I'm from Maharashtra, but my dream is to visit Manipur. Hopefully once I graduate I'll get a job that pays me enough, so I can take my mother to see the beauty of northeast India (especially Manipur, Nagaland, Arunachal and sikkim)

Manipur is the birthplace of Modern Polo! Locally known as "sagol kangjei". That ground that u mistook as a cricket ground is one of the oldest grounds where royals used to play
It is the oldest Living Polo Ground in the world.
Manipur does not end in Imphal.There are many other districts and places outside of Imphal.Manipur/kangleipak is embodied of many diverse cultures..Every hill and the valley ; every tribe , every religion is a beauty from the holistic perspective.Manipur wouldn't be how it is without the diversity.
And Imphal is but a part and the brain of the diversity.
Imphal is the oval valley and the capital of Manipur surrounded by the nine hills.
Only if it wasn't for this war , you could have experienced the diverse cultural festivals too. You could have experienced the true beauty of Kangleipak for the beauty of Manipur lies in its diversity in culture.
Due to the war , many of the beauties of imphal are included in the red zone.
But if you are exploring Imphal , let me list down SOME of the hotspots , I as manipuri would want to suggest as Must Visit
LOKTAK LAKE :- Known as the "only floating freshwater lake in the world" and the largest freshwater lake of NorthEast India.
MAIBAM LOKPA CHING(Red Hill) :- You will find memorials of JAPANESE martyrs who came to Manipur during the World War II.
CHEIRAO CHING :- The captivating hill from which you could appreciate the beauty of the valley as a whole in aerial perspective. Would recommend visiting it during the dawn hours/twilight hours/nighttime rather than the daytime.
LANGTHABAL KONUNG :- A beautiful historical site which is also a must visit.
Manipur is not what it used to be right now. But I hope , as dull it is , our state right now , you will enjoy you stay.

The unique about manipur ia the loktak lake and a sangai deer only exiist in manipur and shirui lily which are only found in manipur. Next time try not mias sangai and shirui festival its one of the big festival in manipur.

Fyi Manipur is not only for religion like Christian. There are Sanamahism, Hinduism, Muslim, etc. with different variety of rich culture, tradition and foods.
