a dating scandal and other controversies, Lucas has been on hiatus for more than a year now, which is why he wasn't in their "Phantom" MV.)
> Xiaojun -- the guy with the gray hair in "Phantom" -- is 23 and he is the main vocalist and the one with the high notes most of the time.
> Hendery -- the one with the crazy eyes in "Phantom" -- is 23 and he is from Macau China, so he also speaks Cantonese; he is a lead vocalist and lead rapper.
> Yangyang -- the guy with the half suit jacket in "Action Figure" and the blond in "Phantom" -- is the youngest at 22 years old. He is Taiwanese, but he lived in Germany for a while and attended an international school, so he is also fluent in English and proficient in German; he is the main rapper.
The only reason why WayV doesn't have NCT in their name like the other 3 NCT sub-units is because, at the time of their debut, there was a lot of political issues between Korea and China, and because of that Korean companies were not able to work in China. NCT's Chinese sub-unit has been going to debut for years, but with all the political issues it took SM Entertainment a long time to find a way to work around all the rules the Chinese government put in place to prevent its native Chinese citizens from working with anyone associated with Korea and preventing anyone who was working with a Korean company from working in China.
So in order to circumvent some of China's restrictions, SM found/created a Chinese company that was willing to take on NCT's Chinese sub-unit, but also allow SM to have a say in the group's concept and promotion activities. Part of how they get around the rules is they gave the group a name that distances them from their Korean roots. (That is also why WayV's Chinese fans are called WayZenNi instead of NCTzens and why WayV has their own lightstick design that is different than NCT's, etc.) The company WayV is under is called Label V which is part of SM, but separate from the Korean branch of the company and it produces songs in Mandarin to keep the Chinese government happy. All the members of WayV also speak Mandarin and have some connection to Chinese heritage, but most of the members are not native mainland Chinese citizens, so this gives them some immunity from the Chinese government. But they are representing China and they are promoting Chinese culture, so the Chinese government kind of turned a blind eye to the fact that they are technically still under a Korean company, as long as they hid any connection to their Korean company while doing promotions in China.
As you can see, not only do the WayV members speak, Mandarin, Korean and English, but they are a very international group that speaks many languages.
So, pretty much all of WayV's songs are in Mandarin with a few English lyrics and words mixed in. (Except when it's an English version, such as "Bad Alive" or their all English version of "Love Talk," or their English song "Miracle", or if you happen to pick the Korean version of some of their songs.) LOL
Because WayV is the Chinese unit, but they are releasing music in Korea and promoting in Korea, not specifically in China, SM is more likely to produce their songs in English. Hence, why several of WayV's previous songs are English songs, because -- due to the pandemic, political issues, Lucas being on hiatus, etc. -- they aren't promoting as a group in China right now. I think it helps SM avoid any crossover issues with Korea that might make it more difficult for them to promote in China in the future.
Now you need to check out the dance practice videos for "Regular" and "Turn Back Time" and one of WayV's live performances of "Phantom" because the song and choreography is even better when you see and hear it live. (If you watch their MCountdown "Phantom" comeback stage, you will even get to hear the English version of the song.) SM Entertainment is known as the vocal powerhouse of the Kpop industry, which also happens to have some of the best dancers. And the company is known for the fact that when their artists perform live, they are even better than any of their studio recordings. So everyone always looks forward to their live performances. I think you will be even more impressed when you see it live.

Also the visuals, the randomly flying daggers attacking them all around, the two different scenarios, one polished, another in chaos, their masked personas and unmasked ones... The idol life overall, cause most suffer all these social media individuals attacks... They can also be those phantoms hiding in the dark, the anonimity of social media. They lie, accuse etc under fake personas, and others would act as spreaders and amplifiers of those lies...

phantom is based on the opera classic phantom of the opera and was made like two years ago, so it's not really about any scandal. i think it would be much more meaningfulto see it as a separate work of art and notice how they interpreted the original reference, cause it's very creative. however, it is of course needed to keep in mind how much these 6 had to go through, especially because they themselves have talked about hard their unprompted hiatus was.

With the SuperM 2023 ad at the SMTOWN New Year's concert there were SEVEN lights and Baekhyun is coming back in February from the military so we're hoping Lucas is back then and then WayV can be 7 again as well (the members always still keep their numbers with him included and have him in their photos on their phones etc. - so let's hope!) ^^

As for your interpretation for phantom.. i think it’s not too far off? Some of the members said that it’s a song about overcoming hard times and seeing about the things that happened to them it seems fitting on the theme too 🥲 i feel like they’re kinda between a rock and a hard place right now about their comeback because clearly they cameback as 6 people will talk and if they comeback with 7 people will talk too so it’s quite a tough situation right now. But am honestly really happy that they made a comeback after almost two years finally and seeing the live stages of phantom also brings me satisfaction because they seem to EMBODY the stage like.. they’ve been waiting for this and it shows in how the perform because they KILLED IT!! Their title tracks overall have that epic quality, the strings and the electrix guitars are common elements in them, you will realise if you react a bit more to them. They also have cool r&b hiphoppy songs and then beautiful slow/ballad ones
About the Phantom lyrics, apparently the boys received the demo of the song months before Lucas situation and the original plan was this comeback song to be 7 of them so I don’t really think they’re talking about Lucas. The producer himself talked about it on how long this song has been finished and so ready to be release.but yes if you analyze the lyrics they can also use that :) Hope everything will be okay soon
They do have many many ballads, check out their live videos too! There is a Kun&Xiaojun song called "Back to you" Chinese version videos and a English version Live video, and it has been included as a bonus track in their new album

I was late to the WayV party, i knew they were a subunit, but didn't set out to fully discover them until this year, but they stole my heart and are my favorite subunit. I was a little shocked at first 🤣, nobody warned me!! But I love their more mature, sexy, groovy vibe. They are so talented in their own ways. I miss Lucas, but they shouldn't have to wait for him. It's not fair them or their careers.
I had heard a rumor that originally "Regular" was going to just be a WayV song. But for some reason it was then decided to also make "Regular" in Korean and English and came out by NCT first. Has anyone else heard this rumor? Before Lucas left, Lucas was responsible for rapping/singing in a lower register. For "Phantom" the members (especially Yang Yang, Hendery and Win Win) stated that they focused on their lower registers. I think that they are trying to fill the vocal register previously filled by Lucas seems to add further support that Lucas is not coming back, and the group is adjusting for his permanent absence. ; (

Regular was supposedly meant to be wayv’s debut song but their unit debut was delayed and at the same time 127 was set to tour in America and they probably ended up giving 127 the kr eng versions so they could promote it during their US trip and since regular is a type of song that would garner high appeal in the western world. I personally like wayv’s MV concept for regular waaaay more than the 127 mv’s tbh 😭
I think it’s just that-rumour. I think Regular was always meant to promote in the western market with the Latin and trap influences. I’m almost certain WayV performed Regular to say “yes, we are NCT” at a time when they couldn’t say it directly.
Lucas didn't leave, he's still part of WayV, just absent from this comeback (so far). let's see about the future, but in order to "full the vocal register" of Lucas they'd need to add someone new. as much as they're great none of them have the deep, full and raspy tone Lucas has.
@@drenkard sure but since nothing’s confirmed I’d like to give SM the benefit of the doubt and think they at least planned ONE good thing for wayv just this one time 😪 they didn’t deserve to debut with a song that already existed just to prove they were part of the NCT branding (which wasn’t too clear either way bc SM still excluded wayv from a lot of stuff they weren’t even on the SM website til end 2020).

WayV turn back time have storyline and it on their individual teasers
WayV's Regular was supposed to come out before 127, but their debut was delayed due to the Chinese government throwing a bunch of hurdles at SM.
Regular has three versions though, each telling a different story... Korean version is the Reality, working hard to achieve ones dreams and goals. English version is the Dream, what they imagine obtaining all the success and fame they've dreamt about would be like, which is why it sounds so bragadocious. Whereas WayV's version is much more philosophical about all of it.
With having to drop the NCT moniker and everything else SM had to do in order to create the appearance of separation just so they could promote in China, I really think the intention of having them start with a song that'd be shared between units, was SM's way of declaring them still every bit a part of NCT. Had they been able to, they would have been called NCT Vision... as it stands though, WayV is an acronym for We Are Your Vision.
Phantom felt reminiscent of Ten’s “Birthday” tbh

Where are you getting this info that Regular was originally for WayV? Yes, they owned this version, but I’m pretty sure they did it to say “yes, we are NCT” when they couldn’t say it outright.
Mark and Taeyong literally have writing credits on Regular so how was it for WayV. They killed their version but let’s be honest.

for me wayV concept within NCT's is abt time control and time travel in order to set things right again!!! u can see in their song moon walk the earth is up to destructions and the last this in the MV is wayv stopping the clock to prevent the destruction of earth (and in my opinion it has a connection to EXO's obsession where we see the earth on fire??) the there is turn back time where they go back to the past to prevent it and they r held captive while trying to do their mission, and at the end the WayV building in the neo city that is in chaos (i relate it too to EXO with the pills and experiment like facility) the kick back came after kick it of 127 so .... is it that they r resetting time and like events repeat but differently since they tried to change it ? and now i believe that Phantom is about figuring out that there are ppl pulling out the strains and that some of em are controlled ??
not sure this is my conclusion abt it hhhh WayV is my fav unit and i feel like they had the most consistent story line out of the 3 units i might be over thinking it but their MVs !!

17:57 if you are looking for a "cuter" song from them I highly recommend Dream Launch!!!! it is one of their older releases (I believe it was a pre=release to their first comeback/proper debut titled Takeoff) but it definitely shows off a different, softer side of these boys, and personally it was the song that made me stan so maybe I'm a little biased..... it is usually overlooked in a lot of reaction videos but I promise that it is worth it! and the storyline of the mv is awesome

Phantom does have a definite Phantom of the Opera theme but many of us do see some references to THE situation. Even within the fandom there are widely varying opinions about Lucas. Personally, I would like to see Lucas back but regardless I think SM is negligent in not giving a clear picture of what is happening with him in relationship to WayV. Because SM hasn't many won't support WayV which is a shame because this is a very talented group.

I miss Lucas so much. Phantom is incredible! WayV never misses. But Lucas should be here :( It's not right how SM is handling this. Just tell us if he's staying or going so we can come to terms with it and move on with our lives. It's that simple.
WayV is my favorite NCT unit. And Phantom is probably the best album NCT as a whole has put out all year in my opinion. But all the unknown with them right now is making it hard for me personally to truly appreciate it :(

To be honest a lot of ppl actually like the Chinese ver of a lot of songs that were to be sung by nct 127 like regular and comeback also I’ve seen a lot of comment saying that phantom was meant for Lucas more specifically the lower parts which isn’t true there was nothing that suggested that and if all of does parts were Lucas’s part then they would barely be lines left for hendrey, yangyan and winwin every one telling u that is not official but a speculation made by fans of wayv there nothing wayv or sm has said makes it official and I think yangyan, hendrey and winwin did really good with those lines it doesn’t matter if it was for Lucas or not
